  1. I have a 2000 GS300. I recently had a good independant shop drop the pan, clean the filter, and refill ATF. The leak does not happen on level ground. But when I back the car out of the garage and shut the car off with the front end inclined a little higher than the rear, several drops of what I think is AFT drip onto my driveway. I'm thinking (hoping) that maybe the shop overfilled the tranny slightly and the ATF is running out the back of the trans. I believe the trans is checked with the dipstick, engine running and warm....is this correct? Any help/advice from the experts out there would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Pete H. Lake Forest, Calif.
  2. James, I change the oil/oil filter every 3,000 miles, change the air and cabin filters before the manual recommends, and keep all fluids topped up. All belts/hoses look OK. On my second set of brakes. Spark plugs are originals. I live in Southern California.....temperate climate. Driving is mix of surface streets and freeway (mostly surface streets). Thanks for your reply. Pete H.
  3. I have a low milage 2000 GS 300 (45,000 miles) that is going to be due for a complete check up/tune very soon. I have several questions and I haven't been able to find the answers. Perhaps some kind soul out there could enlighten me: 1) Coolant will have to be changed....you think it's necessary to replace the thermostat? 2) Should the fuel filter be replaced? I think the thing is located in the fuel tank....if so, this sounds like an expensive proposition. 3) Does transmission pan need to be dropped and tranny fluid/filter replaced? Anything else that is an important maintainance item for my particular Lexus? Thanks for any help ypu can give. Incidentally, I have owned many cars over the years but this one has been by far the best. Absolutely NOTHING has gone wrong. A truely great automobile.
  4. Sorry to bother you but how do I change my user name? Thanks very much.
  5. They say there are no stupid questions. I'm afraid this one is. I want to change a taillight bulb in my 2000 GS300. But in order to get at the bulb I have to first remove the inside fuzzy fabric covered cover. In order to do THIS I must remove the plastic rivets which hold the cover in place. The rivets are the problem. Just how do you remove and reinstall them without breaking? I did manage to pull (and break) one using brute strength. Please....someone help before the cops give me a ticket. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  6. The Wix filter people tell me the fuel filter for my 2000 GS 300 is in the fuel tank. Can this be true and if so, should it be routinely changed? Thanks for any help from the forum experts.
  7. I have a 2000 GS300. Wonderful car! But I have a problem filling the fuel tank. Whenever I try to pump gas into the tank (particularly after driving some distance), the nozzle keeps shutting off. Even pumping gas slowly doesn't seem to work. The nozzle clicks off after about 2 seconds. Needless to say, fueling the car has become a laborious process. I live in California where the gas stations use vapor recovery nozzles (big black sleeve over the fill pipe enclosing the mouth of the car's filler hole). I have tried every nozzle position imaginable and every delivery speed on the nozzle "trigger"...all to no avail. Anybody (California members?) had this same problem? Anyone know about a Lexus Tech Service Bulletin which might explain the cause? Any help would be much appreciated.
  8. Thanks for the replys. I should have mentioned that 91 octane is the highest octane we can get in my part of SoCal. I was hoping I could save a few bucks by going to a lower octane.
  9. I'm new here, so I expect that this has been covered before. But.... I have a 2000 GS 300 and live in Southern California. Manual specifies 91 octane gas. Will running the car 0n 87 or 89 octane hurt the car? Thanks for any help you can give.
  10. Thanks to everyone for the advice. I have tried different gas stations and have maneuvered the nozzle in every way possible.....but most of the time the nozzle shuts off 1-2 seconds after pumping begins. Note that here in Calif., the pumps use a vapor recovery system (big black rubber boot over the nozzle itself that seals with the top of the filler pipe). Maybe that has something to do with the problem.
  11. I am having trouble fueling my 2000 GS300. The pump nozzle clicks off immediately after begining to gas up....and keeps clicking off every time I squeeze the pump handle. Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks for any help you can give.
