Hey ShadyJC. I just wanted to get back to you to let you know I finally got the bulbs in. My local Lexus dealer was going to charge me $85.00 for labor. I already paid him over $1100.00 for a 30K service and new rear brakes and rotors. I felt he got enough out of me.
You were right. I was able to lift the battery up and even slide it towards the radiator which gave me plenty of room. These H1ST SilverStars are very nice. Not quite Xenon, but definitely nicer than stock. I think I'll also give these bulbs a shot in my fog lamps. Thanks, again.
Glad to hear it gtom61, the fog replacement is pretty easy (nothing to move out of the way), just gotta get down there, should be no more than 10-min or so to get to both sides.
The high beam/DRLs are also worth replacing, I got a generic 6000K bulb off eBay and it works well. I also replaced my corner parking lights (that was a PITA to get to) but have since gone back to stock.

dcfish, I'm interested as well, but this board won't let me send PM or email... can you give me details at "shadyjc@charter.net". Thanks.

Hi. I'm new here and just picked up a 2001 LX470 a few months back for my wife with only 20K on it. I purchased the Sylvanias (H1ST) and want to install them over the weekend. I just looked under the hood and had a few questions: on the driver's side, do I need to remove the battery first? and as far as adjusting the height, i see on the passenger side, there's a long screw that I think is for adjusting that has a phillips head. is that what it's for? and where do I find the adjustment for the driver's side? I called the dealer and they said to bring it in and I couldn't find the answers in the manual. I'd love to do this myself. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
gtom61, i've been able to get to all the bulbs on the driver side without actually removing and disconnecting the battery. If you unbolt the tie-down clamp you can lift and slide the battery back far enough to get your hand in there to get to the bulbs. Just unscrew the cap and pop out the bulb. Remember to pick up some gloves from Home Depot or a drug store so you don't touch the bulbs!
I did not have to height adjust after I replaced with silverstars, since you are just doing a bulb replacement, your headlight is still pointing in the same place.

I had wished that they offered the satilite radio feature, built in, on my 2004 LX470. The Lexus people said maybe next year?
You mean like a SAT button to be integrated into the factory HU? You know, it's a good idea but I think the potential downfall is that some manufacturers will choose sides and you will be SOL if you want to go with the "other" provider... and that will unfortunately turn into a deciding factor when choosing your future car (see the announcement from Ford yesterday to go exclusively Sirius).
One very nice thing about my Infiniti is that the Sat integration can go either XM or Sirius, you just have to buy a different kit. IMO, if car manufacturers really wanted the best for consumers they would (1) make Satellite integration carrier-agnostic, (2) provide MP3 capablity on CD changers and (3) provide an AUX input for everything else.

To get to the corner bulb in my LX I had to partially remove a protective cover in the wheelwell.

This is still an ongoing thread?
I'm in Information Technology with a specific focus on Information Security.
I work for one of the big-3 TV networks (the one that begins with "N"), that also owns 7 cable channels, 24 local TV stations across the country, runs a movie studio and operates theme parks in Los Angeles and Orlando.

slikvik, double-din size navigation options there is a Kenwood Excelon (sp?) and an Eclipse AVN series... Personally I am seriously looking at the Eclipse AVN2454 for my 2001 LX, but have to clear it with my "finance manager" first. :whistles:

You should be able to reach all bulbs from the engine compartment without removing anything
Don't know if the 450 is different than my 470 but to get to the parking light I had to take off the protective cover in the wheel well.... all others (hi/lo/fog/turn) are accessible pretty easily.

lx470man, I looked and did not have the specific portion of the service manual that shows how to change out the dash bulbs. Sorry.

The D light on my odometer went out and I was wondering how i get that fixed?
I am out of warrenty, so i dont want to take to the dealer cause they like raping me.
What year is your LX, I may have this section of the service manual on my computer at home, I'll check tonight. I think you have to take apart the dash though, the bulbs are behind the instrument guages.

Sorry to add onto an old post, I hear something in my 2001 LX as well - mine sounds like its coming from the CD changer.

installation is pretty much DIY. there are several brands of hitches -- they're all pretty much the same. If you only want something for bikes and stuff like that, why not get something like the 2" receiver adapter shown here:
http://sleeoffroad.com/products/products_r...umpers_main.htm
It should fit the 4 holes in your rear bumper (it's under the plastic cap) in the center of the bumper.
Thanks for the tip! I'll take a look for the holes in the bumper and give them a call, description mentions the LC FZJ80, I think mine is a 100?
...still learning the proper terminology for this platform

I have a 2001 as well and would like to add an aftermarket hitch, just for the purpose of adding a bike rack for an occasional trip (won't be towing a boat or horse trailer or anything like that)... is this a DIY install? Any particular brand that anyone has had any positive or negative experiences with?

These velcro straps are worthless. They don't hold the folded third row chairs up anymore. I wonder if theyre covered by warranty. I'm tired of hearing the chairs bounce around back there.
After having my LX for 4 years and never having had a single person sit in them I think I'm ready to take them out and gain back the trunk space!

Hi all, new here, sorry for a late reply to this but I did the Sylvania Silverstar upgrade to my 2001 LX about 2-3 months ago and am pleased with the results. Some of the earlier comments about HIDs being way brighter are right on - but then again for $35 it's a very worthwhile upgrade.
Here's a side-by-side mid-install pic with the Sylvania upgrade on the passenger side, stock on the driver side. I replaced the low beams and the fog lights (the low beams are H1ST and the fogs are H3ST).
I don't know if this is kosher over here but here's a thread about the same topic on another forum: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...threadid=133223

What does it sound like? I was thinking about putting the Borla onto my LX.
