  1. Here is a post that was posted today on another forum that is relative to the topic: " Since the Lexus mech who posts here doesn't seem to want to go here, I have to point out that this engine is an interference design. This simply means that if the timing between the valve train and the crankshaft is not maintained, the valve can physically contact the top of the piston, resulting in major physical damage, including bent valve stems, damaged valve heads, piston damage, and assorted metal pieces floating around in the cylinder head. At the very least, I would expect a full teardown and inspection of the head, the valve train, the piston top, and the cylinder walls on the cylinder in the bank that suffered the failure. An extension of the warranty would also be in order, if for no other reason than as a goodwill gesture."
  2. I've seen 2 or 3 instances of bent valves, usually caused by a bent or broken valve spring, exactly as you have described over on Club Lexus. It nearly always occurred in new cars within the first couple of thousands of miles. This is the 1st instance of it that I have seen in the last several months. I'm wondering how often it occurs and the news never makes it to the internet. Here's one thread addressing the situation: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...highlight=valve
  3. Thanks for the update. The bent valve problem has occurred before on some LS460's. It usually happens within the 1st 1000 miles or so on the car. Unfortunately you got one of the cars with the problem. Once they fix it, your car will probably be better than new. I would personally ask them to extend the factory warranty on the car as a good will gesture since you are having major problems with a brand-new car. I would ask for a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty on the engine and drivetrain. Best of luck with it, and again, welcome to the forum.
  4. First of all, do you have any pictures of your car that you could post here? I'd like to see it. Secondly, what was the diagnosis and repair the 1st time you had the problem? Thirdly, what did they do to fix the car the 2nd time? What was the diagnosis? What parts were replaced? You are not giving many details on this situation. Care to elaborate with some details? Oh, and welcome to the forum.
  5. This study reflects the relative dependability of models that are 3 years old. Thus, it reflects the dependability of the 2005 LS430 rather than the dependability of current models.
  6. What other manufacturers limit functionality while moving? How about Mercedes? How about BMW?
  7. The dealers in this area have several cars in their inventory without Nav. I would say 30% of their inventories don't have the factory Nav in them. I think a lot of people prefer the new portable versions that are available these days. They are excellent units and are much easier and less expensive to keep updated. I have one and move it between 3 cars and wouldn't be without it.
  8. I would wait a couple of months for the '09 models. Hopefully they will have the wind noise problems fixed in the new models.
  9. Lexus doesn't use synthetic oil, at least none of the local dealers do in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area do. They all use Lexus Mobil Non-Synthetic 5w30. I always thought it was synthetic but someone on the forum corrected me. I called all 3 dealers in my area and got the same answer. By the way, it's the same stuff they put in Toyotas.
  10. Good point. We are encouraged to change our oil every 3-6 months, regardless of mileage, which I feel is ridiculous. What's the difference between oil sitting in a can on a shelf, and oil sitting in the crankcase in your garage? I change oil based on mileage only....usually every 5000 miles or so.
  11. Archie, Lexus uses those calls to screen unhappy customers from posting unfavorable ratings at dealerships. After every service visit at my dealer, someone from the dealer will call to ask is I was happy with the service. If I say yes, a couple days later I get a call or survey from Lexus USA to rate my dealer (which will be favorable of course). If I say no, I was unhappy with the service, I never get a followup call from Lexus USA to rate my service experience. In that way, the dealer ratings are skewed in favor of only favorable ratings. Therefore, all the plaques and crap you see on their walls for great service mean absolutely nothing.
  12. Like I said, Good Luck with it. I've read the reviews......they don't work.
  13. Good luck with the laser detector. I've got one it doesn't do much good. The laser beam is very narrow and you get no warning when he scans the cars ahead of you. When he puts the beam on your car and the laser warning goes off, it's way too late. Instant-on radar works pretty much the same way except the beam is much wider and you get some advance warning from the cars ahead of you. Maybe the Quad Protection is not a bad idea.
  14. Make sure you give it adequate time to respond. Sometimes mine takes 30 minutes or more to adjust to the correct temperature after being in the garage.
  15. Hello lexuspartsgod! I'm a new member to the Club, and I arrived here as I have several complaints about my '07 460L. I'm certainly curious about any other owners who may be experiencing similar issues. As for the Chromed Telios wheels, you're absolutley right. They are painted on 'Chrome Wheels' and they're absolute crap. I bought my 460L from a dealer in Fort Worth, and it had 1800 miles on it, as well as the chrome wheels. Within a few weeks, I began to notice bubbling of the chrome finish, primarily on one rim, primarily around the lug nut wells. Now, 6 months later (6,000 miles on the car), I am finding 'peeling' on all of the rims. Lexus tells me that the rims are 'aftermarket' and therefore not warrantable, even though they were dealer installed?? I'm now looking for aftermarket wheels, but in my initial readings, this isn't going to be easy, eiher. I'd advise anyone to steer clear of what the dealers are offering. Thanks Bob Bob, Did you buy the Telios wheels or the Lexus chrome wheels? Which Ft. Worth dealer did you buy your car from?
