  1. I'd give the new Infiniti M a tumble before I decided on a new car. I had a G35 for a while and it was a sports car that happened to have 4 doors and a decent trunk. In comparison, the GS is a big, heavy 4 door sedan with a much more comfortable, luxurious ride and sporting ambitions that don't quite make it. There is nothing wrong with that - notice I have the GS now - they're just different approaches to the same basic concept of a "sports sedan." The deciding factor might be price of course, and the dealers. I find Lexus dealers to be very pretentious and arrogant with not much real substance to back it up compared to the more down-to-earth Infiniti dealers. Just as a ringer, the new Chrysler 300M seems like a nice car and a good value, but I'd wait a while to see how they hold up, especially with the fancy shut-down-four-cylinders-when-you-don't-need-them V8. Anyone remember Cadillac's debacle a few years ago?
  2. Bottom line...for all the white shirts and ties and all the other pretentious trappings, Lexus dealers are just car dealers like any of them. Six months ago, all these guys were at the Chevy dealer down the street.
  3. To follow up on a previous post - the dealer put new tires on my car last week. They are 225/55 -16 Goodyear Eagle GT+4 "V" rated. My previous tires were standard 215/60 - 16, so these are a little lower profile. I believe these were optional on the GS300 and standard on the GS430. They seem like pretty good tires, they improved the handling, ride and noise, but all I have to compare them with on this car were the "S" tires it came with, so anything would seem nice LOL!
  4. Army- I've never seen a tire like that. If the tire wore more on the outside, I would say the alignment was off, but in the photo it appears that the tread is at the same depth all across the suface. It looks like the tire seperated down the middle since one whole side is higher than the other. Am I seeing this right? Mity- I called Lexus last Friday. They will speak to the dealer and get back to me in a couple of working days.
  5. I've used a steam cleaner before on cars other than my Lexus, and, as it turns out, have been very lucky that the whole liner didn't sag and go to hell. This was before I knew any better. Maybe the pros can do it and get away with it, but for us amateurs... I recently did mine with a Woolite product called Oxy Deep that is actually made for carpets (there are other "oxy" products available - I just knew and trusted Woolite). I sprayed it on, let it sit for a few minutes, gently wiped it with a damp sponge, and vacuumed it when it was dry. Came out clean and smelling fresh, with no damage.
  6. A point well taken Mity. I had an '88 Taurus and its handling was downright frightening, especially on sweeping curves.
  7. Check this out...I recently purchased a "Certified" GS 300. I didn't check out the tires too much except to see that they were new. After a few miles of driving, I noticed that they were loud! It turns out the dealer had put Bridgestone Insignia SEs on the car - S rated tires are about the cheapest you can get! I tried to work with the dealer - they offered me a car wash. Big Deal! I was going to put new tires on myself and consequently have been following this thread, but I decided to call Lexus Customer Care today and they are going to talk with the dealer and let me know what can be done next week. Lexus agrees the tires should be "V" rated. I'll let you know if they step up to the plate and put new tires on and what kind they are. Meanwhile, I have been researching tires and the Yoko AVIDs sound good. They come in H and V ratings. I'm not sure of the cost difference, but I wonder how they differ in ride, quietness, grip etc. My only experience with Yokohamas has been with 50 series A008s on an RX-7. They were really grippy initially, like riding on rails, but got more slippery as they wore. Any other opinions on the AVIDs?
