  1. Finding a SC300 w/ a manual transmission? A bit difficult. Not hard...just a bit difficult and takes time. Finding all of the above AND w/ less than 100,000 miles? This makes it much harder as you have to realize that the first SC300 started in '92. And most of the manuals that I've seen on Autotrader tend to be from 92 - 95. We're talking 10 year old cars here. I wouldn't let the mileage be a limiting factor, as the engine itself is pretty reliable. I bought my 93 early this year w/ 114,000 miles and it runs strong.
  2. Well...the first thing I would check would be the air flow sensor near the intake. Next, I would check the throttle cable and ensure that the cable moves freely w/o restriction. From there...check the throttle body to ensure that throttle plate opens freely. While you're at it...spray some throttle body cleaner into the plate to get rid of the carbon buildup. Wipe off what you can reach. Don't worry about the stuff you can't reach,...as it will burn off anyway. (Just spray a bit of the stuff...you don't need to spray too much). When you start the car (due to the throttle body cleaner)...your car may run like crap intially...as it is trying to get rid of the cleaner. Don't worry...but start the car and give it a little gas to help get rid of the cleaner. See if the problem stays. I would also recommend changing out the tranny fluid (and replacing the transmission filter) if you had not already done so.
  3. Okay...so a piece of wood under the oil pan huh? (Obviously to help distribute the load). Didn't think the oil pan was that strong. For SR20DETs...the oil pan usually gets crushed...that is why I didn't think jacking up from the oil pan was a good idea. Good to know... jzz30 I found your post in this thread. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...l=engine++mount Seems I need a 14mm universal joint and some extensions to remove the engine mount huh?
  4. Well...I did find a thread where the owner had jacked up the motor...but WHERE do I jack the motor up from?
  5. I would like to replace my engine mounts. My question is...can I essentially jack up the motor from the bottom and raise it high enough to change out the engine mounts (much like replacing engine mounts for 240sx's)? If at all possible, I would like to do this, so as to avoid paying someone to do this. Which exact location would be ideal to jack the motor up from...so as to not damage it? I have a jack and jack stands... Or do I need an engine hoist? Just as a note, I own a SC300. Thanks... Dom
  6. I own a 92 SC300 5-speed. I, too...have experienced what you are describing...except on a much smaller scale. I notice that when I first warm up the car and proceed to drive out of my driveway, the first time I step on the brakes...the fan will somewhat lose a bit of power for a split second. Then, it will come back on w/ no problems at all. I haven't been too picky about it, as I don't have the time to diagnose the problem. I'll try and diagnose it this weekend. While I was doing an oil change this weekend...(from under the car) I did notice a ground wire that is approximately below the oil filter area. It was caked w/ dirt and grime...so I just cleaned it off. I haven't yet given my car a thorough cleaning (as I'm pretty obsessed w/ stuff like this)...but plan to do so shortly. I don't know if cleaning this wire was beneficial...as I wasn't thinking about it...but thought I would mention as it is directly below the oil filter and prone to getting dirty. Will give the car a good cleaning soon (hopefully this weekend) and will let you know of the results. Dom
  7. Can someone post the fluid capacities for all of the fluids found in a SC300? (I've searched and my results don't show specific fluid quantities...) The reason being is when I purchased my car...it didn't have an owner's manual. I called Lexus corporate customer service, and they couldn't provide me w/ a copy of the owner's manual (they are now out of print)...they could only fax me a page from their in-house copy. And the local lexus dealer (service technician) was very very vague about everything. Ex: How much transmission fluid do I need? Answer: Just fill it until it comes out of the hole. (Duh! But I need to know how much fluid to buy first! Just so that I don't have to return the extra stuff later...) Motor Oil: "x" quarts (w/o oil filter) Motor Oil: "x" quarts (w/ oil filter) Brake Fluid: Power Steering Fluid (use ATF): Clutch Fluid: Automatic transmission: Manual transmission (use 75-90): Windshield wiper fluid: Differential: Coolant: 1 gallon of Toyota red, plus 1 gallon of distilled I think that covers it...but not sure if I missed any others. Feel free to add/edit as necessary if I made any mistakes. BTW....while we're at it. What is the amount of torque needed for the lugnuts? I need to do a brake job pretty soon... Thanks.
  8. Thanks for the quick replies thus far. As far as Ebay is concerned...I'm leary about using Ebay as there are tons of horror stories. Wrong parts sent/received. No parts at all. No tracking provided, low/inferior quality parts, etc. As far as the Lextasy rotors...I only need the rears (for now)...and would like some more feedback on these. Any cracking? How long have you had them on the vehicle? The front rotors do the majority of the "stopping" anyway...so since I need the rears...it really doesn't matter to me whether they are cross drilled/slotted or full face rotors. Who (the brand) actually makes these rotors? Are you protected w/ a coating against rust? Oh yeah...and Rotora seems to make rotors. www.rotora.com If you download the master catalog, you will see that the part numbers for a 92-98 application are different from those for the 99-2000 application. Anyone have experience w/ these rotors? Thank you.
  9. Question regarding brake rotors. I own a 93 SC300. Recently had an inspection on my vehicle and it was determined that I need new brake rotors. The fronts are fine. I need the rears. So I did a search online for available brake rotors...and I'm not really coming up w/ anything that seems available??? Here's a few of the links of what I've found: http://www.coximport.com/brembo/am-lexus.html HOWEVER...it shows a rear rotor application for a 1999-2001 SC300. This sounds kinda trivial...but would this be the same for my car??? http://www.powerslot.com/cat_apps/cars.htm Powerslot also seems to make a set for my car...but the year again reflects 99 - 01. (BTW...why is that? Why are all these companies only listing the 99+ model?) If you guys know of any places to purchase rotors from...please post the link. Thank you.
