I get nervous running my car in the rain (wich is very rare). Even though it can handle it - at 3k rpm if boost hits, the car tosses her butt all over the place. I try to lay off the throttle in the rain but sometimes even at quarter throttle - boost will build. It's totally controllable for me, but it does take you by surprise. Of course that is with a very large amount of horsepower on tap and the factory version does just fine in the rain. I won't drive her in the snow. I spun the 93 in the snow the one time I drove it over the white stuff. Finiky clutch = not good for snow. Of course the 400 and 430 are auto and probably have trac - so with snow tires and a good driver - No problem eh?

Can You Tell Me Everything I Need For A Tune Up?
AWJ replied to 1995SC4double0's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
You have 2 distributors on your SC400. What you will need depends on wether or not the full and proper 80,000 mile maintenance was done. If so, then you don't need much. I'd recommend new plugs, inspection of wires, dist. rotor and cap, oil change, air filter change, you could do the fuel filter, tranny fluid and diff service - inspection of belts, alignment, suspension, tires and anything else you want to check. -
It is possible that the contacts across the starter solenoid are worn. But at such a low mileage and such a new vehicle, I would be very suprised to see that. When you say the car does not start, does it turn over or do hear nothing - or do you hear a click? How long do you hold the key forward when you start the car? What kind of fuel have you been running? Is your air filter clean? An auto car will only start in park or nuetral and sometimes the foot must be on the brake as well. Not sure about those 430's. Perhaps the anti-theft function has been activated? Try the LS forums as well in case someone else has a similar experience. Good luck.

How long are you going between oil changes? What kind of oil are you running? What kind of gas are you running? From consulting the diagram it looks like the 1uz filter is located on the front driver side of the engine just askew and lower right of the serpentine belt if you are facing the car. It could be removed from underneath but the panel will need to come out. I remove my filters from the top on the SC3. I like Fram oil filters. Toyota OEM filters are very good. I also like to run a 5/30 synthetic.

I guess I'm just a one off - I like the 92 to 95 design better.

So it appears we have lost all data since september due to one of those unfortunate computer screw ups that I'm sure most of us are familiar with. Apologies to members who have been lost. Please register again and continue to participate. We do love having you guys here. We will be doing work to restore the lost infromation. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Thanks to the admin for quick action - hang in there guys, there is a lot of work to be done. Let me know what I may do to assist.

What happened?

I wouldn't drive it in the snow if that is what you are asking. Then again, it's hard to find a rear wheel drive car that does well in the snow. Driving skill and tires are the ultimate factor though.

Yes. Haven't done it though. Not sure if any bolts or mounts will need modification or changing.

I have my eye on s13's for a while now. I don't want the sr though - I can't afford it anyways. A sc300 in good shape with a good driver will run mid to high 15, low 16? The factory spec time can be found in our faq (it needs a little updating for dead links ) Good luck getting a TT set-up in there. You'll need to hack up the TT manifold (if that's even possible as tight as it is) and go standalone or get TT heads and ecu with a plethora of wiring and mechanical issues I don't care to get into. It would be a lot of talented work for little gain. No SC300 came with an LSD (debated). TRD offers a unit, I think KAAZ does - then there is the stock TT LSD. This is not an easy job either I've heard. There is a thread on the motor differences. They are very similar actually. 8.5:1 on the turbo motor vs. 10:1 on the NA. The rods are excellent (no ring issue like those KA's either) - the stock NA motor will take the abuse and beg for more with the right tuning. The NA motor does not have squirter, the TT does. There is a thread somewhere. Check our FAQ for links. Angel did a good write up, as well as Scott - and more.

My 18*10's with 265/35's rub like a b*tch over dips and sharp turns in the back outer fender with stock suspension. In fact, I thought the ride height looked kick !Removed! with the stock suspension. Although I'm starting to think my suspension is wore out. Time for some Tein's.

And my answer is boost. ;)

The car was bought already built from a second owner. The sale price reflected the total worth of the vehicle plus the additional worth of the modifications. I was going to install a PFNY set-up on a previous SC but never got around to it. It would take me 1 month to get a set-up installed and running with my current workload. Most shops will quote by the hour and tell the customer that the car will be finished when it is finished. Never can tell what will come up. The previous owner shredded a pulley, blew a battery, and fried a clutch. Since I've had it, the car shows signs of a problematic power steering pump, a water pump slow leak, and lately it is not boosting correctly due to a pressure line leak on the boost controller (I suspect - unless there is a full on boost leak somewhere). I still need to investigate more. Overall, total drivability is excellent, power is awesome, and the car can not be beat. Expect around 5,000$ for parts - 65 to 80$ and hour for labor. That is for a basic, turn key set-up.

So maybe they are 4". Honestly, I don't give a hoot about the sound system. Typically, most cars run sixers or 6*9 in the rear deck. So I'm surprised they are not. But I didn't go look or even consult the manual - so there you have it. Honestly, how hard is it to pull the panel in the trunk and take a tap measure to it? Or do a search? ... Oh yea, they are 4 inches?... that's pretty damn small. Carry on...

I can't scan the dyno now, but the one I've got shows 330hp and 367 tq. I have no track times. <_< Maybe this week we will get out to run it.

Do Not Purchase Polk Audio Gxr4 4" Speakers!
AWJ replied to redsully's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Hi Red, welcome to the club. Sorry about the experience. Check out our audio/video forum for more of this type discussion and feedback. -
(1)10 and (2)6 inches.

You will have to locate the factory service manuals. My scanner is busted. It is just a bleed tube, vented back. Take it to a competent mechanic and tell them your trouble.

Welcome to the club guys. The stock head unit can be found on e-bay and around at places like taprecycling.com. Enjoy those sweet new rides.

Speed Seekers Invites You To Road America

That looks like a killer time. I can't make that one, but keep us posted of any more. I'll definitely make it out sometime in the future. Nice work! -
Yea, it will be clipped. Strategic pulling will be necessary. Good luck. Try not to break anything. There is usually 1 or two that break though . If you are you really careful, you may get lucky and come out with no broken tabs. :magic:

You need anti-squeal grease to apply to the shims as well. Some squeak is "normal".

This isn't the best but shows it:

Definitely... At least that is what they say... I still want to get these: Daizen components I have no affiliation with TMEngineering.
