  1. Aidas: Go to the info button on your Navigation Unit, then to Maintenance, Select Oil - Reset, Filter - Reset this one also. Both of these need to be reset as they are connected to Oil Maintenance related. Then everything is reset and you should be good to go.
  2. Jim: Seems to me it's the other way around. You little green men "grunts" are simply someone to guard the briggs at US Navy bases. HeeHee !! What years did you serve? My ship the APA-222 was on station in '64 when the Gulf of Tokin incident occurred. We were sent to White Beach Okinawa,Japan and on loaded 1800 of you grunts and went to sailing up & down the coast 20 north & 20 south of Da Nang for 90 days and then took the men to Subic Bay, Philippines. Then back to Okinawa for 1800 more.......... was one heck of a long 6 months. '65 all we did was ferry 1800 jarheads to Subic play a few sorties and go get another 1800. But we did land quite a few of you guys at Da Nang, that the Admiral on the Princeton LPH-5 volunteered us for. The bad part, we were sailing to Sydney, Australia! Talk about a bunch of ticked off swabbies!!!! '67 was the year that we took part in several beach landings in Da Nang, Cam Ranh Bay, and I spent a week in country taking part in Operation Jack Stay. The Cam Ranh Bay landing were a blood bath for our grunts. They got chopped up pretty bad in ambushes by two full battalions of North Vietnam's Regulars. Lost a good friend there.....! But War is HELL, and there is no two ways about it. Well I guess I've been lucky Jim, as I've only had one car wreak since '61 when I got my license, and that was in town and no injuries. And my Passport 8500 X50 has saved my skinny butt more times an I can count. Our boys down here only have Ka that they run full- on. And the Dot officer never set it off because he shot me with a pulse gun. Never had a chance, shut the car down and pulled over within 500ft and he didn't even bat a eye to give me a 28 over ticket. It was a 55 zone and it was doing 78 when I crested the hill. It was less than 200 ft short before it went back down and there he sat facing me on the other side. Never had a chance. That was 6 points and $168, but that was over a year ago and holding. But I do slow down cresting that hill now for sure!!!
  3. GS3504: Look in your owners manual, it's a user friendly upgrade. Just follow the instructions step by step that come with the new disk. ONLY buy it from Lexus though. Not EBay! My '06 GS430 hadn't been updated since factory shipped and the cost is over $100, but there has been quite a few road additions and changes since then, so I took the plunge and it only takes a few minutes. If there hasn't been a ton of changes in your driving area, I'd say leave it for a few years, but if you regularly travel to new areas of the country I'd go for it!
  4. 1990LS400: I'm an ole' US Navy engineman, and my father was a new & used car salesman most of his life. Yes the Mass Airflow Meter as it's called in the digital service manual, is a very sensitive and most important part of the engines performance chain. It not only measures the airflow, but the density of the air and that is then combined with the other sensors to properly inject the correct amount of fuel. Also the temperature of air and combustion exhaust emissions. And I will perform the fix myself, being more than a little technically inclined. We have very limited amount of interstate highways in the SE corner of NM, so most of my driving is done on 2 & 4 lane roads. Also if you go to the Vehicle Library on Lexus's website, the specs for the '06 GS430 calls for 18city 25highway, but that depends on your driving style. At almost 68 minus a couple of weeks, and more than 40 miles between cities and towns where I live plus the lack of police protection while on the highway because of budget constrains, I set my cruise control on 80 and of course I run a Escort detector! It has saved me on all but one occasion. Dag nab it, Dot officer on a extremely short duration hill on a back road............. but I have almost have decided to go the stock Lexus filter after correcting the MAFM. Thanks Pied1946........
  5. I am currently running a K&N oiled type air filter, well apparently some of the oil has got on the Mass Airflow Meter; because the gas mileage is in the teens then when you fill it up it will start the mpg read- out on the multi-display at 4.5-6 range and go all the way into the mid twenties. If you go straight to the highway and set the cruise on 80mph. After you get 40 miles then the wife starts her 6-8 mile a day trips to work and to the store etc. etc. Then it's back in the teens again. Even if you take it out of the highway, you might get it back to 19.9; then that's where it stays. So, has anyone used the aFe Pro-Dry 31-10158 even though it's for the GS250-350 cars according to aFe's web page lookup for Lexus? I do notice that the illustration for the filter shows the pleated filter material is squared off in comparison to Lexus's filter for the car.Less airflow means it should run leaner. -air/same fuel sent to injectors! Will it work on this auto? :( Decided against aFE Pro-Dry; went instead to the #7032 Green Filter brand. Also a oiled rechargeable filter, but oh what a filter filter element thickness on the K&N 3/4"-Green Filter 1 3/4". You can also use warm water to wash the filter and a fan to help dry it. After installing this filter and running three refuel cycles the gas consumption has corrected itself. So all is good to go. I have also contacted UniChip and they are going to sell me to piggyback chip to eliminate the 155mph limiter. But I have to go to Tempe,AZ to have it installed and dynode to get everything massaged so it will run to the maximum speed correctly.
  6. Nabil: Like I said, all I need to do is get mama to come across with $595 + s&h; call Unichip that has already located a harness that will work with their chip and the '06 GS430; tell them to do their magic after telling them the engine code 3UZFE. I will come with the K&N filter preprogrammed only, but when I talked to the R&D person I specified that I wanted the speed limiter eleminated. No prob- lem was the response. No I will not do away with the plenum, I will get my son that is a professional welder to build me an aluminum box with o-ring gasket seal on the top; then I will proceed to dry carbon fiber overlay this with several layers for heat shielding. I then will get a 6061 aluminum tube to run from the throttle body with the appropriate bends in it and all the fitments attached. I will lay carbon fiber around this also. I would also like to replicate the intake nozzle that comes off the top of the radiator wall down to the in- let of the box with aluminum inards and carbon overlay for shielding. But this will be every tricky as the orignial on the GS430 is only a 3/4" opening several inches long. The aluminum with carbon overlay is not my idea, it is just duplicating the Toyota Crown Majesta intake system. If I could simply get one sent in from JA land (amateur term for Japan), I would. But that could be expensive to say the least. Plus I wouldn't even know how to get ahold of someone over there that does tuning for a living to get one sent.......... Oh, well nothing is easy now adays. But yes all you will have to do is call UniChip tell them what the engine code is and the model of Lexus you have, with the included funds and you are on your way. Now the only intake filter they program for is the K&N, but you simply take it to a tuner that they will find for you in your area. He will have to put the car on a dyno and massage the piggyback program for anything that you wish to add - catback - coldair intake - etc. etc. I would prefer the aFE dry filter instead because of all the work and possible oil soaking of the MAF that is possible with the K&N. I've had to drive through quite a few dust storms the last few years in the SE corner of NM, the K&N can get rather dirty rather quicky!
  7. J Ho: The man said, "Cambodia" like in South-East Asia; west of VietNam and way South and West of Japan! And he also mentioned there are NO dealerships for Lexus in his country. PLUS this is the Lexus GS forum, not the IS forum. So without a dealership he would be hard pressed to get the Dealer to custom program his GS300!
  8. Nabil: Pied1946 again. When I got my '06 GS430, they gave me a '07 GS430/GS350 manual also. The female sales persons mistake really, I had already found the '06 manual in the trunk lashed where the first aid kit was suppose to go. In the manual, you did get one didn't you? Go to the back and lookup TRAC(traction control), go to the page referenced and you should find that the procedure involved is not on the dash; but under the lip of the center console. "Quickly push and release the TRAC button under the center console alongside the PWR/ECT/SNOW button, the upper Trac cntrl light will come on and stay on the indicator lights around the speedometer." Simply push the TRAC button again and that indicator light will go out again and you are back into Traction control mode. NOW, with your GS300 AWD model it may not have this feature since, it is a All Wheel Drive system that is prodominate all wheel drive TRACTION, TRACTION, & TRACTION oriented machine to start with. I've never been inclined to disable my traction control, because of two things; (1) I'm 67 yo and a diesel engine repair person (tire spin is not good) (2) $260++ tires X4 Michelin Pilot Sport 245/40ZR18 93Y M+S tires. I want mine GS430 to flat out go, no tire spin and get passed the century mark quickly. So my first purchase will be the UniChip & harness like I told you about the first time. With the speed limiter disabled, then when I can get the wife to allow the expenditure to the budget I will get SS Cat back exhaust system and I will do a dry carbon fiber overlay of an aluminum box to house the K&N air filter that I already run. Then it's off to Tucson,AZ to the closest tuner for UniChip and have the Catback and colder air programmed into the UniChip.
  9. Nabil: No sir I haven't talked to a Lexus mechanic about possible miss fires. The '03 Tundra now has 40K+ on the odometer and the '04 Avy had 71K+ and I changed the oil to Caster oil on both of them and the Avy to Sintec and added ZMax to both. Never had a misfire on either vehicle. The only CkEngine light I've ever had on my Toyota products is on a '01 Camry that is my daily driver, and it was because of dirty injectors from to many in town miles and running strictly regular unleaded. It has 86K+ on it and that occured a couple or four years back. I bought a Actron CP9185 scan tool and finally figured out the injectors were the cause. I used Slick 50 injector cleaner, and I like that stuff. The way it's used is to run the auto till it's almost out of gas, add the product into the tank then drive it for ten minutes; fill the tank and drive it and the darn stuff WORKS. Have never had a CEL on the Avy or Tundra that I owned, and probably never will. With over 95K on three Toyota vehicles and not one misfire, except the Actron scan tool thought that the Camry had one; they use a distributor-less twin coil wasted spark ignition system, like some of the old Ford engines it thought so. Now with the GS430 I run 60% 88 octane and 40% 90-91 octane 10% eithol gas in all three and the GS430 doesn't have the pickup that it would running 100% 91 octane; but I'm not a racer either. Now I DO, BUST the speed limit on occasion; had it to over 130 night before last I don't do that in traffic and only on rare occasions. And it runs smooooooth and quick. You really have to watch yourself in town. But I've got into the habit of running on the cruise control on the long in town streets. Now to set the record straight the ZMax that I was referring to in my original post is the Oil Treatment and I have run the Gas Treatment of the ZMax product in the Tundra and have never had any problems with that product either causing a misfire....... . So I would definitely reco- mmend their products as an additive to the oil and gas for anyone that wants, a cleaner running and longer lasting vehicle! Enough said? Al - KF5GKQ - Artesia,NM
  10. Stefan: I am not familiar with the two products that you mentioned, but I have been adding ZMax to the oil on my '03 Tundra SR5 since I bought it used in '07 with 17830 miles on the odometer. The old man in Roswell,NM almost drove the wheels off it before he traded it in for a RAV4 for his wife. hehe I also bought a second hand '04 Toyota Avalon XLS that had 50.7k on the odometer, I also used ZMax on a regular basis until I traded it off for a, 2006 Lexus GS430 that I now own. It had 63.6k on it's odometer. Even after being raised by a used car salesman that swore to find out the brand&weight of oil that the previous owner used, and stay with same oil; I changed the oil to Caster Oil GTX 5-30 and added ZMax to the oil at the first oil change. I have watched the car garage shows on TV and watched the ZMax demostrations that they put on. The ZMax actually penetrates into the aluminum or steel sleeve liners and stays in there so it will make the piston rings slide smoother. I am an ex-Navy diesel engine mechanic and I would help an engine to last longer. But most importantly be sure to always use the Toyota brand oil filter, they have a anti-drain back valving in the filter that keeps a full oil filter. It makes it a lot messer to change out, but then from the filter you have a consid- able amount of oil that goes right to oiling the main, rod, and camshaft bearing surfaces at startup. It doesn't have to wait for the oil pump to charge the system before it is dumping oil into the oil galleries on the main crankshaft bearings on up to rods bears and also the all important cam shaft bearing. The only other brand that has this feature is the Fram TuffGuard. But Toyota brand one is the best bet. But that again is just my opinion................
  11. Here's a thought, go to the Lexus website>My Lexus at the very top of the page; then go to Bluetooth> Launch the tool on the right side of the page. It will ask Phone Brand, Carrier, Model and then print out the Pairing Page,Transfer A Phone Number From Phone to Vehicle page. Print that. Then open the, Transfer a Phone Number From Vehicle Phonebook To Vehicle "1-Touch"; Print that also. Then open the Make A "1-Touch" Phone call From Vehicle, Print this page finally. Go to the vehicle with all of the pages of instructions, go to the nav unit open up the phone section and delete the phone that is already installed. Pick up the paperwork and get busy. If you want to find out something about a vehicle go to the manufacturer first. Most of them have a webpage by now and ask the folks that built it. 73s KF5GKQ and have a good day, week, month, and year!
  12. Nabil: I'm also a Toyota owner and UniChip out of Washington state makes a piggyback performance chip that should work on the Lexus V6 that's in your '06 GS300. They can also be custom programmed by a custom tuner some where in the Maryland area. The only ones that are listed on their site are for the GX and LX V8 models. And they can be uninstalled easily, so when you need to take it to the dealer to be worked on they won't complain. Good luck in your endeavors!
