  1. Nothing leaked with the hose, I definately did my research before taking it in. I thought it was most likely a cracked evaporator core. Turns out that is what the problem was. The dealership was able to reseal the unit, and now I am getting my car back soon. Those kind of things the amateur has a hard time checking out. If I had the knowledge, I would have probably fixed that myself on a weekend, but it turns out it is some job to remove a gs400 dash.
  2. guys (and gals) I have a questions about service fees from your past experiences. I took my car into the lexus dealership for my 120,000 mile service checkup, and needed to get a leak fixed in the car. Water is leaking onto the drivers floorboards, and after reading some forums here, I thought it would be the evaporator core. After taking it to two other places, they could not find a problem with the AC. So, I drove the three hours and took it to the lexus dealership to fix the problem. They charged me 105 dollars evaluation labor, and told me they could not find the problem (this was on monday...) today is tuesday, and they told me they think the problem is a hole in the firewall and when the water drains off the windshield it comes in through the firewall into the passengers well. So -- they told me to look into the problem more, they would have to charge me a full days labor at 900.00 to remove the dash and look at the firewall inside. 900.00 - and that does not guarantee they will fix the problem. So, I am asking you all your opinion, perhaps some of you have been in the same predicament as me. What the deal. I'm in 1000.00 for labor, and they cannot guarantee the problem is diagnosed yet. That's a crock o junk. What would you do in this situation, as I have no options but to complain to the service manager for the outrageous cost. I need the car fixed, but this seems like a lot of work for a pinhole leak in the firewall behind the AC box. On top of that, results from the 120k service indicate I need tranny fluid flushed, radiator reserve replaced, rear breaks done, and two damaged wheel studs that I need fixed. What the heck.....
  3. where in the world did you manage to get one of those with that low mileage and black on black ;) niice. May I ask, how much did you spend on that beauty?
  4. I had a problem like that with a VW, may be totally unrelated, but I tried to check diagnostic codes for hours, ran fuel cleaner, changed that spark plugs, etc. All it ended up being was a hole in one of the vaccuum lines.
  5. As far as I know they are all oem. It is a 2000 gs 3 and I've had it for roughly about 2 weeks. ← Could just be one on it's way out. i believe it like most other uses a resistance measurement to turn on the light. So if a bulb has a high resistance it can trigger the dash light. ← cool thanks!!! ← I had this problem nonstop from my previous camry... course the subwoofer didn't help any :chairshot: It was actually a grounding problem with the bulb wire. Easy enough to fix... Little screwdriver or steel wool to scrub up the contacts.
  6. You may just not have enough power going to the back wheels to notice the difference. ;)
  7. I must say, I do not have this problem, however, I think that is mighty cool of you to offer!!! Makes me feel like there really is a community here Thanks to all the awesome lex members!
  8. Thanks, what do you guys think of the eshift? ← E-shift is a toy. This is the first car I've had in 40 years that is not a stick. Just face the fact you are buying an automatic and live (and enjoy) it's benefits. I don't believe the eshift to be a toy! It works wonders when wanting instant power versus the 1 sec power ramp to an open throttle. Going 80 hold it at 3rd gear and feel the difference with hte eshift versus being in 5th and downshifting. I've also found the eshift is nice when holding the acceleration while cornering. The lexus shift lag with the traditional automatic (430) tends to jump into gear too hard when pulling out of a corner.
  9. Does the 400 have the shifting on the steeringwheel? I would love to have that. The 430 is out of my price range, but ive found some 400's for pretty cheap! so basically its just engine, suspension and HID's is the difference? Ive been leaning towards the 400 anyways, but since ive never even sat in one i should get some opinions! and GS430X6, lowenhearts are beautiful wheels! although i manage a performance shop in town here, so i'll end up buying direct :D and have been kinda leaning towards DUB "Big Homies" although i also want to try somthing different than the traditional 5 spoke design. ← The 400 has the eshift on the wheel (I have it) The 430 got rid of it for a ULEV vehicle...
  10. A third rear wheel? What... Like a wheelie bar wheel? That doesn't sound right. They can do other things to handle body flex.
  11. If it does fit on the ES all one would have to do is find the CD stacker and remove the plug and install this one via the RCA inputs. That's the easy part -- now for the more important part, does the camry come with the same pioneer deck as the lexus? If I recall I thought my mom's camry came with a premium JBL Deck, I could be mistaken though.
  12. By wire harness I meant the wire cover. Much like a bicycle break going to the pads on the tire.
  13. This happens to me in my GS as well. When backing up after releasing the break, the light comes back on. Usually just pulling the handle one more snug time releases the break. Check to see if you have sticky pads or a sticky wire. With other cars I have worked on, just some lub in the wire harness has fixed the problem (dont do this unless you know what you are doing)
  14. GuyTelefunken you are the best. I took some time today to look at my fuses, and they were both good. Being as this was a new car, they might not have worked right off the bat. I know some body work was done on the front end -- after taking off the fog lights, lo and behold the mechanic did not plug them in. ... How LAME. Some people just do not know how to do a decent job anymore in the shop. Anyway. Plugged em in, and they are working like a charm... YES!
  15. Did you leave anything on last night you might not have noticed? Aftermarket radio, etc. It sounds like a dead battery to me. Jump the car, let it sit
  16. When the money comes in, I was considering putting a DVD screen in place of the garage door opener. Has anyone made this conversion? How does the setup look, pictures :) Also, are there any kits available that will do this?
  17. Damn 1600, I pay 700 for 6 months on a 00 gs 300. WHere do you live. WHat insurance co you with. Im with geico ← I`m 19 with a perfect record and i only pay $324, for a 2000 gs400. Thank goodness. =) ← At 600/month, this isn't too bad... Especially in the LA area. If you are in the country it goes down Drastically -- Lexdia -- do you only have liability? Because at 19 I would say it's impossible to get it that low unless its under your parents name and you are driving the car (not under your name).
  18. I just noticed today my fog lights are not working. Does anyone know where the fuse is for these, I cannot seem to find it anywhere? They used to work, and now by some unknown parting of the heavens they have stopped. I doubt it was both at the same time, so I'm thinking it was a fuse. If I do have to replace them, do I have to take off the bumper shroud, etc to get to them? It's funny, they make a switch noise when I turn them on, but nothing. Help, I want my driving lights back.
  19. Damn 1600, I pay 700 for 6 months on a 00 gs 300. WHere do you live. WHat insurance co you with. Im with geico ← That is 1600 per YEAR.... Plus the gs400 has a v8 and adds a hefty bit too the cost.... I have a friend wtih a 350Z, and his payment is lower then mine because of the 6. Neway - 1600 was the almost the lowest I could find.
  20. I'm 23 with a perfect record and my insurance company wants about 1600 / yr for a 98gs4... I suppose it wouldn't increase more then a hundred or two for the other two years... BTW Only had the car for a lil over a month now, but no problems thus far
  21. Funny enough, they were on the car when I bought it :) Sweet ol' lady she was -- not sure why she bought the GS putting on tires like this, however it made a sweet deal for me. Car was well taken care of, and the first upgrade I plan on doing is getting new wheels / tires.... but for the intents and purpose of the topic, it rides smooth BTW Dont' get these for the GS or you won't be able to corner for ****
  22. Thanks for your response! I knew that Dells where cheaply done(my brother and sister have the same notebooks, but earlier revisions. I think Insp. 8200 and 8500), but I was able to get so much more performance for the money with Dell which is why I decided to go with them. I regret every minute of it too. I just kills me that I didn't go with the Powrbook. I see so many people with them, and they make MS Office for Mac, so I don't think I would have many connectivity issues, and their notebook case is made of aluminum, so I wouldn't be having all of these annoying quality issues. Great idea on the lock; I'm going to go pick one up. The first time I called Dell when my speakers went out I actually spoke to an American. He was rude, but atleast I could understand him! I love the Norton, but since Dell is so cheap, they gave me only a 3 month demo. I think that's right. I got the computer in the begining of Sep. and the trial has like 3 more days. This is rediculous. I'll see how many pop ups I get without the software, and if it's bad, I'll buy it because I haven't gotten a single one in the 3months I've had this computer. ← Hi there, You are welcome for the advice! Go ahead and bite the bullet on the Norton Internet Security, the pop ups test is not even worth it. You'll see a difference almost as soon as the demo expires. It's about $70 bucks. You were in luck to get someone who speaks English. It makes it a double whammy, when you are already frustrated, and then you get someone who can't understand your frustrations. Wish I could have talked to you before you shelled out the $3k for the Dell. I would of hands down said get the Apple. It would have cost roughly the same. Oh well, an expensive lesson, but nonetheless hindsight is always 20/20. Kensington, makes a decent lock. Take care! ← First of all Norton Internet Security is bad.... Most norton products with the exception of their antivirus are bloated and should not be put on the computer. Their internet security is nutorious for blocking out internet apps, and other sorts of software. If you want a firewall with your broadband, you should consider a dsl/cable router. It will do the same thing, except wtihout the painful configs and slowness of the computer. Adware (popups) occurs becuase of programs running on the background of your computer. It does help to run Norton internet security (NIS), but NIS will not block the adware. The best way to prevent the popups is to not use IE and stick with a browser such as firefox that does not ahve security flaws. If you use firefox and do not succomb to clicking everything in sight you should stay most adware free.
  23. Yeah something I know about :) Cars = learning, computers = knowledge... The pentium M is basically the same thing as a P3 packaged for the mobile laptop iwth a higher clockspeed then the P3 -- The P4 was designed for the desktop market and is a beast. Ie., runs hot, sucks battery power, and is less efficient. Without getting technical. The M is better in terms of battery life, and heat -- the P4 has more processing power, and shorter battery life... In terms of equivalence.... take yer pentium M and multiply it by 1.5 and this will give you P4 equivalence.
