A mechanic friend of mine is teaching me how to install brake pads on my 97 LX450 next week, and I want to have all of the parts ready for him. So I just bought replacement OEM front/rear brake pads from cruiserparts.net, and I have a FSM for a 97 Land Cruiser.
That being said, according to the FSM, "When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads."
I notice from the postings that brake pad replacement is a 1/4 - 1/2 banana (depending on who's posting you read, and not quite sure what the banana means) job, but there is no mention of the anti-squeal shims.
Do I really have to replace the anti-squeal shims? Thoughts?
Thanks,
Jim.
