  1. Traded my 2000 GS300 for a 2013 GS350 last spring. Great car, but engine seems unusually noisy at idle and in the first few gears. Got rid of those Dunlop tires and that made the ride much quieter and smoother but still wondering about engine. Runs fine but just doesn't sound like it belongs in a 65K car.] Any comments?
  2. RE: 2000 GS 300 Need to remove starter and looks like, from underneath the car, the usual pain in the #$# job by the looks of it. Does anyone have the removal/install procedures for this job? Thanks in advance.
  3. You, sir, are a steely eyed Lexus genius ! Thanks, exactly the same.
  4. I was attempting to get at the fuel tank in my 2000 GS300. Per other threads I read, the bottom bench came out as described. As you can imagine, they dont come out easily in older vehicles. Got it out, removed the lower 4 bolts on the vertical back of bench, but now I am stuck. It is loose except up top. I was assuming, it was attached by two hangers, but I cannot seem to be able to push it up to remove it. Is it attached differently or am I doing something wrong? I dont want to break it but I have exerted quite a but of upward pressure while wiggling it back an forth to break it loose. No luck so far. A little help here.

  6. Thanks for the information. Sorry about not being clear on the year and model. Just careless on my part. 2000 GS300
  7. noticed recently that my car runs empty just as soon as the low fuel indicator comes on. The gage shows roughly a but under 1/8th full. Is there a sender unit at the fuel tank that might be bad or should I be looking at the gage.
  8. If you have a pioneer radio in it, your right, they are junk for the cost Lexus charges. Same thing happened to my 2000 gs300 in 2002 just out of warranty. Someone from this site gave me the same instructions to buy the lcd board from Pioneer (99 bucks at the time). It was but it was a very easy job to remove the radio and replace the board. Apparently the problem was at the electrical ribbon connection . Mine has worked perfectly ever since. If you decide to replace it yourself, I can dig up the instructions for removal. The middle console trim is a bit tricky unless you know how it comes out. Takes less than a half hour to pull out.
  9. Planning to replace my front struts on my 2000 GS300. Called Lexus and they want $600 just in Labor ! Am I missing something or is this a standard strut job ? I am now going to do the job myself (I have replaced struts on other vehicles) and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. A pdf from the manual would be helpful as well.
  10. Dont worry. lost my shield about six months ago and no problems. Just dont park it in a pile of leaves and you should be ok. Strange thing. unfortunately, Lexus makes this shield out of carbon steel and uses a carbon steel hose clamp on the front end of the converter to hold it. Once the clamp rusts through, it falls off. After I noticed a rattling and found the clamp broken, the rest fell off on my way to buy a new hose clamp. I'll be damned if I am going to replace a perfectly good converter due to a missing converter shield.
  11. I have an 00 with 110K on it. The only real thing you will spend money on is the timing belt at suggested 90K. I went to 100 and the belt looked like it could go for at least another 25k. That will cost you around 800-900 bucks since they replace the water pump as well as the timing belt. (Have to take the pump off to get to the belt.) If you do it yourself, the pump is around 230 and the belt is 30.
  12. I am looking for an exploded parts diagram for the exhaust system on my 2000 GS300. Anyone have or know where I can reference it. Thanks in advance.
  13. FYI : Any local general aviation airport sells 100LL 100 octane low lead. Costs 4-5 bucks per gal. It will stain your injectors blue from the dye in it. FYI: Octane does absolutely nothing to clean injectors. This is just more gasoline hooey. If you want to learn about petroleum, go to the American Petroleum Institute's website. There you will find an area that dispells most of the myths of gasoline, octane and additives. FYI: I have been running 89 octane in my 00 GS300 for years. Amazingly, I still get around 20 in town and 25-26 hwy. For the six cylinder, I can't detect any difference in performance either. I used to be fooled by the idea that higher octane was better for the car, but wised up after studying the subject. Check the API site and see the light. Hope this helps some of you save money.
  14. Yea please post the instructions. I didn't know you could fix it to spring open. I guess I just assumed it only unlocked it.
