  1. It didn't work the first time because the resistor given was i'm sure of a low ohm value, and the car's computer re-learns after a short period of time. My new plan involves a switch that only allows a higher ohm resistor to be placed in line only during acceleration, which by wwest's explanation could possibly work.
  2. Wwest, i am re-visiting this idea and am thinking of trying something, but i want your opinion first before i take out the wire cutters and soldering iron. If i read correctly, you think this resistor thing could work if done as follows: -during normal driving, everything is left stock. -if seconds before acceleration, a 400ohm resistor could magically be placed in line. -and if after acceleration, the resistor magically disappeared going back to stock? I made some diagrams to illustrate a possible plan. first of all, i'm not sure if this is how the resistor would need to be placed. Where does it need to be placed? The first image just shows what everything looks like now stock, and a resistor and switch that i would be able to control in the cabin. The second diagram shows my new circuit. Tell me what you guys think! Could this really work?? would it increase HP and boost acceleration?
  3. I see this happen all the time. Usually i'm the one driving faster than everyone else having to wait for them to get out of the way. I find that if people see someone flying down the road in their rear-view mirror they get out of the way right away before they reach them. It's when they slow down on PURPOSE to force you to slow down, when this stuff happens. Everyone chooses to drive at a different rate. If you're content with driving 65, that's fine- just don't prevent someone else from going 85 if they choose to. Just get out of their way! I know many feel speeding is bad, but it's everyone's prerogatived. Don't be the hero and try to get them to slow down, because it won't happen. All you'll do is *BLEEP* them off and get them agitated.
  4. The color temp for the factory xenon's are 4300k. This is the brightest of all the color temps. As you increase to 6000k, the color appears more blue but less light output. Is your problem the sharp cutoff line created or just the light output? You won't get the light any brighter.
  5. Hey guys, anyone know where i could purchase the navigation screen for an 01-03 rx300? Mine took a tumble down the stairs and let's just say it's no longer functional... I've checked ebay with no avail, and i'm not gonna bother asking the dealer Thanks for all of your help!
  6. Wow, thanks for showing me those posts- they all said they wouldn't use it on paint! I'm glad i didn't get them now :)
  7. Has anyone heard of this towel called "Shamwow" that's supposedly super-absorbent and wont scratch the surface? It seems this would be a nice thing to dry the car with? What do you guys think? http://www.shamwow.com/
  8. I've been using our 03 rx300 to tow a boat from our house to the water (approx 80 miles round trip) and the car pulls it like it's nothing. Not sure of it's weight, but it's BIG. I just make sure to accelerate easy and leave a lot of room for braking and no problems so far. I agree with the last poster, watch the transmission fluid! The Rx300 transmissions are weak as it is.
  9. Thanks for the responses guys! It's been killing me, so i called the detailer's today and finally got the owner to tell me some of his secrets. He told me that they use 3M rubbing compounds, 3M hand glaze, the Collinite insulator wax (i already knew that :P ), Lane's super blue tire shine (has a significant sweet odor which i like), and Meguiar's shine? (he called it spray wax), and ozium (sp?) to get rid of odors. Well, he removed the scratches, shined it up, and got the horrible odor out! So it's been proven these products do work if applied properly :) Just in case you guys were wondering what products prove to work! The wife's on a business trip for the rest of the week, and i'm wondering how the wax is going to hold up with all of the bugs and bird poo on the road.
  10. "plastic modings around entertainment/Nav system" -I'm assuming you're talking about the silver plastic? Just use a damp cloth rag, or if it's just dusty, use a microfiber cloth to remove the dust. Don't use products you'd find in a store for "plastic" etc, for all they'll do is make the silver wear away and become too shiny. If you're talking about the upper dash area, you can also use a damp rag, for these new dash's don't need to be "conditioned" as the old ones used to be. Products like armoral etc will only make the dash shiny and looking aged. "Nav touch screen" -go to staples etc and look for LCD wipes. Gently wipe these over the screen and dry with a microfiber towel. "plastic(or rubber?) insulation around the doors" -i actually use tire shine for the rubber, and it seems to work fine and stay moist. "windows" -DO NOT USE WINDEX. i have found that all windex does is create more streaks and make matters worse. Just use a damp rag and dry with a clean rag (not a microfiber towel for it will leave thread pieces behind on the glass that are hard to remove). What you should really be concerned about is the leather. That's the part that constantly gets rubbed and can fade and become cracked over time if not taken care of properly. For leather, use a product called "Lexol leather conditioner", it comes in a brown spray bottle. i apply once a month, although other's say once a year for it can age the stitching... Just don't let it "soak" for hours and it'll be fine. I usually apply it using a rag lightly soaked with the lexol. This conditioner is not greasy or slippery like most. It's by far one of the best!
  11. The gauge cover plastic is VERY hard compared to many other plastics. It takes a lot to scratch them which also means it takes a lot to remove them. I've tried removing scratches on Lexus cluster lenses before to little to no avail, even with the best plastic compounds. Take a few pictures; some of the very minor ones may be removed with enough elbow grease. Just the smallest piece of dirt on a dry rag can create scratches on the tinted gauge cover plastic. The best way to clean it is with LCD cleaner wipes and a microfiber tower to dry. And as far as the dealer scratching your column, tell them about it, if they refuse to fix it (which i doubt considering they have insurance for that kind of stuff) then call corporate Lexus and they'll make sure it's fixed. Don't feel bad about having them fix it ;)
  12. Took the LS430 to a detailer today to have them "attempt" to take out a few of my wife's mistakes, with low expectations, but i was surprised! They couldn't remove all of the scratches and scuffs, especially the ones that went all the way through to the primer/metal but they removed many of the lighter ones! They took most of the stains out of the interior and got the coffee smell out as well. They wouldn't give me any of the names of their products, but i took a sneak and noticed they were using a wax called "Collinite insulator wax". All of their products seems to come in the same-looking kind of container, and most of their shines/cleaners are either blue or pink and are sprayed from a plain sprayer like what janitors use to clean the toilets. The guy finishing it off when i arrived said the wax he was using (it was in his hands at the time) is the best wax out there, and costs $40 a bottle? Has anyone ever heard of this wax before?
  13. No, because the wipers on the rx330/350 have the pivot-point on the actual windshield, whereas the rx300's arm is bent, and has its pivot-point on the metal. They wouldn't be direct replacements. Just take a look at the rears of both vehicles and you'll see what i mean.
  14. Well i put it on and it looks great! I wouldn't be able to tell the difference from OEM unless i had them next to each other. Took about 30mins to get on due to my lack of upper body strength. In case any others are interested, it's made by "Draw-tite" model number 41541. Ebay has them for ~$99 plus shipping.
  15. Doth the light gray and the ivory will darken over time and get a little shiny. There isn't transfer from jeans etc, it just gets "dirty" in color. Just use leather cleaner and conditioner every once and a while and it should be ok. The black leather just gets shiny over time (can't really get much darker...) I had the ivory leather when i had my 04 Rx330 and chose the light gray when i upgraded to my Rx350. I find the gray more appealing than the ivory after time.
  16. My aunt "accidently" put the lower profile tires on her 01 Rx300 but decided to keep them because of the improved handling. I took it for a ride and i found the steering very responsive and the overall ride much better with the smaller tires. Only negative is the speedo reads ~5mph higher and her odometer mileage higher than it really is.
  17. Thanks!!!!! I checked out that model number and noticed it's of the tubular design (not exactly appealing to me). It's made by a company called Draw-tite. I went on the website and they actually have 3 other models for the Rx300. See here: http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2001_Lexus_RX300.htm I need the 2" hitch Opening, so what about the 41541? Here, it's $156 with free shipping. (free ship over 150) This looks about what i want. EDIT: Thanks for your help guys, i purchased it! Thanks for all of your help!
  18. Is your hitch OEM or did you purchase it aftermarket? If it's OEM i'd be interested! Oh and i contacted a few junkyards in my area to no avail. I'm tempted to stop every Rx driver i see with one and ask if they don't use it
  19. I'm just looking for the frame that connects to the bottom of the car that you can attach a ball to. I looked on eBay but the ones available are after market which look horrible IMO compared to the OEM that considers the exhaust etc. I have attached a picture of a "similarly-looking" frame and an rx300 with the OEM one installed. Thanks!
  20. Anyone know where i could purchase a used OEM trailer hitch for an rx300? I don't need the wiring just the hitch. I'm not planning to tow anything too heavy, don't worry, i wouldn't trust the transmission Thanks for any suggestions! P.S. If any of you guys have the hitch and would be willing to part with it, i can make you an offer! i'm looking in the $110 range for a used OEM.
  21. So what do you suggest i do about this problem? Yesterday it didn't rain and the smell wasn't present. Today it rained and the smell was back! I ruled out the filter as the problem. Tonight i took the filter material out and ran it for a while and the smell was still as strong. And it's ONLY when i have it set to "outside circulation". Could this be a warranty thing? I'm still covered with my CPO warranty. Thanks!
  22. In case there are any Toyota Tacoma owners out there, here is something you may want to know about! For anyone who owns a 1995-2000 tacoma, toyota will buy your truck back from you for 150% of its retail Kelly Blue book value! It came to Toyota's attention that many of the tacoma's in these years were having major problems with their frames being rusted out. If you own one, take it to the toyota dealer and they'll expect it (it has to show at least "some" signs of rusting on the frame) and take the car for %150 of its value. So if you owned a 98, the KKB is 8k, so toyota will give you 12k cash! A co-worker shared this information with me so i thought i'd share it with you guys! Damn i wish i owned one.
  23. Can't you just disable the AC by not turning the AC button on? I haven't turned the AC button on since the Fall and still the problem occurs. And why is it only when it rains and set to "outside circulation"? If set to "inside circ" it doesn't create the smell. Id the problem was indeed in the vents etc wouldn't the smell be evident at all times when the fan is on?
  24. Thanks for that information. So you're thinking that during days when it's raining the moisture is being taken into the car's AC piping etc growing and feeding mold!? I read about that EED device on the website and still don't know where it goes or what it does specifically. Also the price seems to be hidden.
  25. WOW i just checked it and it's FILTHY! I never thought to check it today because i checked it in the fall and it was perfectly clean, and it hadn't been cleaned since 2005. I have NO idea how it got so filthy in 6 months when it stayed clean for 2 years... But nevertheless i cleaned it (best i can do for the night) and will see if it still smells tomorrow. HOPEFULLY it rains! Only thing that stumps me is why this only seems to happen when it's raining out. Could the moisture in the air be the cause?
