  1. Well just to add my 2 cents I use a Napa Gold 1515 and it allows me to use a full 7 quarts on refill and I still chg the oil every 3,000. I take care of my baby..
  2. I've seen the LSD thru TRD where'd you get the lower gears from, the 3.73 would improve over what I think the stock was around 3.26 since I went to 18's with 275/35 in the rear.. Thanx
  3. New Big 400 Which LSD did you use and how much trbl was it to install. I'm looking at the NOS wet system for mine also too just need to get off the fence and try and get it in the car but am looking into aux systems to monitor exhaust gases and shut down in lean conditions if encountered..
  4. I might like to add that part of your problem is your 19" wheels. I too have a gs400 a 98 with the K&N and a few other mods but when I went from the stock 17"s to 18"s I noticed a big difference in off line accel and braking, it's because of the larger diameter of the wheels and the added unsprung weight, try putting your stockers back on the rear and see how much of a difference it makes as the smaller diameter will lower the final drive ratio a bit. I know on my car quite a bit of the snap came back with the smaller t/w combo..Give it a try it's cheap..

In looking thru my factory service manual it looks like there are 3 o2 sensors on the ex manifold, from the picture it looks like you want the one closest to the head on the ex manifold and closest to the front of the motor. the picture sort of shows that the ex manifold is split between the front 3 cyclinders and the rear 3, again you want the one closest to the front of the car. The one located lower on the front half is Bank 1 Sensor 2 and the one one the rear portion(the rear 3 cyclinders) of the ex manifold is Bank 2 Sensor 1..Hope this helps..I have a 98 gs400 so I can't look under my hood to help ya but the factory manual Vol 2 pg EC-8 is where I found the diagram
  6. I too have been searching for an LSD for my GS. From what I understand the Supra diff takes some mods to work and the plus also being a lower final drive of 3.76 vs stock which I think is in the 3.20 range. This past July while at the drifting competition at Infineon/Sears Point I spoke with a Gerald at Overboost.com and they can get a locking diff and your can specifiy what % of lock you want all the way too 100% like a detroit locker but you get that low speed turn chirp. This diff uses your stock gears so some disassemby and reassembly is required, I'm still waiting to see if it takes shims and stuff to set up the R/P in the diff or not.   7. You say you replaced the springs, did you happen to replace the shocks also. If not then probably what is happening is that the shock is being over powered by the spring and allowing the car to sort of pogo or move in a vertical plane more quickly as the shock tries slow down the movment of the car. A stiffer shock with more compression and especially more rebound damping should cure your problem. I have a somewhat similar problem but its with control over small dips and stuff on the freeway at high speeds(over 100). I'm running Intraxx springs and sway bars with KYB shocks on my GS but am thinking of going to tein coilovers and have yet to decide on the FLEX or the Super Street. Hope this helps ya out some..
  8. lex01 Well in my opinion it could be set based on your driving requirements, I see you live in Hawaii and have both good and bad roads in places, is your car a daily driver or weekend warrior. You can change it's handling feel with tire pressure. So if your looking for a cushy ride ( which I suspect your not with 19"s proabably 245/35 front and a 275or 285/30 rear ) stay in the 32-34 range for front and rear this will give you a fair ride and help keep big pot holes from getting to your rim edge, if you want to play with it take the fronts up in the 40-46 range and see how you like the improved inital turn in response, yeah the rides degraded a bit but hey lifes full of trade offs, then take the rears up to say 2 to 3 lbs above and below and see what you think of the feel on your favorite stretch of road. Above should give you a good inital feel but the higher you go the more looser or overstreer feel you'll get same thing if you go too far down.. I run 18x8.5F 9.5R with Michelin Pilot Sport ps2's 245/40 275/35 and run 46/42 F/R but it's more the weekend warrior and not my daily driver.
  9. If your getting alot of arcing when you hook up the battery cable then yes there is something causing an extreme amount of current flow in the system. Do you have and know how to use a VOM meter. What I would do is remove all of the fuse's and check to see if they are all the correct amperage, then with ALL fuse's removed see if you get the arcing when you hook the battery cable back up. If you don't then hook up the meter to look at amps/current draw and reinsert the fuse's one at a time and see if one cause's current to jump up excessivley then start looking out from there on that ckt to see what's attached and how the wiring runs thru the car. Hope this helps some and gives you a place to start.. DB

I was curious to see if anyone was considering going to the D1 GP drifting competition in July at Infineon/Sears point raceway and would be interested in meeting up with other Lexus owners before, during or after the event. Newbig400 if you read this I was wondering how your LSD install was going and Neo I wouldn't mind meeting you up a getting to see your car in person, not to mention other memeber's GS's/Lexus's as I'm looking into to preping mine to compete in timed open road races in Nevada ( Silver State Classic if you want to look). Mine drops out warranty this month so hopefully I'll get my nitrious installed fairly soon..I'll put my e-mail addr in here so if anyone wants to contact me directly they can if the moderators let it thru..dlb56@sbcglobal.net
  11. Just to add my 2 cents. Without knowing ( and maybe the gs 300 guys can answer but the gs400 TSG cuts in at 149 ) but it seems a bit of a liability to put H rated tires on a car that can exceed that speed rating. Now I don't know how you drive your car or who you might let drive your car but it's something you should consider....
  12. Hey just as stated by the other members it's pretty easy. I use Mobil 1 but I use a oversized filter. I'm currently using a Napa Gold 1515 and it allows me to fill with a full 7 qts with it ending up a little less than 1/8" over full..Enjoy the ride.....
  13. You were correct in assuming that it would not allow you to down shift or to select 2nd gear in the manual mode because of having just started your car. It will wait until the car has warmed up a bit before it will allow you to select it and that's the reason for the bell when trying to select 2nd when cold..
  14. I'm using a Napa Gold #5151 on my GS400, because of its size I can fill it with a full 7qts and it ends up less than 1/8" over full on the dipstick. Been running oversize filters on most my of cars for years w/o trbl..
  15. 1sikgs, I noticied that you are in the bay area and I assume that it's SF Bay Area as I'm over on the coast. I was wondering why you are going with the 20" wheels and what type of driving you do with your car. I've got a 98 GS 400 with Intraxx springs and sway bars with KYB shocks, it lowered it a good 2" and still rides fairly well the only thing it needs are shocks with more rebound dampning in the rear to control some pitching in high speed corners..sorta wishing I went to the extra expense and went with the coilover setups and there seem to be a few choices for those too( Thinking about taking it to a couple of the open road race/timing events in Nevada this year) I'm running 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 ADR M Sports with Michelin Pilot ps2's 245/35 and 275/30. The 20's will be a really tall combo and as I found out will hurt your 0-60 times because of the change in the diameter in the wheel. I've got a 98 GS 400 with a few mods 1 being the K&N FIPK kit and it works great, no check engine light, improved throttle response, easy to install and yes if your father puts his foot into it he will definetly hear a difference. Depending on the age of your Dad ( I'm 48) well it will sound like taking the top off your old cars air cleaner and turning it upside down on the carb..

I got my ecu from Carson Toyota also 135.00 and have a 98 GS400 with susp and other mods, what I noticed after I installed it was it lost the on center sort of dartyness especially in high speed corners as it seems to have sort of slowed the initaial off center movement response a little bit and a slightly more weighted feel, personally I'm happy with the chg...On another note I replaced my D2R headlight bulbs with 8000k bulbs from HIDEXPRESS.com and am very pleased with the lighting now, when I first bought the car used 1 burnt out and the repl bulb was much yellower than the bulbs in it ( not alot just a slight diif I was told would chg with use) well it didn't and now I'm happy with these, they also make kits to chg HB and FOG lights to HID bulbs 399.00 a pair...
  18. Hate to tell you this FRAM is crap and their filters have been proven to be time and time again. The walmart brand filters are better than FRAM, just check the specs on the side of the box or do some research on the net, you'lll see. I belong to 2 other boards 300zx and Suzuki Hayabusa and we have seen coountless problems with FRAM FILTERS. Stick with stock. B) ← Hey turbogs300 just to let you know I'm changing to a WIX 51515 on my next oil chg just to try it out, Ive got 4 cars and have used frams for years w/o any trbl, one car 84 Supra bought new and leaned on( I use the PH8A on it too for the added oil/filter capacity) and I've got almost 300,000 on it and haven't had any major work and doesn't even burn enough oil to add between chgs of course I do maintain my cars pretty well and oh yeah GO BUSA

Mr Sypher I'm looking for tires/wheels for my 98 GS400 and was wondering if you knew what type/brand wheel is on the car with the orig win kit or the ones on the silver car with each post that's about half cut off. I'm thinking 19x8 or 9 for front and 19x10 rears with michelin ps2 rubber. any good suggestion??? dbgs400
  20. Just to let you know, I've got a 98GS400 and I do most of the servicing myself, I actually use a FRAM PH8A. If you go look at the base of a 3600,3614,43,8A they are all the same flange and gasket just a bigger element. With the PH8A I can fill it with a full 7 qt's and it's only about 1/8" over full. I've yet to have any trbl with this use but am looking to see if anyone else does this also and if they have had any trbl. I fill the filter 1/2 to 3/4 full before installing the new one to minimize dry startup while the filter is filling for the first time...
  21. I've got a 98 GS 400 and just purchased 8000K bulbs from hidexpress.com. they also have 6000K and 10000K bulbs and kits to chg your fog and high beams to the same type of bulb. Check em out!!!!
  22. I've got a 98 gs 400 that I purchased about a year ago. I service it mostly myself and was wondering if anyone else uses a fram PH8A on their GS's instead of the rec PH3614 or factory filter. By using it I can fill it with 7 qt's of oil ( I fill it about 3/4 full before installing it to avoid low oil pres while waiting for it to fill on startup)and it ends up about 1/8" above full on the dipstick. I'm slowly fixing it up and have Intraxx springs and bars with KYB shocks, TRD strut tower brace, L-Tuned steering ECU, Borla ex and K&N FIPK Kit. I was wondering if anyone could offer advise on which of the Nitrous system's seems to work best, as far as ease of installation and use on a stock motor/trans. PS anyone know, how hard is it to replace the rear diff with the LSD diff I've seen advertised for the GS..
