Your Lexus should be covered by the warranty. Do Not take any other anwer than it will be covered. You are under 60k miles and that is it. Suggest you have the tranny fluid changed every 15k miles after you get the new transmission. Sorry about your failure, good luck.

lenore replied to tslex's topic in 99 - 03 Lexus RX300
Please file a complaint with the NHTS board online, you will need the vin # of the car and explain the failure and how you feel it could endanger your safety while traveling down the freeway. Sorry for your missfortune. I am on my third transmission in my car. good luck -
I Should Be Beaten For Not Sharing This Sooner...
lenore replied to dfkd's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
I too have replaced the heater core on the Tauras. What a nightmare. Yes I am afraid the hours are correct it envolved lots of removeal including the dash. The engineers just dont think of maintenance when some of these things fail. I am sure the LS might also be tough. Good luck, -
How To Install Trailer Brake Control In '05 Lx-470
lenore replied to investorsc's topic in 98 - 07 Lexus LX470
Usually there are a couple of screws or bolts on the bottom edge of the lower plastic, remove them and then the top part of the plastic is usually held by clips. Be careful and pull the plastic panel off. The prodigy controller once set in position and adjusted I have found requires no further adj. . It automatically compensates for the grade the vehicle is on and applies proper current to the brakes. But if you move the controller it will have to be readjusted. Sometimes there is not a harness for the brake controller but a distribution box that receives the pigtail connector. We just found that out on the Chevrolet/GMC truck my son has. so look for a fuse box or distribution panel under the dash. However if Lexus was any kind of decent they would have a mechanic come out to your car at the dealership and point out where the connection is. I guess that is there great customer service. Sometimes the parts people are more helpful. good luck -
I know on several cars when you actuate the AC button the cooling fans come on at the same time. YOu may indeed have a problem with the fan relay.
-
usually their is a little plastic tool that looks like a close clip that allows you to grip the fuse. look in your owners manual.

REPLY!!! I feel your pain brother. I purchased a relatively low mileage 2002 RX 300 last June from a TOYOTA dealer (parent of Lexus).. I brought the car in for maintenance and told the service advisor that in the prior 3 days I noticed difficulty in acceleration and shifting. Wouldn't you know. He came back to me in 2 days and told me I needed a new transmission and I had put about 30,000 miles on the car. After going back and forth with Lexus in No. VA and Lexus in California, the regional service rep for Lexus told the dealer service rep to tell me that " tell him to take his car back to the TOYOTA dealer that he bought the car from. It's not our problem it's the TOYOTA dealer's problem". SO MUCH FOR SERVICE ON A LUXURY CUV. I'M NOT FINISHED YET. I WORK IN MEDIA RELATIONS IN DC. YOU CAN BET THAT LEXUS WILL HEAR FROM ME!!!!!! Join the ranks of unhappy dissatisfied customers in the RX auto. I have posted about the poor decision to buy a RX300 numerous times. Lexus does not care and they do not support their product, except to take your $4300 to $5000 for the replacement of your transmission. Have you filed a complaint with the NHTS board online to show your displeasure?

We bought the 1999 RX300 after the Mercedes dealership treated us like white trash. I did own a ML320 for about 40 hours but turned it back in when I discovered it had been in the service shop 47 times in its 9 month history. The RX300 was great, and we thought it had Toyota Dependability until the Transmission failed twice. And that was with meticulous maintenance and Tranny fluid changes every 30k miles. Great vehicle but lousy transmission and lousy service at Lexus of Roseville, California.

Transmission Problems/failures with RX300 awd/fwd

If the failures continue to roll in pretty soon it will be lawsuit time for false claims of maintenance and reliability. Lexus and Toyota better step up to the plate, At least Honda/Accura did on the MDX. For cry in out loud, There is room to pick up the tab or fix the problem. One or the other. When I received my lousy response from Lexus of America after giving 26 pages of documentation to support my case, I promised them I would not give in and would make sure that as many people as I possibly can will not buy their product. Good business means treat the customer right, they failed. I just came back from a multi state vacation and sadly drove my Ford F150 because I didn't have any trust in my RX300 and didnt want to ruin my vacation like last time when I lost my transmission. How sad, I hate American products, but Lexus ruined my faith in Toyota products. Good luck fellow RX300 owners, you will need it. -
Well have you filed your complaint with the NHTS board today? Sorry just a reminder. by the way folks I have received two more emails with failed RX300 Transmissions. I am now starting to log them and save them for the future. Lexus Sucks, when it comes to supporting the RX300. Anybody that buys a used one beware, you are on borrowed time.

with the batttery disconnected the battery lead on the alternator should not read a short to ground if it does there is probably a wiring problem. I have had major problems from some auto stores with their alternators in particular Kragens auto which is also called Black Flag in some states. Sorry good luck

Transmission Problems/failures with RX300 awd/fwd
lenore replied to tslex's topic in 99 - 03 Lexus RX300
Well folks I have received two more emails from unfortunate victims of the tranny failures that did not post on this site. They read the posts and emailed me directly. How sad that every week I now get at least one email of another failure. Please everyone File a complaint with the NHTS board online and register your displeasure. We are growing in numbers and Lexus is still not standing behind their crappy product. Soon there may be a class action if enough people get together to voice their displeasure. Hey I have repeated it over and over and I know it gets old, but I did the changes and maintained my vehicle. It sucks to eat $4300 for a rebuilt tranny when Other Toyota products are lasting much longer with less maintenance. I took my ford on vacation, because I didnt feel confident enough to go on a multi state travel with my wifes Lexus. how sad, a Luxuary car that makes you loose all confidence. -
Transmission Problems/failures with RX300 awd/fwd

The transmission rebuild was over $4,200. So that was just the labor and parts for a rebuilt transmission, right? Or was there other items included, like a major tune-up... Just wondering.. That was for just the labor and rebuilt transmission that they installed. -
I cant believe somebody else beside myself does that. I use Polymolybodium/disulfide high temp bearing grease. Some pulleys can not be greased as the seal on the bearing is not removeable. If it has a plastic grease seal I pop it out with a sharp scribe and then apply grease with my finders rotating the bearing to quiet it down. If it does not roll smoothly, it is shot and must be replaced. After greasing I push the grease seal back into the bearing carefully. Good luck.

Either one as long as they are six point socket based. These give more surface to the bolt and have less chance of rounding off. The rachet is great in tight places.

Well folks I received the O2 sensor from Ebay in 3 days from Florida. Good transaction so far. I compared it visually to the one on the front bank exhaust. Looks like a dead ringer size and shape wise. The one I ordered is a four wire universal made by Denso. Good quality heat shield shrink was supplied as well as crimps, however I would solder being a technician for 38 years, I dont like crimps in elements of heat etc. Sorry guys that is all I can give you right now, but the product looks first class just like the one in the manifold. got it for $25 delivered to my house. what a deal....

You know I have lived all over the US and california is definetly full of some of the biggest look at me folks, but they dont represent the bread and butter folks like me. But I will tell you the folks in NC are by far some of the nicest that I have met anywhere. I have met great people all over, but only a handful of places have people that are really genuine in their personality. The South rules as far as I can see. The rural areas are always the best. Anyway my two cents, have a great time and enjoy the sites, that is why people come to live here, but quite frankly I would move to your neck of the woods anyday, just dont care for the humidity. I live in Virginia Beach once in my past and my Grandaughter was born in Jacksonville NC and what a wonderful town of people that is, friendly and polite as can be. Have a great weekend.

Well Everyone, Its Time For Me To Say Goodbye...

Best of luck young man, remember one thing, never trust the IRAQ folks, and use your common sense to protect you. Make a pack with your buddies and watch each others back. You will be well, and God Bless you. We look forward to your posts when you come back. -
In light of todays gas prices keeping those tires up can effect mileage 5%. So air up gents.
-
Maybe one of the drive belts are slipping, other than that I would make sure there are no oil leaks.
-
Hey head north a little to Santa Barbara, beautiful town with the only mediterean climate in the United States. I would so go further north to Monterey but that is a long drive. Enjoy and be careful driving.
-
I had some goodyear integrity tires on a company van that the belt had become seperated on. It caused the shaking at around 70 mph. Could be a bad tire also. Try to have them balanced.
-
Ok I am going to buy one of the Ebay sensors and check it out. I will post when I receive it and give any info that I can get off the sensor.
-
Hey toysrme, are the deminsions extactly the same on the sensor, I mean Length, probe size, etc? I found the Denso universal for 23 dollors and was told not to go that route on this forum. Of course it was EBAy.

I am afraid they messed your wiring up. They may have moved a harness and shorted it to some metal somewhere under the dash.
