  1. I have a 2000 RX300 that shelled its transmission last fall. When I say shelled, I mean it went BOOM! CLANKETY! CLANKETY! CLANK! and lost everything when it shifted into I think 3rd. I fiddled with it and got it to go into 1st and drove 15 miles home. After that, it never moved again. It has about 230,000 miles on it and I am trying to decide whether to scrap it or fix it. It will cost what the car is worth to have it rebuilt, but I can get a used one for about 1/4 of that. My issue is how to get them switched out. I do not have a lift or cherry picker. I do have access to jack stands and a tractor with a front end loader. Has anyone done a DIY removal and replace without a lift? Assuming that t can be removed DIY, can it be rebuilt DIY? I am sure the answer is NO!, but I thought I would ask. I really like the idea of just replacing it and getting it driveable again. At least I could trade it in if it was back on the road. Thanks in advance for any help.
  2. My 2000 RX300 literally started overheating all at once, as in pegging the guage and boiling the coolant. I have had no other issues with it so far. It has 178,000 miles and I have had it since 100,000. Top hose was HOT and bottom was cool/warm so I thought thermostat. I have pulled the thermostat and it looks fine. I boiled a pan of water and it seems to be openng fine, at least as well as the crappy new one from the parts store does, about 1/4" gap. I am not sure that this is my problem. I have mechanical experience, but mostly on older American cars, still learning on the newer foreign cars. I am looking for common issues on the 3.0 VVT engine first. The water pump is a pain, and the radiator is expensive. I am assuming this is a reverse flow system(in the bottom out the top of the radiator)?
  3. So they are inside the plastic covers marked SRS SIDE AIRBAG on the outside of the seat cushion? If so I should be good if I tuck the covers behind the plastic? The covers I saw opened up on the upper part of the seat back.
  4. Would anyone know where the side air bags are located and where their deployment location is? I have the leather seats and due to the nature of my work they are getting dirty and I have to watch close for grease. I have seen seat covers that are supposed to have a seam that breaks away if the air bag deploys. Just want to make sure something like this will work. Any other info would also be appreciated.
