Thanks guys. I popped open the remote with a dime. Battery is a CR2016. Do you lose the programming when you remove it? What if you do it quickly? (some sort of __ sec memory?). BTW, The contacts look sealed so they cannot be cleaned. Thanks!

To unlock doors on my 98 ES300 I must press 3-5 times and VERY FIRMLY. Anyone have this problem? Is it the battery (5 years since new), the internal contacts, both? Manual sez go to dealer to replace battery. Anyone know how to do it yourself? (how to open, do you need to reprogram, etc.). Any help would be appreciated

I had a similar problem with my 98 ES300. The engine light turned on. Lexus also said it was the charcoal canister and "VCV Rail", also about $800. When I posted this problem at Edmund's site I got a reply saying to remove the EFI fuse for about a minute (engine off) and then replacing it. It worked perfectly, but weeks later reoccurred. When the light turned on a third time I immediately turned off the engine, opened the gas cap (to relieve the pressue), closed it, and started the engine. Problem solved (for now)! I've also since then replaced the gas cap and have had no more problems, but it's now been cool now for 6 months. Problem may arise now that we are beginning to get into the summer. One wonders why to replace both canister and vcv rail (whatever that is)? Will keep you updated

I too have a 98 ES300 with a rapidly blinker on the right side and finally figured how to change the bulbs. Problem is that all filaments in the front and rear bulbs are OK!!!! Also, occasionally the rapid blinker goes back to the normal rate with front and rear bulbs operating normally. Makes me think that this is perhaps some sort of blinker module that must be replaced...but where?
