  1. lucy, one more thing to consider is the air filter. While it won't make a huge difference in MPG, if it hasn't been changed in a while, it could have a small impact. Since you just recently got your car, you do need to look at it to see its condition. If dirty, replace. I only mention it because I didn't replace my air filter as soon as I should have and have noticed a small improvement in MPG after I did.
  2. Post #11 has the instructions to program a remote to work with your car: http://us.lexusowner...showtopic=27617
  3. Remotes can be found on eBay. Prolly cheaper than an ECU.
  4. On my 95, turn the key once to unlock the drivers door, turn it a second time and the other doors unlock. As mentioned, if you turn and hold, the driver's window will go down. There is an ECU (computer) in each of the doors, maybe the driver's one is going bad.
  5. landar's suggestion to buy a new radiator (reservoir) cap is a good one. To expand on his "burping" instructions.... With the car cool: 1) Remove the tank cap 2) Set heater temp on high (85) 3) Let engine warm up to normal operating temp (to open the thermostat) 4) Rev engine between 2000 and 2500 RPM for 5 minutes (at some point you may see some fluid "blurp" (technical term) out as the air escapes) 5) Turn off engine and let engine cool 6) Add fluid to the tank as coolant is drawn back into radiator (don't let tank get empty) 7) When engine is totally cool, add fluid to full level 8) Replace cap
  6. +1 on a stuck open thermostat. Once you get that resolved and you still don't get good gas mileage, consider the water temp sensor: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56145
  7. @Shaaq, here's everything you wanted to know on the subject: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6583
  8. While there is a filter attached to the pump, there is a second one in the fuel line right where they say. Confirmed here: http://www.clublexus...eplacement.html although this one says it's in the middle: http://us.lexusowner...?showtopic=6951
  9. Yes, the "sawtooth" wheels came in chrome. But only for first gen (possibly just 90-92). If they came off of a 95, they're not original to it.
  10. jp, I mentioned this on you CL post, try PB Blaster. eastmanm, alternator protection rig.... check this out: http://us.lexusowner...showtopic=61995
  11. If you're willing to take a "short" drive, here's a well maintained LS400 from a highly respected forum member: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=57178
  12. pass on that one, here are a few options: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/1921117160.html http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/1920175559.html Maybe not this one but... http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/1919020757.html http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/ctd/1918756379.html As you see, you have choices if an LS400 is what you want. Just type LS400 in the craigslist search field.
  13. Here's a post by lexmex a few years ago on the "other" forum: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-first-generation/206914-engine-code-p0121.html
  14. Retrace your steps, get a really strong magnet and put it on the end of a stick and troll around the areas you were in. Any chance that would help you in locating it? It's not in any stupid obvious location like the spare tire wheel well, between the seat/arm rest, under the seat, in your back pocket?
  15. aj510, welcome to the forum, but please, STOP USING ALL CAPS! Thank you.
  16. This sounds like a microswitch problem in your ignition switch. Read billydpowell's post #2 where he describes how he fixed his: http://us.lexusowner...showtopic=59104 Ingore the rest of the stuff talking about the washer since your motor is working properly.
  17. Duplicate post...... I answered in your other post.
  18. In my 95 there is a Striker Assembly that is spring loaded to apply upward pressure on the trunk when it's released. I don't know if your 430 has that but if so, my guess it that the spring is broken or has come loose or something to that effect.
  19. For the PS fluid, check out the threads I linked here: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=57798&view=findpost&p=372435 You can always cover the alternator with a cut up gallon milk bottle to be safe.
  20. This recent thread on the other forum should help.... http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/510077-door-wont-open-help-1990-ls400.html
  21. Here's a recent discussion on the other club where I listed recent filter prices: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/492752-is-this-air-filter-worth-the-money.html
  22. landar, it's not a new twist, I did the same exact same thing when I did my starter "rebuild".... http://www.clublexus...tml#post4191291 The starter is still going strong but I had a problem getting the manifold back on and chewed up the new lower manifold gaskets I bought so I ended up using the originals. Now after 1.5 years later, it sounds like I've developed a leak as I'm getting noise from the engine when accelerating. Billy, congrats to you and your nephew on a DIY well done!!
