  1. More info would help. Like yaer. Also when does light come on. What are you doing or not doing? What does light look like. Some folks confuse the check engine light or bulb out light for the brake warning light. Did you do a search? Lots of things can effect the light. Again depends on the year of your car. Have you had to top off fluid? How do brakes feel? Do they or the pedail fade???? Are you making sure barking brake is fully released..... We can't help you if you don't give lots of info and have not done a search first.
  2. Thank you. I am going to replace the pump. Almost ordered off Ebay from HigFlow, but whent with Mr. FuelPump... I'm hopeing that a $50.00 fix will work. I have the instructions for doing the work, and pulling the rear seat. Should have it done in a week. Will post.
  3. Unless I missed it, why have you not replaced the fuel filter??????
  4. I have an 84 Saab that is appraised at over $7,000.00. Blue book is under $1,000.00. I have it insured under a policy that is called "Stated Value". Almost all insurance companies will do this. You get the car apprised and they get a coy of the apprasil. But shop around. A lot of the policies limmit how many miles you can drive. The other thing you can do is every year just have it apprased. If it is "totaed" demand the apprased value, and give the apprasail as proof. I had to do this on my truck a few years back. Ask you insurance company for an appraser that works in your area. Advantadge. They can't knock an appraser they use. Disadvantadge, apprsail most likly to be on the low side. Hope this helps. I have American Family Insurance in Arizona, but I did this with the Auto club when I was in Caliornia.
  5. I do not see how it could be the fuel, as car ran great for 30 miles after I did the filter. Also if the gas was now so bad that the car can't go a block without acting up... It would not have times when it runs fine. Also I believe if I messed up injectors, they would not work, then not work. At this piont I believe I have a delivery issue, not a quality issue.
  6. I just did it. It is a pain in the "A". See post:http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48664 Did you try doing a search?
  7. My 91 LS400 was acting like it was not getting any fuel. Classic example that folks post, and everyone responds with “Replace the fuel filter”. In fact about 15,000 miles ago I had the same trouble, and replacing the filter did the trick. Not this time. Yesterday out of the blue car started to randomly act like it was getting no fuel, then it would be fine, then no fuel. I suspected bad fuel or bad fuel filter. I bought a new fuel filter, and a can of B12 Chem-tool and HEET to take care of any water etc… If bad gas. I put the stuff in the tank, toped off the tank (added 6 gallons), and replaced the fuel filter. Car ran great…. For 30 miles. Now it is just about dead. It can hardly keep running for a block. Typical fuel starvation issues, wither in D or N. No check engine light ever! So, looks to me like it has to be the fuel pump and strainer. My plan is to order the parts and replace both…. Unless someone can tell me another likely reason that I’m missing. Until then car is parked and driving the truck at 8mpg….
  8. If you replace the MAF and still get the wild idel swing, then look at the idel control valve. Do a search to find out how to test it.
  9. Thank you all. I did atempt this late last night. What a pain in the "A"....... After you remove the one small screw, there is more to it then just pulling it out. There is a "pin" on the back of the lens that goes onto a fitting on the housing. You need to pull it hard enough to pull the pin out of the socket, but not brake the pin off the back of the lens. I did the drivers side first. Broke the dam pin. Good thing for JB Weld.... On the passanger side I pulled it out just enough to look in and see the socket (it's a bright yellow). I hit it with some WD 40. Then kind of pulled and winggiled and turned back and forth. That one came out fine. On putting back togeather I put a small amount of grease on the pin. It should not hurt anything, and may help if I have to pull again to fix the lights or get to the hidden A/C parts.
  10. The 91 came with R-12 from the factory. If I was more then one can low I would convert to 134a. If your car has allready been converted, the fittings will be diferant then the ones for r12. Any shop that does AC work can tell you if the fittings are old or new. The old r12 have a thread on them. 134a have no threads on them. They are more of a quick conect . You can get a conversion kit for around $40.00. Just make sure to have the system vacumed down before converting and adding the 134a. If you have any r12 in the system some shops will vacum the system down for free just so they can recover and resell the r12.
  11. Thank you. Looks like I need to pull the side light then I will see/find the screw I had been misssing.
  12. I have used the search fuction oin this forum, and on google. No help. I looked at LexLS's site, close, but no help. My pasanger side headlight is out. I bought a set of Silverstar ultra's to put in. But I can not figre out how to replace them. I removed a small sceww, and two 10mm bolts. Headlamp assymbaly is now totally loose. But it will not pull out. O have tried pulling up, side to side, and so on. Only comes a small way out on the side by the radeator. Other side seems to hag up on the parking lamp. I can pull apart and get a gap. But it still will not come out. I feel if I pull any harder I will brack something........ I did one screww and two bolts on each side. What did I miss??? Help please. Need to hit the road later tonight.
  13. Any other info.. Help.. bump back up..
  14. I have a 91 Lexus LS400. Both windshield cleaning nozzles on the hood got completely clogged. I tried using a needle to clear. No help. I then opened the hood and disconnected the supply line near the driver’s side hinge. I used compressed air to bow into the line. No help. I then used the compressed air to blow into the nozzles. Well the driver’s side nozzle is now flowing fine, but the passenger side is still totally clogged. I know of I can get to the back side of the nozzle I can pull the line to it and clear it. But how do you get to it???? I saw the oval rubber plug inside the hood. I pulled that and you can see the bottom of the nozzle, and the hose. I could get a screw driver in there, and force the line off. But I would never get the line back on. How can I pull the nozzle off, or get to the darn line in a way that I can pull it and put it back on? Thank you.
  15. I'm getting replacement switches for both the driver side and pasanger side front door switces as the heat over the years has made the old units come appart. Antone know how to do the replacement. How to get the old units out of the door? I looked and did not see any screws or conectors. It looks like you pry then up... But I do not know... Anyone know the real how to replace? Again thank you all.
  16. OK now an update. I desided to try a cheep fix. I bought a new gas cap at AutoZone. For $8.00. I know have vacum in the tank, and that sound when you open the gas cap. I reset the CPU etc. Check eng light is off... For now. Only been about 20 miles of driving. We will see. I know I can replace the gaskit on the factory cap... But the gasket from Lexus is $10.00 Cheeper to buy a after market gas cap. I did not think it would be the gas cap, as the "old" one was under 2 years old.
  17. I forgot to state that I did reset the the computer. I know some do it by pulling thefuse, but I find it a lot easer to just pull the + battery cable for 5 to 10 min.
  18. Lexus states thet the tires on my 91 LS 400 should be 30 lbs both fron and rear. I have goodyear assurance tires on the car now ( I like them) they are rated at 44 lbs max inflation. That is a 14 lbs diferance. I know 44 lbs is the rated max. amount. Not a recomendation on what to inflate to. I also know that Lexus recomends 30 lbs to get a better ride, without regard for MPG or tire life. I have been running them at 40 LBS. The ride seems a little more "sporty" and the tires handle better ( I know, as more LBS in tires stiffen the side walls, so you get better handaling) I also picked up 1 MPG over running at 30 LBS and my tires will last longer. I mainly run at the 40 LBS to get the tire life and MPG. What do you folks run your tires at and why?
  19. Like a lot of you I have had an onging fight with my Check Engine light on my 91 LS 400. It reads out to be my egr, but that is not much of a help.. I have posted on this before. Well the thing is again back on. So I checke vacum lines. All checked OK no leaks. Replaced the fielter in the egr Vacum Mod. And as it was only 4 bucks put in a new PCV valve. Still the dam light is on. Last time I had a fight with this I did all the above and put a new gas cap on. Light would go one and off depending on the fuel level in the tank. After I desided to live with it. It started to work right. On getting gas at this time I am not getting that "hiising" sound on "poping" the gas cap open. I doubt it is a bad gas cap as the "new" one is only about 1 1/2 years old. Any ideas on what or why no vacum on gas tank????? Thank you.
  20. My 84 Saab seats are still great, and nothing has failed on it from the UV rays. 300,000 miles on org engine trany turbo, and yes it is still a blast to drive and can run at 100 all day long.... Nothing on my 88 ford truck as died from UV rays. Still drives fine... But I did have to redo the front seats. I just feel that if a company nows the design turned out to be bad, the should work with folks that bought the cars new on fixing the issues..... I do give Lexus credit it is a great car, and they are nice about if you loose the only key you have for the car, and have to replace the computer with a new key.... But I believe they should also do on freebee on the LCD issue etc..... Just my feelings.
  21. I realy like my 91 LS 400 and I know the engine and drive train will last a very long time... But for a car that cost a boat load brand new I think the following really sucks! The LCD on the Heat/AC Goes Black... Lexus expects you to spend around 1,000.oo parts and labor to replace. Yes, I'm getting a rebiult and DIY for $150.00 The Front Driver's switches warp and fall apart from the suns heating the car over the years.... I have no Idea what Lexus wants to fix.. Again DIY used parts for me $90.00. Front seats kill your butt. Don't think so.. Do a search. I'm not paying $1,000.00 to redo leather seats with better foam. DIY with sheep skins and a piece of memory foam. Everyone knows this is true. Most iyems fixed in 92 or 93 years... But why won't Lexus do the fix for the folks that paid big bucks for these cars. Mine was bought new and has stayed in the family. With 160,000 miles on it, it is long from being dead. But fixing stuff that was just poorly made on a lexus realy sucks! What do you folks say? Have I forgotten any of the "known" badly designed things on the LS that Lexus should have fixed for free long ago????
  22. Thank you all. Checked out ebay, ect. Never heard back from TAP. I did also check Criagslist.. Most were 125.00 or more just for drivers side. Went online to one of those juck yard requist sights. Heared back from 5 places. Got both front switches ( driver and pasanger side) with wood trim parts for $87.00 total with shipping.
  23. SRK I loved your response..... I have been looking into what would I replace the "Lexus with"... If I was going to... OK a nice under powered 4 banger gives me that great MPG... Or the odd 3 bangers that are out there.... But they go so slow... Can't get up a hill around here and even hit 65 MPH, and have no inside space and the ride is not that great...... Unless you turbo the things... But if you do, you drop that MPG down into the mid 20's... And for a few more MPG, I ant giving up all the LS offers me! I really don't get it....Only the 4 bangers get the really nice MPG... If you go to a 6... Most of them get gas mileage below what some 8's give you........ My friend bought a used 2002 caddy with a nice 8 cyl. eng. In town only 18 MPG, but on the hwy he gets 30+ He gets power comfort and size and better MPG then any 6 cyl, and even better then a lot of turbo 4's! I know the reason is a lot of high tech stuff on that 8, and the fact that it cuts to 4 cyl, depending on the need.... But you would think that if you can get 30 out of a caddy, with 8 cyl.. and all that weight... A six should give you at least 40+! Have some fun and play the what I'm I going to buy game... Go to : http://www.fueleconomy.gov You can look up any car sold in the US from 1985 up, and see the MPG..... It will show that very few cars that have good power and comfort get even 20 MPG, or are not much better the 91 LS... Boy have we gone of the subject of my posting... I really just wanted to know if anyone had gotten a few more MPG more out of the LS and "how"..... I will admit I did not expect a positive response as with the eng design and electronics it's not like there is anything to tinker with.... Thank you all... SRK... Yu said it.... Unless you have to and have no choice about it.... Who wants to ride in a little $#@!^%$
  24. Thank you. I looked at the first action link... Looks just like what I want... But it is in Japanes... Any Idiea what the part was going for in US$$$ ?? The closeist Recycling yard is over 100 miles from me. I live in a small town. I will call TAP on monday. Thank you.
