  1. It's smooth1's car. You can tell by the fact that he posted it and says so. He's a LOC moderator. Reading the thread from post 1 on through would give some good info. :D
  2. Excellent post insurance bartkat
  3. A little Rustoleum aluminum paint matches the Lexus paint pretty well after smoothing the scratch. *Disclaimer* To nitpickers and mod bashers: Not pushing a particular brand, but this is the product I have used and it works.
  4. Yeah for sure you need to remove the mat from underneath. That is what is causing the problem. Every car I have owned and even the rubber all weather mats from Lexus I got came with instructions that stated to remove any other mats first or else the mat could get shoved up to the gas pedal. Lexus has already done something but YOU need to be careful and read the instructions. Some folks just don't read instructions. People come here and ask questions that are quite plainly answered in the owner's manual. Then we put the manual as a sticky and still need to refer folks to the top of the page. At work when we got something new, I'd read the instructions and figure it out. Some others would just stand and look at a new piece of equipment so I'd give them informal training. It's just human nature I guess.
  5. But that would not be a problem unique to Toyota. Either the gov put lots of pressure on Toyota because of the family that was killed in the Lexus crash, or Toyota does believe that there is somthing about the design that makes them more prone to riding over the gas pedal. My other car is a Honda, and my prior car was an Acura. Honda doesn't use chintzy plastic hooks like in my IS that feel like they are about to come loose from the carpet to hold their mats in place--they use metal ones that are much more secure. Maybe this is the problem? Some pressures and perhaps some PR reaction from Toyota. I think also the regular mats can be improperly put in without engaging the hooks or maybe having the hooks turned backwards.
  6. If you're talking about the state trooper, has any definitive cause been decided on that?
  7. Some people are idiots. NHTSA and Toyota have to try to protect them from themselves. Even if all weather mats have grommets they aren't gong to go in the hooks if you put them on top of the carpet mats. :(
  8. The carpet mats are held in place by hooks. As I understand it the accessory mats that to over those are not held down. There have been valid reports of those sliding and mashing the accelerator resulting in unintended acceleration. It's also been reported in other Lexus models. If it were me, I'd remove them.
  9. The Continental Extreme Contacts I got are much quieter than the original Dunlops were. I think the noise ratings on Tire Rack are pretty reliable.
  10. This should help. http://my.is/forums/f68/is300-rear-bumper-removal-341081/ Also you can go to the top of this page and download the entire tech manual for IS300 http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=44847
  11. I don't know the vibration problem but I expect the flat spotted or cupped tire was at the same corner as the totally bad shock?
  12. Maybe these PDF's will help. comb._meter_circuit.pdf comb._meter_components.pdf comb._meter_dissasembly.pdf combination_system_location.pdf comb._meter_inspection.pdf
  13. I ran all seasons on the rear with stock tires on the front for a couple of thousand miles with no problems. As long as the tire ratings are the same, should be ok. I had a ruined rear tire and replaced both. Then I waited to replace the fronts since they were still in good shape.
  14. that sucks considering excessive brake dust comes from over wearing the brake pads, so worn brakes is part of the problem... Maybe though another dealer might do it for you in order to get your future service business. It might be worth a try.
  15. I don't think the program will replace the pads if they are worn below a certain thickness.
  16. yeah, I'm talking about the plastic guard...sorry I don't know the technical names of the parts. Thanks for your help guys. Right now I'm holding it together with dental floss...they call me macgyver jr. Yeah, mine fell off twice so replaced it with a black nylon zip tie and I haven't had a problem since. You're such a purist. LOL!! Hey, it works for me...what can I say....... :P Beats baling wire. You don't even need pliers.
  17. Ebay is correct. Type something like, Phillips Crystal Vision 4300k I am currently looking for some really yellow ones like from the last generation IS. I got precut yellow overlays for mine and they look great. Much easier and better looking than bulbs IMHO. I have the GT Yellow. http://www.headlightarmor.com/06-10-lexus-...ection-kit.aspx
  18. Hi Bartkat, what do you feel about swapping Potenza RE 92 (oe) with Potenza re960as pole position tires. they are 1/2 the cost. I really don't have experience with those two tire types. I have had good luck with Fuzions for a lower priced performance tire on my IS300. I put Continental Extreme Contacts on my IS350 and I like them very much. They are all season, but handle well and have a high treadwear rating.
  19. I have a 2006 IS350 that I bought prior to the model introduction. The dealer is 40 miles away. When I had TSB's done I just dropped it of, any time of day, and they gave me a loaner, either an ES or a RX for free. I then picked up my car at my leisure, a day or two later, whenever I had time to go there. I got a CEL over the weekend and took the car to the dealer today. They took care of it and I was in and out in an hour, having had premium coffee and muffins and watched the big screen TV in the cozy waiting area. You might want the dealer to pull up the service records to show that all the TSB's have been done. There were several fixes done to the IS 350's, nothing serious, but they should have been done.

  21. Ebay.
  22. Lexus has the F-Sport line of accessory add on's for your vehicle. Brakes, exhaust, suspension, cold air intake etc. Kinda pricey though. You can Email me if you want more info on them. We have posted here and it's available on Lexus.com and sewell lexus.
  23. If if it's expanding fasteners you can find an assortment at any NAPA parts store.
  24. I think back in 05 we measured our new cars bumper height at the tailpipe cutout and found maybe 1/4 to 3/8 difference sided to side.
  25. We knew that already. If someone really wants to fool the temp sensor just get a 50 cent resistor of your choice. :D
