  1. i had a power steering leak cuasing internal leaking of the fuild into the engine .. and then cuase the air control vavle to work properly.. i did cahnge my alternator just like you .. but its becuase ps fuild leaked into it... on neutral my rpm is at 2000, and wont go pass.. its a ari control vavle problem or mas air flow sensor .. just lean the control valve... took it to lexus they estimate 1300 for parts and labor... that is becuase the whole thing cost alot. when they only have to just clean the vavle... instead of cleaning it they wanna make sure it works.. so they jsut install a brand new vavle open your intake system, and look inside of that chamber, the air control valve is under the traction control box... if its black, dark brown.. or dirty... claen it up.. take the whole thing out and clean it
  2. long story short...i have ps leak since last month, figured its just holes so i replaced.. still leak... then alternator die, looked under and figured it was the pump that was leaking down into the alternator cuasing it to burn... so rebuild the alternator, and rebuilded the ps pump under all my labor for less then 100 for rebuild kits for both... Yet still leak... so checked agian, and find the power steering rack and pinion leaking too, fixed that at the shop for 600$... still leak!!!!!.. so i gave up!!!.. took it to dealer for 100$ check.. they say i have internal leak from the air control vavle... forcing the fuild inside the engine and gets burn there, therefore no external leak was found... he also said that is becuase p/s wasnt fix fast enoght cuasing the problem more serve..... he also said since the fuild is running into the engine, it damage the idle up control valve which stops rpm to act normally.. which is true.. my rpm would not go over 2000rpm under Neutral gear... they estimate 1,500 for idle up control valve and new power steering pump... i figured ..crap.. all that work for nothing?? so im not giving up.. im not gonna let dealer rob me.... so imma ask ppl dedicated to sc400 =) .. and i just wanna to let every1 with ps problem know... just fix the pump the minute it leaks before all this hassle happens... So ... i checked online and did some research.. to this point i assume, that air control vavle is inside power steering pump.. the best thing to do is to buy a pump to insure no more work... Cus those that worked on it know.. its some curcial long time work.. isnt it??... but can some1 confirm this??? is this a bright thing to do ... other than "take it to the dealer "????.. if it is... imma just buy the pump at autozone for 198$ ..and put it in myself... other than gettin charged 400$ NExt...IDle up control valve, .. did research... find out it just needs cleaning... the the good old Dealer wants 1100$ for it??? i assume they not just gonna clean it.. they gonna replace the whole thing... thats why it cost so much... but... to experts... is it only cleaning and thats it? i dun wanna take it out do it all over agian and it still leak... im gettin pretty frustrated with my sc400 i hope after this week when my ps pump gets in, i replace it, and then clean the idle up valve ..... so is THIS a good idea other than replacing it.. and where is the idle up valve, im assuming that its under the traction control box where the intake is connected it the engine... correct?????
  3. *sigh* okay the power steering problem agian.. this sucks,.. like every1 owning sc400's power steering seem to be a huge problem.. and this site had helped me fix it up... from changing tubes holes, to clambs and the lastest thing i did when the problem of leakage still exist was REBUILD the power steering pump..... after days of waiting for lexus rebuild kit to arrive, rebuilding that pump was a hassle since it hasnt been touch for a long time it is difficult to take out the parts, but i manage to get by... when all the parts was assembled and replaced... i thot that my misery was over, and that my car was ready for me to take it to school jan. 10th 2005.. BBBUUUUUUTTTTTTT FOR SOME FRIGGIN REASON. THE FUILD KEPT RUNIING OUT!!!!.... okay maybe its just the pump tryin to tkae in more fuild after i dran the system .. but i poured almost a bottle full ( 2 x refilling the resouvouir to the tip) .. AFTER rebuilding the ps... drove it .. refill ps.. then drove it agian.,.then refill agian.... 2 x!.... maybe i should keep pouring... but before that i need some advice becuase im afraid the fuild might go into engine components or the alternator so i want to hear from some1... the pump is rebuild, all the holes are checked, no leakage founded anywhere, looked in the engine,,, layed down and staired at the bottoom of the car for 5 mins,,, no leakage or any sign of driping. MY first question is... HOW MUCH POWER STEERING SHOULD I BE POURING IN AFTER THE SYSTEM HAD BEEN REBUILD????? if this is some other problem other than over 1 quart dextronIII fuild, then wat the heck is goin on NOw!!!????? Second question.... my system and head unit works fine, when the ps was leaking...tape, cd, am/fm amp sub all worked fine during the ps leakage but the heat doent work.. it just throw out cold air. after refilling the pump.. the heat works... so im guesing that power steering fuild needs to be full for heat to work...but still the entertainment system was fine... UNTIL AFTER i rebuild the pump... HEAT Works... SYSTem works... cd plays.. fm plays tape plays.... but VERY LOW SOUND..... i max out the volume, and the sound was very low...so basicly there are no sound at all when i rotate the volume buttom to middle and low.. and very low sound when the volume buttom is at max... WAT IS THE PROBLEM??????. PLEASE HELP ME OUT>>>> I THOT MY MISERY WAS OVER!!!!.... i need my car for school before jan 10th =T
  4. thanks, i'll try to locate it today, but do u know where the engine mount is also??
  5. i Got 92 sc400, something is wrong with my car when i press on the accelerator, asked an expert and he told me to replace transmission mounts, and since most mounts need to be replace around 60,000 miles, my car is at 130,000, can any1 help on the location of the engine and transmission mounts? thank
  6. Thanks every1... feel better pouring that tran fuild in now =)
  7. OKay,.... my power steering was leaking... fixed iit... but now i need to fill up the power steering.... i went to advance auto parts to ask for it... and the guy gives me... automatic transmision fuild.. in the back it says for toyota use... but i asked him... if its the same... he said yes... power steering and transmission fuild.. same thing for sc400... WEIRD!!!... is this true???/ im having my friend drive me to school 2morrow, becuase i refuse to mess up my car over some dudes mistake..... i need some advice before i pour that transmission fuild into my power steering...help!
  8. okay... my alternator just died also... after fixing up the pS.. it leaked into the alternator.. how horrible why i wouldnt check... now i need new ones, any1 have a good source gettin cheap alternators? i checked with pep boy, autozone, advance autoparst... they all cost over 220$... and i heard that battery have to be fully charge or a new one is needed.. why is that?
  9. yeah that'd be cool, rims and tires package would benice, let me know the price and get some pictures and we'll see wats up
  10. whats the difference in looks between 92 sc model, and the 95-97?... i mean i've seen the lastest SCs ...theres a major difference between those, but all the other sc look the same to me.. i only notice the front grill between the head lights, other than that any others?
  11. Gold would look nice on gray to...luxury look i guess
  12. the link that "92lex" gave was the absolute way to sovle power steering leak..problems.... most leaks come from wear out of the o-rings
  13. i dont know on 300.... if there is a power steering pump leak in the 400 (leak In the Pump itself) then... it would leak into the intake and have the engine sucking on power steering fuild and cause check engine and blue/white smoke behind exhuast... i dont see it leak into the alternator in the sc400 so im guessing its in a different location on 300
  14. Here are the picture .... location of the 2 possible power steering leaks.. other than simple cracks in rubber tubes..... pictures taken from the archive gallery.. and i have attach .. the modified pictures to locate the rings
  15. Power steering of the sc400 sucks ... seem to have most of the problems... i had to pour in 1 full bottle everytime i drive when i first got it..with a check engine light... its not that hard to fix if u have the equipment... i took it to a near by machanics he said he dont noe.. so i just tired fixing it myself.... come to find out.. that on the power steering pump.. theres 2 places with possible leakage due to wear out of the ring gasket that happens within 100k or above mile on sc400... all you have to do is replace the ring gaskets... if u can find me a picture on the gallery... of the power steering pump.. i can tell you where the 2 gasket rings located.. its easy to fix.. but gettin there is kinda hard, have to take out the intake, take out the engine cover on the passenger inorder to take out the cap and rotor covers. the power steernig pump is located just underneath the cap and rotors..
  16. i took off a remote start system on my ex honda prelude and it was the black/white that was on ign. im planing to install it on my sc400 soon also.
  17. Im from Va, Emissions is always a problem for me...i've failed emission many times on many cars. and all the time, i would just take it to another place, those guys want money so they'll fail you anyway they can so they somehow can make some money. I failed once on smoke then i just told the guy to fix it for me. he pour a bottle of 'smoke begone" and smoke still come out. but he passed me away. another way is to go talk to him and be his friend for a day, hell pass you. my dad took my sc to emssion test last week while i was inschool, it failed the smoke test, so he took it to another place and it passed... its all about where you go and wat kind of ppl are doing the test for you. find a friendly guy, if not tell the guy that failed you to fix it for you... he'll pass you once its done
  18. Can some1 send me pictures of their rim? sivler, black , white... watever.... wat is the best looking color rims on a gray sc400..???.. im thinking of gettin 17s on it but not sure wat color, some1 tell me wat is the best size....
  19. Sorry, New user, clcik the wrong thing, should've click new topic.. my uncle jsut gave me a sc400 92 last month cus he felt sorry that i wrecked my prelude and have no car for school. HoWever, he gave me the car with check engine light and tractioncontrol on, no side mirrors, broke lights and bulbs, in other words,, its not a perfect car... i asked him about his tune ups.. he said he never done them so i start with that first... come to find out.. lexus cars are a pain to open up when you tryin to do something with it..speacially 8 engines. just a tune up and opening up the cap and rotor box was a mess! but i manage to get it past... cleaned the engine vavle replaces the wires, plugs, the engine gaskets and also plug gaskets. done with all that then i foudn out there was a leak in the power steering pump and some how it got in the intake system. so the engine was stucking on power steering, so took me about 1 week to get the parts shipped, clean it up and everything. so bacilly today i reinstall everyting back together and started the car for like 10 seconds... becuase there was no power steering fluid.. had to get more... but the check Engine light is Off!!!.... Now only left is traction Control... I've check the other post about reseting ecu, and oxygen sensors but they all seem to be dealing with check engine.. any one had traction control only problme fixed? Ohh yeah my unlce bought the car 6 months ago at 120,000 miles for 3,000$ ....total cost of the order parts and lights come up to about $300 at my own labor, so bascily the car is value 3,300 is that a good deal?.. im thinking of sellin it for money. but the work i put into it... i thik im inlove with it. hahah.. some1 let me know if traction control even need to be fix... im just afraid its dangerous... or the back breaks hugs onto the disk, draging it or something i dunno. someone fill me in on that. thanks
