Tell me more about this kit. Is it easy to operate and connect? Will the car always stay on this low setting? This sounds interesting.

Ok here's the go, i got the car back. It was cold but i just heard the hissing from the engine bay behind the evaporator again. This a/c place really sucks even if i take it back for them to get it fixed they'd screw something else up i bet.
Anyways my question is there is a lot of water drops (condensation?) in the engine bay in front of the firewall. This is a problem right and is not normal? What can be my problem.

Wow thats really observant of you SRK. Thats amazing. I've had the car for 2 weeks and i didn't notice it. Maybe thats why the handelling is weird. Thanks this forum rocks.

We get Falken in Australia and they aren't bad for the money. Having said that we don't get snow and conditions here will be way different. Has anyone tried Falken over there?

They are just the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) LS400. I imported mine directly from Japan. Its basically a Lexus with a Toyota Badge

However an 89 Celsior does most definetly exist :D
-
Im not in the US and i wish the car and the paperworks said that it was a 1990 model because 1989 makes it sound like an old car from another decade.
-
I found this somewhere but didn't know if every LS400 through the years used the same filter. Is this the one for the 89/90 LS400 i have? denso filter part number 90915-YZZB5

Mine has air suspension however if i knew it had it i probably would have stayed away from it after hearing about the repair costs. If they do fail one day im changing it to springs and shocks.
Having said that it does ride very smoothly. Near where i live they have these shocking rail road crossing and when u drive over the tracks in my other car u just go S*@T but with the lexus u don't feel a thing.
Someone mentioned that above that you can change the damper setup from normal to sport. Although it sounds cool, you can't feel much difference. Especially considering the fact that the LS400 will never be pushed hard enough on the road or the track. For the everyday driver, its a useless gadget.

On mine theres a height control next to the gear stick and it says high and normal. I thought about taking it to a suspension place and reduce the ride height to lowest legal when the car think it is on "high" and so when i park it and push it to normal, it would be sitting way low. But since its a 15yo car, im too scared to play around all the time with the button fearing that it'd break.
However i did come across this and it might be the same or it should for the LS400 if you do have the air suspension and want to try lowering it yourself. I frankly don't have the guts to do it myself in fear of !Removed! up the geometry

I really wish i saw this thread earlier. It should be noted as one of the problems for potential buyers. I tried to get it fixed by a shop and they still couldn't fix it but is charging me labour. I brought another evaporator from the wreckers but had i known there was known problems from the evaporator i would have got one new. The second hand one was bad too and after spending $900 still no cold air. I'll try this again next summer.

Do you have any pics? I would love to see
Are they rubbing because of the aftermarket offset? I've been to some shops and they said its really hard to find aftermarket wheels of the same offset.

Nice website mate
But:
I was under the belief that the UCF11, UCF21, UCF31 were the Domestic market models, (The japanese celsiors with airbags). You mentioned the following:
First Generation - LS400 = UCF10/11
Series I: 1990 - 1992 = UCF10
Series II: 1993 - 1994 = UCF11
I have a DEC1989 build Celsior and it is a UCF11, it says it on every documentation and plates inside the engine bay.
None the less i love your website especially the DIY stuff

Every part man! :(
I don't think i trust mechanics anymore for my car. Better off taking back to the dealer to get big things like this fixed.

Hello
I wish i found this site earlier would have saved me trouble and helped me choosing my LS400.
I just imported a 89/90 Celsior (LS400) From Japan, 60000km but the a/c doesn't work. Thinking it only requires a regas i took it to a shop and they did it.
They then found a leak in the compressor, they said its only a seal so they fixed that.
Then they said my evaporator was gone, i needed another one. Went to a spare parts place and found one, put it in and this one was no good idea.
So after $900AUD, im still left with no a/c and feeling really disgusted at the fact i have to pay for something that didn't get fixed.
My question is how much do i have to pay to get cold air? Is there a known problem with the MK1 Ls400 a/c? Is there a known problem of a failure of the evaporator? Even an aircon specialist can't fix this i guess this has to be a dealer job.
Thanks in advance

Your pontiac comparisson is a classic. In australia, i compare it with the crappy commodores of the time and say this car and that came out at the same time! Unbelievable!.
I took my best friend for a drive today. She didn't believe the car was 15 years old. Even funnier, she said "Woah Its alive!" when we started moving, she didn't hear the engine start or idle! Gotta love the Lexus silence!
