  1. I'd be suspicious of someone who wants to change your motor mounts for $150. That's just seems too cheap. Take a look at parts.com, they sell the motor mounts for $90/each, and $31 for the tranny mount.
  2. I changed my transmission mount myself. I had the mount sitting in a closet for years, and I finally decided to just change it one day for the hell of it(but I was hoping that it would cure a vibration that I had -- I read that it might.). I'm not sure of any definitive way in which you can trace a vibration back to one mount or the other, but from what I read on this forum, it seems like the most common trouble sign of the transmission mount is the out of balance tire feel, and a bad motor mount will make make the engine shake and you can feel it in the cabin through the steering wheel. Your motor should not be shaking, perhaps, there might be some damage to the mounts that we cannot see. Does it feel like it's missing or is it running fine? What do they want to change the motor mounts? $600-$700? Here are my new and old transmission mounts: Is it motor oil or P/S fluid? Looks to be motor oil, unless someone put p/s fluid in your car instead of dexron.
  3. Motor mounts sound like a good starting point if the car is running strong. If you are thinking about tackling this yourself, here is a great thread to read before starting:http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...c=13030&hl= You'll probably want to change your transmission mount as well. It's cheaper (costs about $50) and easier (takes about 45 minutes) to change than the two motor mounts. My crushed transmission mount made my '99 have an out of balance tire feel at mid - highway speeds. The new mount fixed that vibration/shake.
  4. I agree. I forgot to change the crank seal when I changed the timing belt, tensioner, pulleys, water pump, etc. on my former '95 LS. It wasn't really leaking at the time, and I forgot to order the part, so we pressed on. What a mistake that was. Not long after that, I was back in there to change it and the cam seals. A leaky crank seal makes one hell of a mess on your car and driveway too. I hope Billy has better luck, but it looks like there is a fair amount of oil on the front of his engine in the pics, that upper oil pan is actually silver and not black when it's not covered in oil. Here's my before and after...Before: After:
  5. Guys let's move on from the discussion about who owes whom an apology and get back to the issue at hand...
  6. That's what I thought you were referring to, just wanted to make sure! ;) Thanks!!
  7. Cool, good review! I really love the new CTS; I just wonder how spacious it is inside (for the driver, don't care about the back seat). I'm shocked that Lexus still requires you to go in to the dealer to change LPS/CBES when a $20,000 GM can change them from its Driver Information Center.
  8. When it comes time to reapply the sealant, is it necessary to wash the car with Dawn or something to remove all of the wax and sealant that's already on the car? I read that most manufacturers claim their sealants last 3-6 months, sound right?
  9. You traitor....I thought you were part of the core LS group here. :P We'll miss seeing those trademark posts with the heart next to them! LOL Good Luck with that cool new car!!! B) Any interior pics?
  10. Try this: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lighting/airbaglight.html
  11. Aww, Jordan, that sucks. Glad everyone was ok. Let us know what you replace it with! I'm biased, but I say go with the Gen 2.5! B)
  12. That is awesome, Steve! You are going to LOVE it. It seems like a lot of people are converting lately. I really want to buy a new base model MBP, but my current little MB is just fantastic, so I can't justify spending $1,200 on a new one. Get Office for Mac and flip4mac, and life will be good with the winblows world. Most of us at work are Mac people, and we've all been upgrading to Snow Leopard. B) It freed up 12GB on my MB. Was your rep able to beat the prices at Macmall.com? I bought mine from them, and they were cheaper than anyone (mostly from the lack of tax).
  13. When does the clunk happen? All speeds? Only when you turn? Hit pot holes?
  14. It's funny you post this since my grandmother just talked to me about this same thing, she just wanted a plain phone. She checked the local Cingular store and didn't see anything. She happened to stop in BestBuy, and she found a simple and nice Nokia flip phone for free. I've had the iPhone since '07, and I can't imagine having thing else. I LOVE it. They were kind of exclusive when they were first released, but now that they are only $100-$200, so I don't see it as a status symbol. I heard rumors of a $99 iPhone several months back, so I sold my old iPhone about a month and a half before the release of the 3GS and rumored $99 model. I sold my old iPhone on ebay, no problem. The bad part was getting stuck with a regular old phone for a month and a half while waiting for the 3GS release date. The plus side was that the sale of my old iPhone paid for the $220 3GS and then some (I sold it for $290). B) It turns out that I made the right move since the prices of the 2G 8GB iPhones dropped considerably in June. Some corporate people need a Blackberry, but my iPhone runs internet, email (gmail), and the the few apps that I have have flawlessly. i9, i68, etc. I've never heard of. The current model is the 3GS, and they also still sell the 3G. I've compared my 3GS to the 3G, and it is so much faster!
  15. Yep, but not in the city. I don't think any normal car will do well running 5 minute trips @ less than 35mph. I was! ;)
  16. That's going to be fun! I took my '95 on a couple road trips, and they were great. I think the '95 had about 290k miles on it when I drove it from New Orleans to Dearborn, MI with stops in St Louis and Chicago. I think I put 3k miles or so on that week; it was fun! I wouldn't dream of taking any other 290k mile car on that run. I'm dying to take my '99 on a roadtrip but haven't had the chance to yet. Have fun and don't let the fuzz catch you!!
  17. I live in a small town, so my city trips are very short (5-7 minutes) -- gives me about 13-14 mpg. I love the rims on the LX-S. B)
  18. I read this earlier, and it's still hilarious now! ROFLMAO
  19. Sure they right click! There are a couple different ways to do it:-Control + click -Two fingers on the touch pad + click -And the Apple Mighty Mouse right clicks as well. It appears to have one button, but it has sensors inside that let it know whether you click on the left part of the shell or the right part. I have one, it's a good mouse, but it tears through batteries. I loved that, "the computer is virtually unbreakable unless dropped or hit." LOL
  20. Thanks blacktop!! :D Haha, you did just fine DC!
  21. Nope, she's all stock. I drive the car a lot, and it gets maintained a lot. It runs really well. I have my tires pumped up a little since I hate that mushy feel of tires at 29psi, but I seriously doubt that makes for a huge difference when most gen2.5s get mileage like I do. I didn't have a problem beating the old EPA of 25mpg hwy, so the new numbers are comical to me. I've got the cruise set 10 or more over the 70mph limit with the a/c blasting while traversing rolling hills--definitely not hypermiling it, but I do LOVE cruise control. In the winter when the a/c is off, it's not hard to get over 30mpg. Good'ol eBay! After driving the LS for five years, the economical interior of the Civic became apparent. Then again it does retail for only $19k. In retrospect, for the money I could have purchased a used LS430 and kept my old car as well. But I learned my lesson in high school by buying someone's old used clunker. I think for the price point, the Civic's interior is excellent. And, it becomes even more apparent when you compare it to its competition. I can't wait for the 460s to come down to $25k. I've seen some online for $40k (with less than 40k miles), so it shouldn't be too much longer! There was a dealer in GA that used to regularly post Civics on ebay for about $1,200 off sticker, but when I just looked, I didn't see any of his listings...I'm sure he doesn't need any help selling Hondas when fuel efficiency is at the top of the list.I love the grey you picked. Now it's time to tint the windows, and it will look even better! B)
