  1. My '90 just hit 265,000 this weekend, Lexus has a complete service history of the car right up to about 197k. I bought the car with about 247k, so theres about a 50k mile unknown period, and unless something major was replaced during that time (doubtfully), then the car had just normal maintenance done, typical LS stuff, ball joints, control arms, tb/wp, misc electronic gremlins. I've had to replace the master window switch, the multi-switch, climate control lcd, climate control bulbs, lower ball joints, tb/wp, front main, caps/rotors, plugs/wires, outer tie rods, alternator, and engine/trans mounts. My rear main is seeping, but not enough for me to tackle right away, my trans pan leaks (I have a new gasket&filter, just haven't gotten around to it), my temp gauge stopped working, and theres a little play in the steering that I haven't narrowed down yet, but otherwise, the car runs/drives amazingly for its age and mileage. Body is in great shape, so i'm hoping to get some new leathers for it this summer to freshen it up.
  2. After you get the door panel off, you're going to want to plug the window switch in (by its self) so you can operate the window motor. You're going to want to lower (or raise) the window motor till you can see the two bolts that hold the glass in through the little access holes (likely about 2" in diameter). You'll need to take those two bolts out, and pull whats left of the old window out. Vacuum any broken glass out of the bottom of the door/window motor/tracks and spray the tracks down with some WD40 to lube them up good. Slide the window in through the top at a slight angle, then "twist" it back straight. Make sure the glass is correctly in the side tracks (the rubber/felt parts that the outside of the window rides on) and slide the glass down into the motor, lining up the holes with the holes on the motor. Install the bolts again, and test the operation of the glass for proper up/down movement. Make sure it doesn't get bound up on anything. If all is well, remove the switch, and put everything back together. Enjoy saving yourself ~$100 in labor :)
  3. This is my first tank in my ~250k 90 LS400, 22mpg mixed highway/city with a good amount of lead footing. Judging by the shape of the timing belt (new one en route) i'd say everything maintenance wise is original on this car.
  4. I already figured it out, it was just low on refrigerant, apparently they weren't the smartest A/C shop
  5. I just picked up a 90 LS400 that the AC doesn't work on. I took it to an AC shop, and they said that the A/C system looks mechanically sound (compressor, lines, etc) and that there is refrigerant in the lines, but that there is an electrical problem that is not telling the compressor to engage. The AC button lights up, and the blower motor works. This shop said they don't work with electrical issues so I would have to take it to another shop. I can do electrical stuff, I just don't have the proper tools to work with A/C which is why I took it in. Is there any common problems with the A/C in these cars that I should know about, or does anyone have and ideas on where I should start?
  6. I actually ordered the set off Ebay, i'll just have to convert to 93-94 bulbs. I was reading about them on another forum and they had good reviews
  7. Sure thing! :) I think my car may be an exception to a lot of rules in time to come... It seems to have pretty badly neglected by prior owners :(
  8. I have a 90 LS400 that both of the head light housings (the glass/plastic part that the bulb goes into) have broken mounting tabs. This makes it impossible to properly aim the lights, so its nearly impossible to see at night. The junk yard is nearly impossible to find a good pair of lights especially for a decent price. I was looking on eBay but all I found were 6pc sets including corners (which were extremely ugly, BTW) and fogs. My fogs are perfectly fine, as are my corners, I just want to replace the headlights themselves. Does anyone know of somewhere I can buy replacements, preferably something with smooth glass?
  9. Thanks for the assistance guys, in case anyone was curious (or this comes up again) it was my light stalk (the arm that controls the headlights, fog lights, turn signals, etc.) I picked one up at a local scrap yard for $40 and it fixed the issue :) Note: Replacing this part is no easy task, I wouldn't recommend it to the faint of heart, nor to someone without access to many tools and lots of time.
  10. There doesn't appear to be any broken wires in that area... The only thing that seems to make sense is the stalk may be broken :/
  11. I just picked up a 90 LS400 last night, when I got it, the signals weren't working, it was missing the fuse, and the front passenger bulb. The front drivers bulb was un-plugged. I replaced the bulbs, and the fuse, and everything was great (so I thought). I decided to check all the other lights to make sure everything worked. All but the passenger reverse light work (even tried a new bulb) but thats not my concern right now. When I turned on the fogs (I think this is what triggered this *BLEEP* storm) the parking light stopped working. I couldn't figure it out. I found a fuse box cover on eBay to copy the diagram off of, is this the correct diagram I need? Now, if I turn the parking lights on, nothing happens. If I turn the signals on, nothing happens. If I turn the parking lights on, AND the RIGHT (ONLY the right) signal on, the parking lights come on (but not the signal). The hazards work as well, regardless of what lights are on. The only fuse that affects the lights is the 15A fuse listed as ECU-B in that diagram. Can someone please help me? I need to get this tank back on the road, i'm moving 1,500 miles across the country in 2 weeks.
