  1. So what would a used transmission for a 98 GS 400 run? $4000?
  2. Really? Thats cool. Well he says he has 3 older Lexuses that all needed new transmissions when they got close to 200k. I have known this guy for years, always fixing my cars when the break down. (which is why im looking at lexus) He also said that the GS transmission is close to 10K. True or false?
  3. Does anyone know why the ES has the rain-sensing wipers as a readily availible option yet the more expensive and luxurious GS doesnt? Always wandered that....
  4. anthony, neither did i. the dealer said it was a VERY LIMITED and rare option. my GMC envoy has the rain sensing wipers and uses a black circle-dotted thing to detect the rain. in the gs, its a little black box behind the rear view mirror (maybe aftermarket?). when i test drove it, it rained, and indeed, the wipers responded. cool huh? rumor also has it that some gs have heated rear seats. why the secrecy? i dont know....
  5. I am looking into buying a GS with rather high miles on it and my technician at the shop said that the transmission is probably weak and will die soon. Has anyone experienced any transmission problems on their Lexus? I thought that’s why you buy Lexus- to get away from those problems... Let me know!
  6. Nope I havent bought it yet. My machanic is weary about the mileage and isnt too sure of the transmission. What are you asking? What are the specs?
  7. You might want to do a search here on extended warranty. Some of the companies have to be fought with to get them to approve repairs sometimes. Or plug the names of some of the companies into Google and look for customer reviews. ← Cool and thanks for your help! Aside from the warranty, It looks good? Thanks and help appreciated!
  8. I tell you what. I purchased a Whistler 1743 at Meijer for $70. I know it may be weaker than some, but that thing picks up from FAR AWAY! It was going off because of a cop that was nearly 3 exits away! The detector also has features taht arent mentioned. It dectects that "pulse" thing out now (even tho the manual doesnt mention it). It doesnt have a full icon display like the manual says, rather, it has an icon and number display. The numbers go from 1-9 in closeness. It also shows P when pulse is detected and says "K-Band Pulse!" It talks and has more features I like. It auto-lowers when it beeps for more than 5 seconds. After about 5 seconds, the beeping (and voice) lowers to a non-annoying level. VERY COOL. Even cooler, can make sure you are awake by randomly saying "Stay alert" and you have to press any button to make sure u arent falling asleep. It receives all the lasers, bands, and even traffic and emergency signals. It has seperate K and Ka readout. It has 1 highway and 2 city modes. It is the coolest (and really dependable) radar I have ever owned! just my 2 cents...
  9. This isn't a Lexus or Toyota dealer. It is a used car lot. He said the warrenty is through companies I can choose from. Sound OK? Thanks
  10. On earlier GS's (and LS's for that matter), there was a button labeled "auto" next to the joystick. This turned the auto tilt-away on or off. In the latter models, the tilt-away function isn’t locally controllable and must be turned on and off by the dealer at your request. Hope this helps.
  11. Does the Nak system in a 98 GS400 have the ASL or something like that? Thanks
  12. Hello I am new to this forum, and thinking of buying a 1998 GS 400. It has very high mileage, 168000, but runs fantastically. I drove it today and fell in love. Anyway. I know its high mileage, but I have heard that Lexus vehicles are the most reliable. The cost is $12,950. Is that reasonable? The dealer says for an extra $1000 I get a 5-year warranty covering everything (so they say) except preventative maintenance. Should I go through with the purchase? There are no flaws. It needs new front brakes, but I can deal with that. I have a 2003 Toyota Avalon XLS. Is the maintenance on the GS much more expensive? I really appreciate help! Incase its important, heres what the GS has: -Rear spoiler -Xenon headlights -Rain-sensing wipers -Seat heaters -Nikamichi stereo -Red orangish paint Is it worth it? Warranty: yes/no? Hows maintenance? Thanks all! B)
