  1. Well to add to this mess, I must remind everyone of the wonderful service Roseville Lexus gave me leaving the sway bar disconnected from the front suspension and rubbing on the brake lines. Oh and the Axle shaft that came out because they didn't install it properly, and oh by the way the hoses and electrical connectors that seem to never get hooked back up. Oh and the wonderful missing three bolts that hold the transmission to the engine block after a tranny change. And you call them any better than Jiffy lUbe.. Give me a break. Incompletence runs everywhere and the only good mechanics I have found are at some of the independent shops. On my other hand I can count the few good dealerships that I have gotten good service. I have been wrenching cars since I was 12 and I am 56 now. Very few mechanics from my experience do good, safe work. Unfortunately I was not in that trade, but I would have been ten times better at it than a lot of the folks I have dealt with. Logic, and attention to detail make the difference.
  2. If he is talking about the drive shafts, they can be replaced at an independent garage with rebuilt ones. Should be a lot cheaper than 1800. The parts are probably no more than $200 tops and then add labor. As for the shimmy I dont know, not enough info, but you could have nothing more than bad tires or alignment.
  3. I agree look in the yellow pages and find a japanese foreign car service shop, call and find out if they do Lexus. Make sure the tranny fluid is Toyota Type IV.
  4. Thankyou for that info monarch
  5. When they say replace the torque sensing LSD oil are they talking about the rear drive differential oil on the RX300 AWD?
  6. maybe the spring clips that bias against the upper and lower portion of the pads is compressed or broken. Look very carefully, the pads should fit very snug in the clips with no up or down movement.
  7. I have a question, does the RX300 have one of these screens too? I havent looked, but was wondering.
  8. by the way I have found that the rear on my RX300 wore out before the front, never have had that happen before, but so be it. I have ceramics *akebono) on all four wheels and the braking is great. Very smooth and very quiet. Tire Rack was the vender, good service also. Boy sounds like some of my old honda accords that had bad braking design. Swith your rotors and check the calipers closely and go to ceramics, maybe you will get better brake life.
  9. I too wonder why your pads are bad so soon, my first set lasted to 70k and they still had material left. At 110k my rotors warped ( after lexus serviced the vehicle for the transmission) so I switched to Brembo disks and ceramic (Akebono) and they are super, also very little dust and no noises. I agree the OEM pads are great too though. 70k is great compared to most cars.
  10. I agree, the oil filter is a pain in the %$#E, been doing them on my RX300 For 7 years. Under the exhaust manifold is a great engineering feature. tempted to get a oil filter relocation, but everytime I think of it is right after I do the filter change. Then I dont think about it until the next oil change. Oh well, live and learn and dont buy a Lexus.
  11. typical Lexus ..................................
  12. I like your attitude, Even toyota services for a lot cheaper. Locally we have garages that specialize in Toyota products which includes Lexus, their prices are a lot more reasonable.
  13. does seem too strange, i wonder if a vucuum modulator, or something simple has caused the failure.
  14. yes it is safe, I switched at 115k and it is doing great.
  15. hey I could use the wiring diagrams for the center console and radio and heat and airconditioning on the dash, but all of them would be great. tskeen@surewest.net thankyou very much
  16. could you send it to tskeen@surewest.net thankyou I have a 99RX.
  17. I have never experienced the drive problem you had, however I would check the condition of the Transmission fluid in the car, if it is not deep red in color, but more black, than the valve body in the transmission may have caused the irregular shifting problem do to a sticking valve piston, which controls the shift fluid controls for the clutch packs in the Automatic transmission. Good luck. Please note also that the fluid should be tested for being type IV Toyota transmission fluid, other fluids would not be covered for warranty, and proper shifting of the transmission

    Mityvac

I purchased a hand held pump bleeder, haven't tried it yet but will give feedback when I do. Mine only cost 30 dollars. Came with a million different fittings and a vacuum guage also. YOu can test the vacuum system on your car also. Great tool if it works.
  19. Just use any household cleaner, even a little lysol in water.
  20. Too weird, first time it happened to us. Probably a bad electrical connection maybe with a little resistance buildup. Oh well till next time.
  21. You have bad Upper strut mounts, for the squeeking and noise on bumps.
  22. I dont know after buying my daughters Sequouia, I would go that route, I too own a 1999 RX300 AWD. The Sequouia is really nice.
  23. listen to your boss, he is absolutely right.
  24. Boy are you so right, and because of their ignorance to real cost, Lexus continues to overcharge everyone else. Its called supply and demand, The supply of stupid people gives Lexus the right to demand overinflated charges for simple tasks. Give me a break, charge $500 for changing the oil and filter, and check this or that, which is probably no more than a visual, unless they can find something to gouge you for. That is the Lexus Motto, demand as much a the ignorant customer is willing to tolerate. So there be it in a nutshell. Toyota does it for cheaper, and just as well. Oh by the way RX in NC is right, learn to do some of the service yourself, not only is it interesting, but saves you a lot of money, and gets you in the garage away from the little woman to give you both peace of mind. Oh by the way it works the other way around, Women can do it also to give themselves a feeling of accomplishment, and say heck with you service writer, I did it right and for 1/10 the cost.
  25. Thank you, She got home and it started working, What goes out is the center display with the heat and cool indicators, The rest works
