  1. Yes I'd be very much interested in learning about this too. Mine is also 2005 RX330.

Really appreciate if someone explains this..

Here is what I believe is the situation.

2005 RX 330 has Gen 4, version 4.2 firmware and maps -- override works

Gen 4, version 5.1 firmware and maps -- override works

Gen 4, version 6.1 firmware and maps -- override fails

Gen 4, version 7.1 firmware and maps -- override fails

Gen 4, version 5.1 DVD has a file named loading.kwi. This file changed in version 6.1 which is why the override fails.

The hybrid DVD takes the Gen 4, version 6.1 files and replaces its loading.kwi with the loading.kwi from the version 5.1 DVD. One has to burn this on DVD+R DL media at no more than 4X (burner must be able to DVD+R).

    Gen 4, version 6.1 + loading.kwi(version 5.1) = hybrid 6.1 DVD -- override works

Theoretically, this will work with the version 7.1 firmware, but I have not had time to research that issue completely. My initial thinking is that some other changes have occurred that may prevent this hack from working.

Also, once one loads one version the only way to go back a version is to remove fuse TV-1 for the Nav unit which powers it off and it will then do a complete reload when power is restored. The same could be accomplished by removing the battery cable and then replacing it.

The problem becomes one of finding a version 5.1 and 6.1 DVD. I did find this site for downloading loading.kwi but have not had time to study it.

So much for now. It is late.

    YMMV

Great post Mike !! that makes sense... now if I could only find a newer version than my 2005 RX330 Gen4 ver4.2.. I could give it a try..

  2. I am considering updation the DVD Navigation software from 5.1 to 7.1 on the 2004 Rx330(Generation 2/3). I am able to override the lockout on the existing 5.1 mapping software while driving using the direct touch screen entry method posted in several forums. If I upgrade to 7.1 will the override process still work? If yes is the process the same? Thanks for any replies.

yes it will you need to make what they call a hybrid dics if you want this function, i have made one for my gen 2/3 nav

I assume the same problem exists for 2005 RX330 Gen 4, 5.1 to 7.1 in terms of losing the override function. Would you please post the instructions on how to make a hybrid disk or paste a url for where one can find that information.

    Thanks

  3. My wife's 05' RX330 only has 10K miles and when I called the Lexus service in my area

they're quoting me $200 for 10K service ! Is this normal ? Seems too high

for an oil change and some checks (probably tire rotation included).

Appreciate other suggestions from you guys here..

  4. I have an RX330 with a Motorola V505. Here are the problem issues..."termite", maybe you can help?

When I call someone handsfree, the call connects, but I cannot hear them, and they cannot hear me for a five seconds, so people on the other end sometimes say "hello" two or three times and hang up.

The second problem/question: How do you get the address book to show up on the car screen? Is there some special button on the phone, because I've looked and looked and can't find it.

    Would appreciate anyone's help.

    berisky@aol.com

    Berisky,

That's strange. I don't think I've experienced that behavior. When I call it rings

and the person picks up and I can hear them say hello immediately. No one

    complained so far.

On your second issue, are you asking how you can transfer the phonebook

from the phone to the car ? I simply followed the Motorolla V600 instruction

posted on the lexus website. It's very similar to V505.

    http://lexus2.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/lexus2....ated=1087232195

I can give you specific V505 details if this doesn't work out.

If you have already transfered names/numbers into the car, all you have to

do is press "info" button on the car navigation and select "telephone" (from

what I remember) and go from there to see the nembers. You can also

setup about 18 different quick dial numbers from the phone book which can

be used to dial while driving.

  5. In case anyone out there is interested, I am using a Motorola V710 in my 2005 RX.  It works hands free, but I have to dial from the phone since the V710's phonebook will not download to the car phonebook, and an incoming call does not ring (but it does interupt the music and show on the nav screen).

Motorla tech support says they are going to release a V710 software update in the next two weeks that will solve these glitches and make the V710 fully compaible with the RX.

Though you're right about the limited usage, I can very easily use the one-touch dial to dial out while driving using my v710. What you do is:

    1) Make an out going call, then hang up

    2) Go to the setting section and Add the outgoing call to the one-touch. You will get an entry showing the phone number in the one-touch screen

    3) Now you can use that for dialing out while driving. You don't see any names, and in fact while driving you won't even see the phone number, but if you remember that #1 = Home and #2 = Work...etc, it works. Sucks, but works.

Are you sure you don't see the names in one-touch ? I thought mine shows the

names but won't show the numbers while driving..

  6. Just to let folks know that I'm using Motorolla v505 successfully with the 2005

RX330. It works great and I'm very happy.

My Motorolla V505 phonebook did download to the car phone book, but I had

to transfer one number at a time. Incoming calls ring as well.

  7. Thanks to everyone for valuable input here !

This morning I stopped at my dealership and showed this to my sales rep.

He asked one of their guys to do a touch up to cover up the slight black pastic

exposure. Since the scratch is at the lowest part of the bumper below the

left tail light it's not very obvious on the first look. After the touch up I can only

see it if I go and look and feel under (no black plastic exposed any more)

He also called their shop and got a quote of $350-400 to repaint the entire

bumper if that's required. We both thought it's probably a good idea to save the

money and wait to do a full paint job on a more serious scratch that might occur

in the future. (hopefully I'll never have such a need).

I'm happy with the current results for now and am also impressed with the

Lexus customer service particularly with my sales agent. He took me in

and spent a good amount of time with me and my car.

  8. Can you feel the scratch when you rub your hand over it? If you can then there is no way to repair it except with paint. If its that long I also wouldn't do this yourself, find some places in your area that have good references (do check them yourself) that specialize in bumper repair. It can probably be fixed to 90% by a skilled person with touchup paint and wetsanding but you'll always notice it even if others don't.

If it were my car I would turn it into my uninsured motorist coverage (as a hit and run so it wont affect your premiums) and get the whole bumper repainted.

How does the uninsured motorist coverage work ? Am I eligible even if I was not

there at the time of the incident (which is what happened in my case).

  9. Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum so please bear with me. I recently bought a new RX330

and while parked on a street in San Francisco it appears that someone

(while trying to park behind me) scraped the left side of my rear bumper leaving

a scrape mark about 10 inches long. I didn't see this at night when I drove back

and only saw it this morning.

I'm really angry about this. My color is Bamboo Pearl. Do you guys have any

suggestions as to how I can go about getting this fixed ? What is the likely

    cost ?

    Thanks much

    AE
