  1. If the splines have been overgreased, that would cause the problem. Mark the location of the drive shaft in relation to the diffs. Take the driveshaft off. Mark the two pieces of the shaft so you can put it back together the exact same way. Separate the drive shaft and clean out all the grease. When completely clean, rub some grease on the splines. Grease the U joints while its off. Re-install the drive shaft and see if that fixes it. It's about a 45 - 60 minute job the first time. Hardest part is getting the screws of. Have a breaker bar for your socket handle or use a long 1/2 inch socket wrench to give you leverage.
  2. You know that Lexus LX450/470 is 95% identical to the Land Cruiser 80/100's Go over to IH8MUD in the vendor section you will find an link called " Getting a hold of Cruiser Dan". He is the parts manager at a Toyota Dealership and gives the members ther a 25% (or so) discount. He also is a great guy to get to know and will give you lots of advice. The contacts would have been cheaper than the new starter.
  3. My ride definitly improved on my LX450 after the OME installation. My wife even said it made a big difference. You can go with a stock height or get a 2.5" lift (go with the lifet). Either will give you a better ride even then the Land Cruiser parts. Doug - Look John is here now :D There weren't any more Land Cruiser for him to buy! ←
  4. You have to take the hub off and then remove the 8 bolts that hold the rotor to the plate. Since you will have to pull the hub off, make sure you have the right gaskets before you start and you might as well clean and repack the bearings since you will be taking them off. If you haven't done the front axle rebuild and it has 100K miles, you might consider a Front Axle rebuild and replace the rotors while your at it. Here is a thread from a person in a similar predicament. http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=30574
  5. This is a common problem with LX450s and Land Cruiser 80 series. While your in there, have them fix the Pesky Heater Hose (PHH). The below is a link to this on IH8MUD: http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=6994 This is a great site for LX450's. Go up to what is called the 80's section BTW - a Head Gasket replacement at two local shops in the Denver area runs about $1000. Unless they need to swap the radiator too. Having to replace the engine is BS. This is basically a Toyota. The entire engine is a Toyota. Take it to a local (not dealer) shop that specialiezes in Toyota. It wil last another 100,000-200,000 miles if done right. For more info go to the site I linked and do a search on Head Gasket in the 80 series section. It will give you all the info you are looking for
  6. My LX450 did the same thing. Lexus has a softer ride than the Land Cruiser. I also swapped my suspension for an Ole Man Eu suspension. One without a lift would solve your problem. Even my wife noticed the difference. I got one with a 2.5" lift. I wheel mine on light trails and at Moab. I have an FJ40 for trails were I am concerned about damage
  7. I installed 285 75 R16s on my LX450. Tire is about 2 inches taller which gives you about 1 inch extra height ← I then installe a 2.5 OME lifted suspension. Tires did not need it, but I wanted the clearance for off roading
  8. I installed 285 75 R16s on my LX450. Tire is about 2 inches taller which gives you about 1 inch extra height
  9. IH8MUD.com in the 80s/LX450 section would be the place to go and its mostly about mods and working on your rig. That's discussed a lot more then wheeling. Some of the mods like sliders and ARB bumpers and OME lifts are for wheeling. There have been a lot of threads on this over there and you might want to do a search
  10. Thanks. I found it the other day doing a search on . . . now I don't remember. Damn, its a !Removed! to get old.
  11. You have to take the hub off and remove the 8 bolts holding the rotor. If all your going to do is change the rotor, then you need to clean and repack the inner and outer wheel bearings along with the appropriate seals. If your front axle has not been rebuilt in the last 50,000 miles, I would recommend doing this at the same time. You will be almost halfway there in the disassembly process. I would also replace the Pads with 100 (Land Cruiser) series pads. If you plan on doing this your self. I also recommend going to the following link: http://forum.ih8mud.com/index.php? And selecting the 80's(LX450) tech link. This forum is great for helping with advice and how to's. There are links to how tos with photos, etc. I also used the Factory Service Manual and its pretty straight forward. If you plan on doing any work your self, you need to get the manual. In addition. A member of the forum (Cruiser Dan) is a parts rep for Toyota and gives everyone a 25% discount on parts. The 80 series Land Cruiser and LX450 parts are almost identical with the exception of some trim and lights. Good Luck Ken
