I'm not sure but if the actuators are vacuum controlled a leak in a hose could cause that valve not to be moved to. If low coolant there will likely be an air lock going on too. Air in the system will block the coolant flow.

You are going to find out that some parts books other than the dealer ones are goofed up on some parts for these cars. The cost dealer seals will not break the bank. That is where I would go if your local auto parts store can't find some. Forget all the online stuff when you are stuck. Rock auto is good but if there was a goof up with not so costly parts like a seal, then go in person some place and show them in person what the problem is. So much less hassle than dealing with something you can't see online.

Question About A Module In Trunk
Exhaustgases replied to Exhaustgases's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
The latest news, looked at 92 shop manual and it shows that as the transceiver, funny having a key lock that is super difficult to get to. Kinda strange the one 92 I looked at months ago had the phone but had the transceiver mounted in the area where a 90 would but on the right hand side. And since that supposed 92 I looked at is still forsale I just looked it up and its not a 92 its a 91, that's what happens with age and looking at too many cars does to ya. So no more mystery. -
Question About A Module In Trunk
Exhaustgases replied to Exhaustgases's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
I have a 90 that had a phone, though the phone is gone from the center console box, it has the hands free mic, antenna in the rear window and the radio in the trunk that is mounted above and to the left side not down in the area below the tool box, and has no key lock. I have seen others with the phone with this same sort of setup though the 92 I saw had the radio mounted on the right hand side. And yes that link shows the exact same box that I was talking about. -
Question About A Module In Trunk
Exhaustgases replied to Exhaustgases's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
I have not had the trunk panels out of the 92, I'll have to check and see if it has the brackets sticking out. I'm too sick right now. I will study this some more when I feel better. The particular car had what I think is the amplifier on the bulkhead on the driverside near the gas tank. Just wondering why the key lock on the box? I saw this in a picture someplace for a newer car too but the box was a different size and color. -
Question About A Module In Trunk
Exhaustgases replied to Exhaustgases's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Yes but not this, at least I don't think so, I don't know about a 92 but a 90 does not have this module. Its about a foot long and has a key switch on it? -
Saw a 92 in a wrecking yard with a black electrical module behind the tool box panel on the left side in the trunk, it is mounted on its own special brackettry and has a key lock on it towards the rear. This car was an air ride car, does that box have something to do with that? And why the key lock?

You mean a connector? Just for the rest of us where was the problem at? Glad you got it.

Where To Buy A341E #1&2 Solenoid Valve
Exhaustgases replied to mematney's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Maybe and maybe not. Look at American classic cars there is a ton of aftermarket and reproduction parts for cars that are over 60 years old. Engine and transmission parts seem to always be available because many manufactures reproduce alternative parts gaskets etc to compete with the costly OEM sources. The only parts that become hard to get is anything not reproduced in that sector. -

Your pretty good yourself Billy. I'm not always the best at communication. -
Okay I checked the other 90, that TB has 113044 miles on it and pushing on it the same place as the others it is tight like it should be. The other 90 is loose as a goose, so something is not right, though the TB looks real good and fairly new as compared to the others. So I got 3 that have TB issues, not fun. The 113044 one is not worth doing the TB on until either another engine is up and ready or that one is overhauled, it has oil consumption issues and has very close to 300k on the clock.

Here is the info that you need for the ECU. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/656360-all-my-crazy-lexus-issues-solved-ecu-leaking-capacitor.html -
I have two other engines to compare tension to. I'm just reaching in around the cam sprockets, experience from other belts I've done says this is pretty loose. I'll keep all informed what if anything I find.

Billy not disagreeing with anyone. I'm very appreciative to have the info, and sorry to use the "its not my first rodeo" I did industrial engine and transmission mechanics and on all sorts of rolling stock for about 10 plus years and many more as a machinist. I'm just trying to figure out how check things out with out tearing more down than I need to. I've done the fan bearing bracket before on an LS but not the TB. The TB on this one looks fairly new. And just don't want to do the front of that engine, just too many other things to do for now. I know how nasty the springs or damper fluid can be, hmm similar to hood struts, and that is why using studs would be better than bolts to start something like that, since studs would have full engagement with the mounting holes, after its in position a person could even use a jack to support the tensioner to get the right bolts in. I guess, I don't know what all is in the way, I do need to check and make sure its okay because the belt seems pretty loose, the engine runs fine and sounds good. I have one more to compare to before considering the next move.
-
Similar to Subaru, it looks like it could be done without the pin, may need some studs and nuts then remove one at a time when close. If it can be seen with out removing stuff and the bolts loosened a bit at least I could see if it was working some what.
-
landar, is the pin on the side of the tensioner? Or hiding under a cover that has to come off? The belt does feel pretty loose, and looks like it has been changed? Hmm what if they forgot the pin? So to sum it up is the pin or pin hole visible from underneath?
-
Then a person better not remove it without having access to that pin hole. I'm guessing these belts can't tighten up too much then, its a pretty long belt. I know some TB's you use a tensioner to first establish the tension, then you lock down the tensioner pulley with its bolt. Are these the same way?
-
I have a 90 that I checked the TB for condition on, and it seems kinda loose to me. Also I checked the same on a 92 it does have a TB that's high time with micro cracks, and it also seemed a bit loose. I'm reaching in at the top with the covers off. So are the tensioners just a spring? What kind of mess will it be if I pull it off? Are the bolts long enough to reinstall it without putting in some kind of lock on the tensioner? How loose do these belts feel normally? Thanks.

For under $6k. In the pic's it looked real good. Nice low miles. Problem is the only option it had was leather seats. Base of base models other wise. Looked super clean and new except for some missing plastics under the hood. It looks like its now sold, just goes to show you DO NOT DO MODIFICATIONS TO THESE CARS, THAT CAN NOT BE REVERSED, I see a ton of modded junkers out there that DO NOT SELL. I'd have bought this car in a heart beat if it had all the options, though its not the color I really like. Sure wish I could find the right car.

Regular auto parts stores may be able to get them. I have a good transmission shop that I get transmission parts from that cuts me a real good deal, and get the correct parts each time, unlike auto parts places with kids at the counters. A good old time transmission shop may be your bet for parts and maybe advice too, just tell them your trying to learn the stuff and they likely will help it even works better if you have a father son or daughter project your both learning on, some places really try to help in those situations. You'll have to hunt for the best prices here is one of many places to look http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=a341e&Search.x=14&Search.y=4 Here is the Sewell parts book you will need, you use the area below and scroll for the price. There is supposed to be a discount for us members, http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-catalog/3512MCH699-PowertrainAndChassis-LS400-1991.html These prices look good. http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/A340solenoid.html -

I've had good luck in the past selling on craigslist, if they sound iffy meet them at a shopping center or something. -
And any Toyota dealer parts department will have it too. I don't think they are as high as a Lexus dealer. Either way using anything else is just an experiment, and if you don't know how to take an automatic transmission apart and redo it then you best use the correct stuff.

So did you get it all sorted out?
