  1. My drivers door did that too. I took the door panels off and had to fabricate a "O" shaped clip that broke and attach it to a rod that the handles push down on to open the door latch. It sounds tough but it's not that hard. It took me and friend about 2 hrs of fiddling about to make it work. I was so happy we figured it out!
  2. You are completely right. I took it back to my mechanic and he looked at it and said it was perfectly timed. He said maybe the sensors are broken. I quick trip to the Lexus dealer later, they said it was the timing and timed it right for me. The service manager said my car was running like a top and didn't need any other attention. he said, come back in 150,000 for another belt and water pump. At least I didn't buy my parts from them, YIKES. I took my car back to the original mechanic and they gave me a bunch of brake job and alignment coupons. Now the car runs even better than when I first bought it.
  3. Thanks, I thought there might be a hidden obstacle. I'll just take my time and try not the bend the panels to much. Overnightautoparts.com sells a pair for the sc400 for only $71 and it includes free shipping if anyone is thinking about doing the same thing. After I get them and install them, I'll post a reply with pics to help others. Have a good weekend!
  4. My driver's seatbelt is getting frayed on my 92 SC400 and may not be good in a crash. I'd like to replace both just to make them match but I'm not sure where to start. Maybe one of you guys have done it before and can point me in the right direction. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
  5. I went 150 miles an hour in Arizona, very early in the morning with no traffic in sight. Car was smooth but there was some wind sounds from the sunroof. It was the fastest I have ever been in a car in my life. Not bad for a 92 SC400.
  6. That trick worked on my 92 SC400 as well, both on the climate control display and on the right side of the instrument cluster! I learned it valet parking cars, we would lightly smack display panels and get huge tips for fixing dashboard lights! I had a 1986 Celica GTS and it worked on that car too. GREAT TRICK
  7. I'm starting to think it may be the spark plugs for my problem. I bought some NGK iridiums on ebay and had the mechanic put them in when he did the water pump and timing belt. Maybe one is mis-gapped or something. For the MAF, I would check your code that the computer puts out. I have a K&N cone type filter and my air flow meter has been fine.
  8. Looks like the bulb is toast but search the threads on the website for more info on and how to go about replacing it. I wouldn't know where to even start.
  9. nope, the exhaust smells normal. I still haven't figured out the problem...
  10. firmly slap the top of your instrument cluster a couple of times, sometimes when the bulbs get a little shake they light up again. Don't go too far and beat it too hard though. It worked on mine and also on my climate control display!
  11. Hi Folks, timing belt blew while driving, replaced water pump and belt but engine is running rough while accelerating even though timing is bang on. I ran the codes and came up with code 13. Some charts say distributor circuit and some say rpm sensor. Is that the camshaft position sensor? It may have been damaged due to the damaged belt flipping around. Any code 13 help will be appreciated!
  12. I blew my water pump and belt while driving my super 1992 SC400 with 93,000 miles, got it towed to a good shop and had both replaced. Now after all that the car runs great but both the trac control and engine warning lights are on. How do I tell the car that it's okay now, turn the lights off? I've read some past threads on the issue but they seem to tied in to other car problems. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  13. 92 SC400 and the seats warm up very fast and stay toasty :P
  14. give the top of your instrument cluster a good smack, quick and fast, almost a hard tap. Often the bulbs will come back on. Worked on my SC and it still is fine. Also worked on the right side of my climate control display. I just tapped it with my finger covered by a shop towel and after about 6 taps the display lit up again, no joke. C-ya and good luck.
  15. Oh just another note, it only took 3 tanks of gas to drive from Vancouver, Canada (2.5 hrs North of Seattle) to San Diego! Talk about good gas mileage on the hwy!
