  1. My air con / heater didn't work at all.... I ran various diagnostics and checks... I replaced the blower motor which has got things working but only on high... I suspect the resistor is the problem now, likely needing replacement to restore low and medium blower function... If by any chance someone has the appropriate documentation for a 1992 Windom/ES300 please send it to me at gtstcactus@hotmail.com
  2. Hey, Yeah I had a look for the remains of the old spoiler brake light wiring but it seems that the wires have gone with the spoiler & light. So basically I have to start fresh like installing it into a car that never had one.... At least I know the brake light circuit should be able to cope with the extra light without blowing a fuse etc.... I'm just not sure if doing it by trial & error is likely to blow fuses, circuits, or fry the whole cars electrical system! I presume I can get away with doing it budget style just twisting wires together and taping them secure.... I've asked for help on quite a few different Toyota / Lexus forums and don't seem to be having much luck..... 99.9% of the videos out there on 3rd brake lights installation seem to be about replacement & repair of existing lights, or converting them to LCDs... Basically none on just installing one in a vehicle without one.. FRUSTRATING!
  3. Ok I've realised that the previous owner of my 1992 Windom / ES300 removed the spoiler which contained the 3rd brake light (centre high mounted stop light). It is a legal requirement in NZ to have one on vehicles first registered after 1990, so I've got to have one. I have a light to install, it has a lead containing 2 wires in it, I'm guessing + and - or perhaps + & ground... Electrics / wiring is not a strong point for me... I can't afford an auto electrician to install it, and I can't seem to find any decent install instructions on the internet... So could someone give me some simple instructions to do it - the easy, real low tech way. I don't have a soldering iron / kit. I don't have a wire crimping kit, and would if possible prefer not to have to get one, if it's an absolute must I guess I will. I do have electrical tape! If possible I've got a vision of running the wire from the 3rd brake light, thru the rear parcel tray into the boot/trunk and to either the left or right brake light. I'm just not entirely if I should be cutting wires, and taping together with the new brake light wire added, or just trying to strip the insulation off and wrap the wire around the existing brake light wires... It's already sounding like a disaster, could someone please help me with some guidance with the wiring for a real BASIC, simple install - preferably without soldering. Can I just use electrical tape to hold wires together?? I've been needing to get this done for the last 2 weeks, the internet has let me down so far, please HELP ME!
  4. Yeah what 190LS400 said - Sonic mirror cleaners - the Button below the mirror adjustment button & mirror fold in/out button that makes the side mirrors vibrate - the only power mirror function I have left and the one I'd gladly trade for the other functions back! I don't have headlight cleaning squirters or wipers. Perhaps I should make a video on the feature for giggles....
  5. Yeah the fact I don't have any maintenance history is really why I want to get the old out an something new in....... It seems that additives are not looked upon favourably so I'll just replace the fluids I can do myself, and get a shop to do the transmission so it can be properly drained & flushed.
  6. When I say sonic cleaner I mean the button that's under the mirror adjustment button. The one that makes the mirrors vibrate or whatever it is they do.. Got to go to work soon, so today I'm not going to get anything done car wise, hopefully tomorrow I'll get a chance to spend a bit of time looking for the cause/s of my woes
  7. Ok no magic additives from the Auto shop..... Yes the car has a few issues, mainly minor stuff I think / hope. I think I read ocer at clublexus the auto trannys are designed to act in this way until the fluid reaches a certain temperature... Basically I think everything needs servicing.... The service history is unknown. So oil & filter, auto trans should get some love be it a service or a flush or something, same goes for the radiator / coolant, suspension, air con, some electrical issues (folding mirrors, mirror adjustment)... Do you not agree I should get the transmission serviced, flushed or something? (no magic potions from auto shop tho) You might wonder why one would purchase such a car... Well basically I swapped a Skyline that had been garaged for the last 8 years with a blown transmission for it, so it really cost me nothing so I don't mind doing the servicing and what not that it deserves etc. However my budget is small so I need to do what I can myself........ I get the feeling everyone is getting sick of me asking so many questions. I'm sorry everyone. I do try and read up on things first but there are so many contradictory bits of information out there (even on forums like these) that I sometimes end up more confused than when I started!
  8. Is using Seafoam - doing an Engine Oil Flush??? It seems everyone raves about Seafoam, but using any other product in your oil seems to evoke rather strong responses from people a lot of DONT DO IT ones and some say go for it it's great.... In this case talking about a 92 Windom, with unknown service history 210,000KMs on clock. I'd planned on adding some Repco Engine Oil Flush for 15mins before doing an oil & filter but seems that might not be a good idea if I listen to some of the folk on various forums (who probably know more than I do)
  9. 1992 Windom / ES300 When I start the car up usually first time for the day and drive off the auto transmission seems to be holding onto either 1st or 2nd gear way too long, it basically won't shift into 3rd & 4th. I don't think this is normal even if it is cold and hasn't warmed up...??? After a few minutes driving gently things seem to come right and it revs and shifts as one would expect it too. I suspect the trans hasn't been serviced in a very long time, tho I can't find any evidence of exactly when it was last serviced. Clearly I need to give it some new fluid and get the old stuff out... There is quite a list of things I need to do to the car, and I'm not entirely sure how to prioritise some of these issues as my budget is next to nothing, so I'll do whatever I can myself with help from the forums, youtube and anywhere else I can get help. Is the trans not shifting into the higher gears a sign of the trans about to explode? Or is it just general wear & tear. For the time being I was going to stick some Nulon Transmission treatment in it in hope it might do something useful. I know it would be better to get it flushed and replace ATF then put it in, but I'll just put another bottle in once I do get the old stuff out and some new ATF in. Is this Nulon Trans Treatment likely to be of any help? I also know the trans filter should probably be replaced - it's on the list... So do I need to just sit and let the car warm up for 5-10 minutes before driving when it's cold(petrol is so damn expensive in NZ!) The transmission not shifting like this when cold is giving me memories of my 92 Gtst Skyline - the transmission blew on it. Before it blew it would often hold onto a gear to near the red line - however this was happening hot & cold. The car has approx 210,000kms on it..... First what should I do that I can likely do myself (I'm no mechanic but don't mind giving stuff a go). Secondly regarding getting the trans flushed and fluid replaced, should I go for the option at a shop where they use a machine to remove every drop of the old stuff, or should I go for the drain a bit, add a bit approach over a couple of weeks??? (read somewhere about nightmare results after giving older auto trannys a full flush and replacement) 3rd I read somewhere about installing an external magnetic filter for the transmission - I presume these were not factory fitted - good idea? but probably not a fix for whatever the issue is... Aside from replacing the transmission and getting a new car which are not options at the moment does anyone have any helpful suggestions for me?
  10. Would this magnetic clutch relay apply to my situation in that the a/c console no longer does ANYTHING. 3 days ago I could push the buttons and the corresponding little green light would come on etc. I could use the front and rear de-mister function. I could dial up the desired temperature and it would display my choice (even tho no air hot or cold would blow, so my choice of temp was immaterial but at least the display worked) now nothing. The a/c console/unit no longer displays anything, no green LCD display, no selecting blow on feet, blow on face, no de-mister no nothing (but the clock works). So is my thinking that the MAG clutch relay may be responsible for the lack of hot or cold air blowing when the a/c console unit was working, but it is perhaps not responsible for the A/C console no longer doing anything at all?? I thought I'd checked all the fuses, I'll do it again. There is currently no stereo in place (thanks previous owner) so I can pull the A/C console out and shout at it and curse like a sailor but it doesn't seem to help. I guess I could check all the connections and perhaps use come terminal / contact cleaner if such a product exists (i'm sure it does) It seems odd (tho possibly co-incidental) that the a/c console and mirror folding & adjustment all died at about the same time. They were working in the morning, after I used that damn sonic cleaner I noticed they'd all stopped working. It might have happened earlier but I can't help but blame the dame sonic cleaner! It had been suggested to me by the local A/C repair shop over the phone that the blower motor may be in need of repair / replacement and that I could take it for diagnosis for $60NZD. The $60 won't get it fixed tho. So if possible I'd like to get to the bottom of this myself (with help from the kind folk on here) My car being in New Zealand is a right hand drive - so is the blower motor located on the driver side or passenger side in my car??? I've watched a video on youtube of a guy replacing the blower motor on a camry (was told it's the same for windom/es300). That car was a left hand drive and blower motor was on passenger side I think. Do all things get moved to the other side on right hand drives when compared with left hand drive cars?
  11. Is 32cm enough to raise the car for an oil change on a 1992 model windom / es300?
  12. Thanks for the advice the mirrors don't fold in or out (there is a button solely for this purpose), nor can the mirrors be adjusted up, down, left or right using the appropriate button. I guess I will start with the switches, and areas common to both sides.... Does this AC relay issue affect 1992 models? Is there a way to diagnose the problem if it is the relay without having a replacement on hand?
  13. Got the car started!!! Replacement battery & terminals did the trick, replacement starter wasn't needed... I ended up pulling on the strut until it snapped the bolt (was what I wanted), so now I can get a stud extractor socket onto it (once I go buy one from the hardware store! For some reason the power mirrors stopped folding in and out today..... After I got it started I folded them in, drove car out of garage, folded them out all seemed fine drove the car across town and now they won't fold in or out... Starting to think it's cursed! Need to do rear struts and tires asap. Need to do the belts & water pump also. Oil & filter, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, Should probably drain the radiator and start fresh there too. I'm going to change the air filter as it's the original I think and pretty filthy! The air con console works but there is no action from the air con no hot or cold, so I'm hoping its a fuse, or maybe the blower motor... I've got to sort the stereo out as the last owner made a mess of it but thats low on the priority list... Could the messing with the wiring that previous owner did with the stereo cause other things to stop working such as the wing mirrors folding?
  14. Thanks for the advice I'm off to do battle again shortly, I've got a new battery to put in, and new terminals also. The wiring looks like someone has made a wee mess of it, probably when adding a stereo or something I'm not sure.... I think I'm going to attack the offending bolt or the bit of strut with the ballbearing end in it with a drill.... I've got a spare starter motor on hand in case the battery and terminals don't do the job.... So hopefully I'll be able to report back mission successful a little later on!
