  1. Try Alameda Toyota(use to be Ron Goode). I had major service done to my RX300 last year and price is very competitive. http://www.alamedatoyota.net/ Check out their service special and you can use competitor's coupon too. Be sure they honor it before committing.
  2. Hi Folks! I got about 118K miles on my RX300. When I replaced my timing belt late at 2007. My TOyota dealer told me that I had about 40% brakes left front and rear. I drive a long commute, about 90% of it is freeway so a lot of pads left. The car seems to brake fine and no bad sound. A tire store told me couple weeks ago that its about time to change it and don't wait for it to make sound otherwise it'll damage the rotor. It sounds kind of fast(4months time) for the brake to wear down so fast. I wonder if they are taking me for a ride. I think I'll get another opinion just in case. If its just a simple pads and roter resurfacing, how much did you guys roughly spend at a non-Lexus dealer(perferably at a toyota dealer)? And would you have the tire store use non-OEM brake parts(worry about the reliability and quality of these parts)? Thanks for any insight.
  3. For some reason couple Autozone near my home doesn't do it. Don't know why. But during my researching, I did come across many articles on this CEL subject. So hopefully these tips other owners posted will help. I am going to do the trivial stuff first like clean the MAF, gas caps etc... and see if that works. Here's a link that may help someone in the future: http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/jan2004/techtips.htm
  4. I found out that Autozone rent the OBD2 reader for free, but have to leave a deposit. So I'll go toward that route and try it first. I'll check the basic troubleshooting stuff first and will see what happen.
  5. Did the warning eventually stayed off for good? Or did you have the problem again?
  6. Hi Folks! My engine light came on today too on my 2000 RX300 with 118K miles on it. How do you get the error codes? Can I get this information without taking it to the dealer or buy a tool? Perhaps an auto shop offers this kind of service and tell you the error codes? Thanks for any tip!
  7. Yeah, following this theory, I bought a digital tire guage and finally determined that the spare tire still didn't have enough air, it was off by about 8 psi. After adjustments, lights finally went off. Lesson to be learn here is that all tire guage is not created equal. The one I had was a cheapo one from a tire store. Thanks guys.
  8. That's right. 2004 model has it. BTW, I have an issue with the Tire Pressure light. Several weeks ago, it lighted up. So I make sure all the tires including the spare has more than 32 PSI. Well, today the darn light is coming on again. It stays on solid, NOT blinking. Per the manual, if it blinks, it indicates a problem. I took two analog tire guage and checked the air pressue. One shows 32PSI (after I refill more air just to be sure) and the other show about 38PSI. Anyone have this issue before? I have a feeling some sensor or something may be broken. Thanks for any insight.
  9. Hello, I am about to get my timing belt and water pump replace on 2000 RX300 with 108K miles on it. If you live in San Francisco bay area how much did you pay at a Toyota Dealer or Lexus dealer? If you can give recommendation, that would be nice. The lowest quote I got was for close to a $900 at a Toyota dealer. Thanks!
  10. Hi, What should the height be? I just got my TSB done and the ride is great, smooth. I just can't believe what I've been missing got the last 2 years. Is there anyway I can check it myself? Thanks!
  11. Hello, My dealer( in SF Bay area) finally got some (was told they received four) in stock and I just dropped mine off at the shop. Hopefully when I get my rig back today, it should be fix. So for those of you that are still waiting, I hope you'll get your parts soon. Good luck.
  12. Anyway know if the GX engine can handle E85 fuel without modification? It doesn't Toyota has any flexible fuel vehicles.
  13. Let us know how it goes. I am also experiencing it intermittently but not as bad as some people described it. I have an 04 model with 21K on it. Thanks.
  14. heck, now I don't know who to believe but since the majority of you guys agree that it is non-interference, I believe you. Can anyone tell me what you guys mean by interference and non-interference? I now have the understanding that if you have a non-interference engine, if the belt breaks, it would not harm you engine or any parts interacting with it. To get it running again, just replace the timing belt. Right? little confuse.
  15. Problem solved. Dealer tightened the mirror with no charge.
  16. Hi everyone, I have a rear view mirror that's loosed, not sure how it got the way, but it is rattling. My RX is a 2000 model which does not have that fancy rear-view mirror(the kind that adjust the tint/darkness level). Anyway know how to remove it? I am not sure if I can repair it or have to buy a new one. Thanks in advance for any idea you folks have.
  17. The othe 2 screws are located in the back and its hidden. Try a flash light to get a better look. You can't miss it.
  18. Although I don't think I experience this but can I take it to the dealer and have them implment this TSB on my GX anyway? I know someone may say this. How can we fix something that's not broken? In other words, we should be able to change the part before it can potentially be a problem. Does it make sense? Or am I far off in left field?
  19. Anyone know the exact location of the drain plug? Any tricks involve in lossening it and change the fluid? I just want to get a feel if this is something that I can do DIY myself. Thanks!
  20. I have been averaging around 18 to 19, combination of freeway and city even while trying to be light on the gas pedal.
  21. May be you can try to look for a replacement from a automative recycling yard. You'll be amaze to find out what kind of things you may find. My guess is that the DVD system is also on other Lexus models as well.
  22. With 39K on it,it already need new rotors and brakes? Is it too early for that? Mine has 80K and still don't need new brakes yet. Just curious as to why it worn so quickly. Only thing I could think of is that the previous owner drive the car pretty hard.
  23. TunedRC, is the front differential drain plug easy to find? I have no clue where it is? Is it obvious to spot? Keep in mind I have the FWD version. thanks!
  24. key switched on, car in park, press the set button and the number you want to save, keep pressed until you hear the beep. there is one MPG that fluxuates as your drive and the other that records the "real" data. I avg 17 MPG 50% highway, 50%in city. ← I think mine always gets stuck in one number so I never pay attention to it. I thought it was suppose to fluctuate.
