  2. Bartkat, do you know any rationale that makes Lexus set it in the way it's aiming so short? If I have to turn it off to have a better view of the road ahead then IT'S USELESS. I have no idea. My halogen lights were too low even when i got the car and that's why I learned how to adjust them. I kinda think the low aim really isn't related to the adaptive lights but they may set them all low from the factory.
  3. The OP was that the headlights were pointing too low. It doesn't matter whether adaptive or not, they can be adjusted to the proper level on the vertical axis. As for turning, I know a person who travels on a road with lots of tight turns and switchbacks. She complained that the lights often pointed off in the trees because of the tight turns. I told her how to turn the feature off and she was happy with that.
  4. I'm not sure what documentation you expect me to have. It was a friend of a friend who crashed her car. I would post more photos, but that would reveal the license plates of the car and also quite possibly the location of the incident, which are two items that I do not wish to reveal at this point. We do have a case of hearsay--I'm not saying I don't doubt her story, I was just wondering if it is a common issue or not (apparently not, since no one else has ever heard of a case like this with the IS250/350 on this board).Let me ask my friend tomorrow if it's okay to post the rest of the photos. [EDIT]Actually, I found one that doesn't show the license plates. That's what I mean, as it's a friend of a friend story. As SK said, aftermath pics are just going to show a wrecked car, etc. Documentation would be a police report or maybe a news report. Personally I can see some discussion, which we already have, but not an "invesigation". I just don't think we should be promulgating the idea that there is some problem with these vehicles when there isn't. If there are any reports they aren't to be found here. My reasoning is that right now if you do a google search on "sudden acceleration lexus" this thread is the third item that pops up. Most people might see the header and never read what's in the thread. I think everyone understands what I mean by that. Do you own lots of Toyota stock or something?Anyhow, my personal theory is that she was either wearing high heels and somehow pushed the gas, or perhaps the floor mats somehow caused the throttle pedal to stick. The wording of the thread title and the use of words in your posts is what rang my alarm bells. And no I don't own Toyota stock. I'm just concerned about this forum starting or adding to some internet sudden acceleration myth. I guess you would google it if you really wanted to research it. Then you'd have come up with the ES floor mat problems and the IS250 floor mat incident.

  6. The rear tires might spin a little, but traction control would kick in and the motor would go into semi stall. You can't burn tires unless you turn trac off manually. Try brake torquing on any first or second gen IS and you'll see. BTW: What we have here is hearsay. I would like to see documentation of this incident posted here within the next 24 hours. I don't think we are in the business of rumor or hearsay mongering here.

  8. Could be lots of things. The way I found my noise was to put the front of car on jack stands and then move the suspension up and down with a hydraulic jack while listening for the clunk. It turned out the bracket that holds the sway bar busing was loose where it bolts to the frame.

  16. It varies some based on the outside temp, which can be affected by vehicle speed and the sun sensor all working with the inside temperature sensor. I usually just flip the temp setting up or down a degree or two to make it do what I want. I usually keep the back seat vents closed too since nobody rides back there.

  19. The problem is that you take offense when questioned or worse yet corrected (as a member). Then you proceed to either close the thread or distribute warnings (as a moderator). It won't be a problem for you for the next 30 days.
  20. Gas with higher octane than an engine needs (for its manufacturer-determined compression ratio, timing, boost in turbo and supercharged engines, etc.) does not improve performance. In fact, because the higher octane fuel is less explosive, it will actually perform slightly worse. To maximize performance and to minimize cost, one should use the lowest grade of gas possible, without knocking or engaging the anti-knock functions of the engines. Since modern engines won't knock enough to hear (precisely because of the anti knock circuit kicking-in before audible knocking occurs), one can only follow the manufacturer's recommendation and assume that grade of gas is working properly. Putting 100+ octane aviation fuel in one's IS won't improve performance and will only drain the wallet faster. What does any of that have to do with what I said?
  21. 91 or 93 octane name brand gas all has additives to help keep engine parts clean. I just stay away from off brand gas and any gas containing ethanol.
  22. So you messed it up and expected the dealer to take care of it? Sounds to me like the two shops that didn't find a problem are the ones that are wrong. If you put higher than normal wattage bulbs, chances are something is damaged.
  23. They may still cover it either on brake dust or brake noise complaint.
