  1. That is a smoking deal. I see 95-97's go for that kinda money all the time. I saw a green one,a 98 or 99 at the dealer here back when I was shopping a year or so ago, it was priced right around 20 grand. It was an interesting color, green blue and with the HID lights which I truly envy. I ended up with a silver 95 with 140K for $8000. Good shape but needed the steering screens cleaned, new lower balljoints, new trunk shocks and a new headlamp. They are great cars, this is my second one. Enjoy!!
  2. It is on the steering rack. Close to the input shaft, (steering wheel shaft) a cylinder with wires coming out of the end. I was able to get mine loose with a large channel lock set of pliers.
  3. I'm sure he would have charged you if they found out you bought your hood shocks from Sewell in Dallas.
  4. The receiver drier is built-in to the condenser and is serviceable with a dessicant kit, basically a tube sock full of dessicant. I stand by my statement that these RX's are a pain in the !Removed! to work on. Had the compressor rebuilt and a the new dessicant kit, parts ran me just shy of $400. Needless to say the dealer wanted a LOT more.
  5. My 90 LS had R12, my 95 LS has 134A. I do believe they stopped using R12 in 93 or 94. No way your 98 ever had R12 in it.
  6. On a 99 RX, I am replacing the a/c compressor and was looking for the reciever/drier, can't seem to find it. I'm thinking it is built in to the discharge hose, am I right? A side note, these things are a pain to work on, been an LS man for years. I guess it's just typical FWD tight engine compartments. Thanks
  7. If you're up in the Big D area and can't find any then I doubt you will find much anywhere else. I looked for weeks for a headlamp assembly on my 95 LS and finally ended up dropping the big bucks at the dealer. Most salvagers say that it takes a lot to total a Lexus thus the scarce supply at the scrapyard. I am thinking for 1st gen LS's, 90 thru 94's that may finally be changing though. There was a ragged out 90 model sitting beside the road for a few days not far from here. Made me sad to tell the truth...

    Age?

39 just shy of 40, middle technical management if I could be any more vague and presently torn once again between Lexus and Mercedes, being brutally honest. Got real bored the other day and put new front struts on my LS. Kinda got my eye on a 98 S500, I know for some reason I may regret it though,....
  9. I've been getting right at 23 mpg in town on my 95, figured it several times now thinking I was off somehow but that's what I get. Really unbelievable. I had a honda accord LX once with a four banger that got barely that much. The only thing is the Lex is kinda doggy but with the price of fuel these days I have no real problem dealing with it.
  10. They don't fit. I was really pumped, figured I could get a set on the cheap from a fella doing an upgrade. Good thing I tried them first, eh? They hit the front calipers big time. Thought it would be sweet to keep my next set of wheels in the family as my last LS, a 90, was running Acura RSX wheels, 16's to be exact.
  11. I've searched but as of yet haven't found anyone who has had to replace their trunk lid lift struts. My trunk lid is way heavy, afraid the lady of the house will freak if she ever has to use it, could wack her in the head. Could buy the struts I imagine with what a trip to minor emergency might run. For some unknown reason my hood struts are fine. I know the dealer sticks it to ya on the hood struts and figure the trunk struts are just the same. Anyone found a aftermarket source for them? I know a few years ago I ended up going to the dealer for the hood struts on my 90 LS and at $70 or so a pop it was not a pleasant experience.
  12. Be glad it has cloth as the leather would be utterly trashed. You probably picked it up cheap, under four grand, am I right? I had considered an early RL or even a Legend a few years back but my brother who is an Acura dealer mechanic told me they had problems, head gaskets and ABS problems to be exact. He recommended the LS400. I picked up my 95 LS400 for 8 grand, 141K on the clock. No major issues with it. You'll be back. Better choice than the 500SEL though, IMHO. Same fella on Mercedes shop, right?
  13. how the hell can you suck fluid into the engoine? the hoses dont connect to the engine anywhere. there isnt any way for it to get in. ← Let me take a stab at it. From what I understand the valve is simply a pressure activated vacuum switch that speeds up the engine idle when it encounters high PSI as when the wheel is turned at low engine speeds. It acts just like a bad transmission vacuum modulator will when it goes bad, tranny fluid (in this case PS fluid) will get sucked into the engine if the diaphragm within is ruptured.
