Gs300 Cd Changer Compatability
TexasComputerMan replied to Lex3486's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
I have an es300 cd changer in my 92 sc400. It has been working great for a year now. It does have to be mounted differently but if you get it in, you will like it. Here is on on ebay now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/92-96-LEXUS...1QQcmdZViewItem :P ;) -
Turbonado! Has Anyone Ever Used This Product
TexasComputerMan replied to Blackstarr777's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
My mechanic says that he has taken out 20 or thirty of these things and in every case the car runs better and gets at least as good gas mileage. Don't waste your monety. -
After the trade in, some cash and I financed $7500 (Yes, seven thousand, five hundred dollars) I spend just a hair over $30,000. It is so good a deal that I was worried about it, so I did a car fax on it when I got home and there are no unusual entries. I was Very lucky. THe color that I posted - Mica OLive Metallac is the color that came up on the car when I registered it on the Lexus site. Remember that this is a 2004, not a 2006 model. Often the same color has a name change when the year changes. Yes, you are right. The title is wrong. It is a 2004 model. I haven't figured out how to edit the title.

THe color, according to Lexus is Olive Mica Metallic

What a car. I really am stunned to see just how good this car is. It is a 2004 LS430. It is the basic model but even so, it is incredible. So many built in options that I am still discovering something new each time I drive it. (I haver had it about 1 month) THe color is Mica (Dark Green) Here are some Pics: Well, Phooey!@ THis system will not allow me to post any pics. I will post them on another site and put a link in. Here is a link to see my LS430: http://www.showoffyourcar.com/galleries.asp?carid=2240

I just won an EBAY bid for '00 Lexus RX300 Sun Visor Visors Set w/Homelink'. It is $32.00 - shipped. I intend to take the Homelink system from the RX300 visor and mount it in my 1992 SC400 visor. I will post some pictures when the project is done. I priced the Lexus Visor with Homelink and they want $249.00 or so. Way too much. I have already dwnloaded the reprogramming instructions from the Homelink web site.

Help Needeed - Silent Radio

I am not sure that my info will help. I have a 1992 SC400. I know that many of the parts that SC400 have are shared with the LS400. If so, look at this: http://carstereohelp.com/repairDoItYoursel...usRepairVol.htm It shows a plug under the rear seat behind the drivers seat. That plug is for a telephone. It is there in the SC400 even if you do not have a phone. Any way, if the LS400 has that same plug, and it get's wet, it will mute all of your speakers. Everything looks like it is working, but no sound. Perhaps, this is only for the SC400, but drying and waterproofing that plug is a cheap fix. -
I have had my SC400 for a year now and early on I had a water problem that affected the Amp. Mine was shorted out and I had to replace it. When I had it out, I saw that a drain hose from the top of the car is routed down by the amp. If it is out of it's hole, it will spray water in that compartrment, shorting out the amp. I put mine back in place and glued it down with some silicon 'stuff'. Also, I drilled a couple of holes in the bottom of that compartment at the lowest point just to let out any water that might get back in there. But, another potential problem is if you are getting water in the cabin. Just behind the drivers seat, under the rear seat are a couple of electrical plugs. One of them is for a telephone that you may or may not have. If that plug gets wet, it mutes you whole system and acts like the amp is out. Go here to see pictures: http://carstereohelp.com/repairDoItYoursel...usRepairVol.htm My interior leak problem stemmed from a drivers side door hinge that was worn out and did not let the door seat properly. Whenever it rained, water got into the cabin and shorted out that plug. I hope that this helps

I have a 1992 SC400 and my owner's manual says to use 91 octane. Here in N. Texas, most gas stations sell 93 octane. I have a habit of always filling up when my tank is 1/2 empty/full. Just a habit I developed years ago. Any way, I alternate putting in 93 octane or 89 octane. Since this is a blend, I am always running 91 octane. I have been doing this for a year and it is working well.

Nakamichi 12 Disk Changer Not Loading
TexasComputerMan replied to Nelson Munts's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
I read at a different Lexus forum that an ES300, trunk mounted cd-changer is plug compatible for my NAK system. I found one at a local mom & pop salvage yard and took my sc400 out there and tried the ES300 unit. It is plug compatible and works perfectly. My car is a 1992 SC400. The ES300 unit has to be a pre-1997 unit. This cd changer is only a 6 cd unit, but that is OK with me. The NAK head unit recognises it and works well. The only problem is how to mount it in the trunk. My buddy, a mechanic, used the original brackets (He bent them artound) and mounted the 6 cd-changer sideways. I am very pleased with this solution. The word is that the ES300 cd-changer is much better designed than the original 12 cd Nak system It has now been in my car for nearly a year and is working great. I would look on EBAY for a 1993 - 1996 ES300 - 6-cd changer. Mine was $150.00 and was the best $150.00 that I have ever spent. TexasComputerMan (Arlington, Texas) -

Tune Up Price, What Do You Think?
TexasComputerMan replied to Moony400's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Three months ago, I did a full tune up, plus, also. All of the parts are from Lexus. Here are my costs: Water Pump/Timing Belt/V-Belt/Cam Seals/Link assembly = $450.00 Gas Filter/End Links = $202.94 Spark Plug wires/spark plugs = $174.52 Timing belt Tensioner/Ignition rotors/Distributer caps & labor = $722.52 --------- total = $1549.11 You probably can save some of this by buying the [atrs from on-line vendors. I just wanted to get it all done. did you do the install on any of these? I did none of the installs. I have a close friend who is a mechanic. He did all of the work -

I recently had an accident that required replacing the front bumper and repainting it. I just hate having to drill two holes in the new bumper to mount the front license plate. THe Body shop that did the work came up with a better solution. They had me go to a local autoparts store and buy an aftermarket (metal) license plate bracket. Then they made a couple of "L" brackets that allowed them to mount the plate using the existing holes inside on the bumper itsself. I know that this is not a good description. I will post a couple of pics to let you see how they did it.

If you can pull the cluster yourself then you can paint them yourself in less than 15 minutes, Why send it out? ← Actually, you are right. My buddy, who is a mechanic and has done all of the repairs on my car, says that we can do it our selves. Probably a week from this coming Saturday. I am on a trip this weekend. I will post some pics when it is done.

IF the high pressure power steering hose is leaking, look in your area for a hydralic hose repair facility. They can fix those things for a great price. They did mine for $50.00. Be sure that the High pressure power steering hos is in fact leaking. It sounds like your dealer may be going overboard. B-T-W, my high pressuer steering hose was 14 years old before it needed replacing.

well, my Temperatuer gauge needle just died, so I decided to send it to Lextech. But I sent an email asking this question. "If I buy the ultra-white background for $199.00, does that include the blue needles?" That was my question. The answer was "all products are on the web site". That did not even come close to answering my question. So I sent another email trying again to get an answer and they have ignored the question for two days. I give up. I have found a place here in the DFW area that will paint the needles either flourescent red or orange. I am going to try that first. THe Lextech solution seems to be the best, but I just do not like the attitude that I got in the email.

Well, I never thought about it before, but it looks as if Lexus changed the placement of the SC300/SC400 badge in 1997. On the 1996 and before the SC300/SC400 badge is below the Lexus 'L' and between the tail lights. On the 1997 and after, the SC300/SC400 badge is directly across from the Lexus 'L' and above thr right tail light. see the pics

I hesitated to reply to this thread because it seemed like you wanted to replace your steering wheel. But other replys talk about alternatives. So, my alternative is a wheelskin. Here are a couple of pics to show you the result. Remember, this is a $50.00 part. Also, I am including a pic of the interior so that you can see why I chose this two toned wheel skin. BTW, it looks and feels like real leather because it is real leather.

I searched this subject and the last time it was discussed was back in 2004. I have a 1992 Lexus SC400 and I ordered a set of A/C cabin filters. It has been a real problem getting them installed. Yes, the cover et al is just as described, but I was unable to get the two filters to link together when they were placed into the slots provided. Well, it turns out that even though the slots/area is there for filters, Lexus did not put filters in until 1996 or 1997. The place in our earlier cars is just a 'hair' smaller then required to get both filters in. I did make it work though. What I did was to shave off the guides on either side of the filters. (Those places that are supposed to link together.) They both are in now and seem to be working just fine.

Hummmmmmm! I just got my owner's manual out to see what it says about octane usage in my SC400. I have a 1992 SC400. On page 172 of the owner's manual it says: 'Select premium unleaded gasoline with a Research Octane Number of 96 (Octane rating 91) or higher. ' Which do I use when looking at the gas pump??? I think it is the Octane Rating, but I am not sure.

I always fill my tank up at 1/2 empty. One fill up is at 93 octane & the next is at 89 octane. Average = 91 octane, just what my owners manual says to use.
