  1. I have a set of 2001 LS430 wheels 16 inch with 225/55/16 and it rode great. I don't know what the 15's ride like cause they were in the trunk. The 18's however don't do too bad until you hit a bump then it's a little more pronounced but not unbearable or dangerous.
  2. We went with 18's and I don't think it looks too bad. It is all personal taste. I personally wouldn't go much bigger than 18's but I'm sure there are plenty people out there that would disagree. Watch your offset on the first gen cars. We went 35 up front and 30 in the rear and the fronts look nice and flush but the rears stick out too far but the wheel my son wanted only came in a 30 with the 9.5 wide wheel. I told him we should do the 8.5 and use a small spacer but I'm old, he's young and I don't know anything LOL. Rim it up how you like it, looking forward to the pictures.
  3. He is a Subaru fan like most teens. He just likes the older Japanese stuff. I was going to get him a 240sx but you cannot find one that has not been thru the ringer. We will see how this one goes. He likes the VIP look but I won't let him do that to a daily driver.
  4. Does not bother me bits big and heavy which means safe. And the insurance is pretty reasonable. I personally don't care for the SC cars myself and neither did my son.
  5. Solved. Worried at first but we bit the bullet and put the tires on them and bolted them up. The fronts fit perfect. No rubbing or hitting. Out back is a different story. I told my son the tire is too big but with a little camber and rolling the quarters it should be alright. If not then a smaller tire will be in order. I was going to order another pair of 18x8.5's for the rear but we'd never sell the 9.5's so we'll have to work with them. The only other thing we can do is go down to a 255/40/18 in the rear and that should clear it no problem. The 275/40's are just too tall. Anyway, some won't like it, I think it looks good and since the car is going to be for my son I think he'll have one of the more unique cars there. The wheel design is nice and it looks great rolling too. Enjoy the journey. Rears compared to the ones on it. 225/55/16 to 275/40/18 Fronts compared 225/55/16 to 245/40/18 All mounted up Waiting for the new shoes Front Rear Side Suspension hadn't settled yet
  6. To tell you the truth, I don't know. I think the advertised offset is wrong. Several people have told me that with the offset I had there is no way they should have stuck out that far. I agree due to all the pictures I've seen.
  7. That is not going to happen. I'm not into the stretched tire, cambered look. We just wanted to upgrade it and put a little more rubber under there. I think the design of this wheel is just for that. Aspec wheel has been awesome to work with on this. I've already picked out another wheel and have boxed those up ready to send them back. I was just shocked at the fitment and thought something was up with the car seeing that I researched several vehicles to get the offset and tire combo that I went with.
  8. I posted this over in the LS400 section and didn't think to post it here. I have a issue with a wheel combo I bought. It is not fitting right. According to the measurements they are 18x8.5 +35 up front and 18x9.5 +30 for the rear. After looking at several LS's with those similar numbers I chose this set up. So today I take the wheels out and test fit them on the car and get this: In the rear it is worse. Sticks out almost 1.75 inches. This is about a inch. I've measured offset and the width. I don't know if it is something about the hub or the rotor on my car (PO said something about brembo rotors up front but with some of the stuff I found that could have just been talk). I don't want to pull the fenders, I don't want to camber the car. It already has H&R springs on it that gives it a nice rake. I guess it could just be the design of the rim and I just need to throw the tires on them. And ideas what could be going on?
  9. So I was cruising google and some threads on other forums and came up with the right wheel size, offset and tire size for our '92 LS400. The car has the standard H&R springs on it so it has a nice rake to it. We decided on a 18x8.5 +35 for up front and 18x9.5 +30 for the rear. We got 245/40 for the front and 275/40 in the rear. We test fitted the wheels today and ran into this Not the look we were going for. Other cars I've seen with this same wheel size and tire combo sit just about flush with the fender. I forgot to snap photos of the rear but I figured since the suspension was unloaded I was not getting a accurate look so I didn't worry about it. I got the bright idea to put a jackstand under the control arm and let the weight of the car down to get the fronts to come down and that is what you see in the picture. It is a new wheel from avid1 It is really sharp wheel and I really like the design but I'm not going for the poked out look. And if I had the pads shaved it would push the fronts into the spindle. They measure right in the rear for the offset, going to do the calcs for the fronts in a little while. I just wonder if it is the design of the wheel and the front surface that throwing things off. Or the fact I don't have the car down level. Has anyone run into this issue before where the specs on the wheel was off or something on the car was wrong? They were not bolted down but they were seated.
  10. I read that article and will be trying that out this weekend. The car is a third car that sits in the garage so I can afford to do that. I can manipulate the rpms with that no problem but I know it is not right. I keep reading different things about where the rpm's are supposed to be. I hear that in park normal it should be around 800 to 850, then I read that it is supposed to at 600-650. But I don't see what it is supposed to be in drive at idle. Right now mine likes 400, a little lower when warm in gear at idle.
  11. No problem. I've been hunting my issue for a couple weeks now. Went out and installed the new intake hose and no change. I played with the TPS and got it to idle up to 800 in park but as soon as you pull it down to drive or reverse it goes straight down to 400. I'm wondering if it is a transmission issue putting a load on the motor.
  12. You have two lines to that valve. Clamp them both. I did the bypass on mine but that didn't fix my hesitation and misfire at 55-60 mph. I did have a vacuum leak from the intake box flex hose and a split hose from the iac to the intake box that cleared up the off idle hesitation.
  13. The caps and rotors have been changed. I'm sure the coils have been changed out too. The car does not run rough. It does not idle rough, just in that 55-60 mph range does it shudder. I'm almost sure that the cluster is bad so the rpm's it shows are irrelevant. I'm going to try out the tps first, those are cheap.
  14. Have been back at it. Yesterday the computer came back and the used IAC that I bought came in. I repaired the pigtail for the IAC and put everything back together. Sadly the two problems still were present. I poked around and found that the rubber intake tube from the air meter to the intake was junk. I sealed it up and the idle got better but not the 600 or so idle in gear that it should be. The off the line hesitation was gone though. The other thing was the surge/shutter or miss that it has at 55 to 60 mph. The rpm's jump up and down in that range. I think the tach on the car is off because at 60 mph it is saying I'm only turning 1k and that cannot be right. If I rev the motor in park to 800 rpms the car is revving to much. I bought a rpm tester so I will try that. People have said that the trans mount can be a issue and others have said it could be the TPS. I'm going to hunt for more vacuum leaks but I think I'm going to measure the true rpm's and then swap out the TPS and adjust and see what happens. The CEL is not on, but I've only put on 12 miles since putting the computer back in. My wife and son have it out today and will put on a bunch of miles so I'll check for codes then when they get back. The car idles so smooth and runs great for me to think that their is a major problem. I may resort to taking it to a customer of mine that is a independent Lexus service shop.
  15. It's not perfect but nice. Once it cools down I'm going to clay bar it, compound, polish and wax it bit has a good shine now but it's not smooth. It was owned by a old guy in Daytona Beach and garaged its whole life so that really preserved it and the interior.
