  1. Hello all, The original water pump on my 1993 GS300 just went. Not bad for a 12 year old car with 210,000 plus miles. My question is should I do anything else while my mechanic replaces the water pump. Timing belt? Also, does anyone have an idea what the part might cost? Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.
  2. Thank you Mitymouse. I appreciate your insight. The web link you listed was very helpful. Thanks again.
  3. Hello all, I have 17X7 aftermarket rims and looking for evryone's recommendation on tire width. Can I go with a 235 width on these rims? My guess is that 235 is the most I can go on a 17X7 rim. If I have two adults in the back will they scrape against the metal? Right now on my 93 GS300, I have the stock rims with 215X60X16 and 225X60X16 and they look and ride great. Thinking about going to 225X55X17 and 235X55X17 or 235X50X17. I like the staggard look and don't want any spacers. I also don't care to rotate the tires. The summer tires I want will last me 20K miles the most anyway. My next set of rims, I'll make sure I get 17X8 (front) and 17X9 (back). I understand that would be ideal for staggard look. However, these 17X7s is what I got and don't plan on buying new rims this year. The reason I want 50 or 55 series is so I can fill the wheel well as much as I can with the 17s without lowering the car with aftermarket springs. I think 60 series would be to high. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. That's why I mentioned both, smart guy <_< Only if you drop the pic of the ugly girl next to the OVERPRICED car. I find it SEXIST AND TASTELESS ← Lextech23, You are exactly right. I watched my mechanic replace the part yesterday. You also remove the small cover below the other. It took 20 minutes tops. The car is perfect again. Just curious, what is this part for? I'm glad it wasn't expensive.
  5. Hello all, I heard a funny noise one day on the way to work. Sounds like a squealing noise. I went to my mechanic and he determined that it was the tensioner pulley. I purchased the part at Lexus for $220. It this a common occurance? Is it hard to replace (install)? Does it have anything to do with the timing belt? I have almost 200,000 miles on GS. Besides this, the car is strong. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
  6. ColinBarber, I would like to do the same on my 93 GS300. I noticed this is for a 2001 model. Is it roughly the same procedure for my older model? If not, can you attach a pdf file for my year? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
  7. For me personally, I don't want to upgrade the amp. I just want to replace the blown sub. Rockford Fosgate is my favorite, however, I don't know if they make free air sub. I would assume that I should match the ohms, etc..?
  8. Hey what's going on, I have a 93 GS3 and I'm still running the factory nakamichi sound system. There's actually more to the stock nakamichi sub than you think. I've hooked up a sony 400 watt amp to it and let me tell you, that sub kicks. Another thing is that the way the trunk area is designed for the older GS' like mine, looks like it was designed for two things... 1. to hid the gas tank and 2. an already enclosed box for the sub. Now I've tested the difference between competition speakers on the actual trunk space which were 2 10in. JL audios pushing the same amp and then testing the stock sub in the enclosed area. I was surpised to find out that my nakamichi sub sounded way better than my competition subs. So i've come to a conclusion that the enclosed area was meant for the sub and gas tank. Hopefully this will give you some insight in your projects. ← TwinTurbo, I too have a 93' GS300. The nakamichi is great, however, I have blown the sub. What do you recommend? There just isn't many GS300 in junkyards were I can replace my sub with a used one. And if I order a new one, I'm sure it's $500 or more. I could intall an aftermarket sub, but will it sound as good? If so, what brand? Thanks in advance.
  9. I have a 93 GS300 with 195,000 miles. I bought it at an auction with 180,000 in April for $4,000. The car is incredible. Smooth as can be! Before that I had a V6 Camry for 7 years. Bought that with 34,000 miles and lost it in an accident with 212,000 miles. Toyota really is the best. I had Lexus run the VIN# to see what maintenance was done to the car. No information after 60,000 miles. I assume that the timing belt was replaced once and that I need to do it again. How do I know I need to replace it? What signs should I look for? Should I change the water pump at same time? Is there a tension belt as well? Just being proactive. Thanks in advance.
  10. Hello all, I just had my oil changed on my my 93' GS300 with 193,000 miles. The car takes about 5.2 quarts. My mechanic told me that I had about 4 quarts left when he changed the oil. He noticed that oil is leaking about the engine block. Could it be the head gasket? Has anyone had this job done on their car? What was the cost? I am assuming this is an expensive job at a dealership. Thanks in advance.
  11. Thanks Neo for your input. I will try to find the offsets on the rims. But I am assuming that the offset is the same as the stock rims that come on a 94' V6 Camry (whatever that might be). I did not know as much then as I do now. I didn't even ask about offsets nor did the dealer mentioned it when I bought them. Regarding the x7.5, stock rims come 16X7.5, so 17X7.5 should be o.k. However, I am not going to get the look I really want. Basically, I have rims sitting around for two years so I might as well use them. Looks like my previous owner drove on curbs with the stock rims. If i go 215/55/17 on the front and 225/55/17 on the rear, I can avoid buying the spacers for the rear. This will give me the "even" look I'm looking for. But like you mentioned, I will not be able to rotate the tires. At this point, I think I'm o.k. with that.
  12. Bolt patter is the same. They are 5 lug right? Offsets will be different. They may work but most don't put FWD rims on RWD cars. I would not stagger your tires since the wheels are the same size all around. You can fit 235s all around Thanks for your response. Yes, they are 5 lug. I just called the company I purchased them from and told me that I could put the FWD rims on the GS300. If I put 235s all around, the front will stick out more than the rear, which is why I want the staggered look.
  13. Hello all, I purchased 17X7.5 MHT wheels for my 1994 Camry V6 XLE (original size was 15"). I now have a 1993 GS300. Three questions: 1.) Is the bolt pattern the same? 2.) The rims are for FWD, will these work on the Lexus RWD? 3.) If it does work, what do you recommed for tire sizes: A.) 215/55/17 front and 225/55/17 rear? or B.) 225/55/17 front and 235/55/17 rear? I am new to the board and have read many messages. This really is an excellent board. Thank you in advance.
