First keep a log of all do it yourself maintenance and if possible all receipts for the items. Yes the dealers dont like it but have to honor it, but expect resistance.. Please note the mileage and time intervals for required maintenance, they can get you on either if not carried out to a T. Make sure if maintenance is required every 5000miles or 6 months to not let either deadline lapse. They got my mother on a extended warranty for the time interval even though the mileage was way less. they refused payment on a starter that died on a Nissan that she owned. What a crock, considering a 7 month oil change would not cause a starter failure. good luck and maintain your vehicle for many happy miles.

Whoa, sounds like she is getting her car painted. lucky her, sucky for you, so sorry for your bad luck. I am awaiting the shoe to hit the fan after I co signed for my daughters loan, and she just totaled somebody else's Mustang convertible. Just found the other person has acquired an lawyer. Oh boy..... My name is on her registration along with daughter, but the car is insured under her name only, but, and boy I must say but, We found out that she had minimum property damage to the tune of $5k, not enough to cover the mustang, I dont know if I am in trouble or not being the co signer and my name on her cars registration because of the co sign. Man I hate accidents, and definetly dont like my daughters driving. Second car wrecked in two 1/2 years. Children, what we do for them and suffer the consequences. I checked my property on my insurance and it was only 25k, not good for a total loss on somebody else's Mercedes or Lexus or Mustang with all the bells and whistles. Called insurance and increased it for only $7.00 per year to $50k. Man you have to read those policies carefully. I always thought property was like if you hit a light poll or fence or something. No it is the value of the other drivers car. Collision only covers your car. Very enlightening for a guy who has been driving for 30 plus years and did not know that till daughters accident. Does anybody think they will go after me because my name is on the registration of daughters car, but not the insurance? Sorry about jumping into this thread, but seems appropriate.

Hey RX there is a write up on the RDX in this months issue of consumers report. Nice car, but it does use premium gas. Has a four cylinder? thats interesting with over 200 hp. By the way they recommended it over the other cars in that class.

Torque Value For Caliper Slider Pin Bolts On Rx330?
lenore replied to turboBB's topic in 99 - 03 Lexus RX300
I believe it is 14 ft/lbs. At least that is what it is on the RX300 -
check your transmission fluid, pull the dip stick out and see if it smells burnt. Also check its color on a white cloth, should be deep red, if it is black you are in trouble.

Drivers Side Door Latch Hitting Bar
lenore replied to jcmc300rx's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Have someone lift the door while you look at the hinges. If the pins in the hinges are moving, they are worn and the hinges may have to be replaced. they do sell them. -
Hey thankyou very much. The index is in the Pdf tabs on the side. It is listed under bookmarks.

Transmission Problems/failures with RX300 awd/fwd
lenore replied to tslex's topic in 99 - 03 Lexus RX300
First thing first, check the oil level. If it is good then dial in on the dealer !Removed! something up. Lexus of Roseville California went out of their way to mess stuff up ( crappy mechanics) Also suggest changing fluid every 15k miles from now on. One other thing, I hope you do not have an sludge problem in your engine. It is still under warranty for that problem and make Lexus check it. -
I too believe in a sort of fifty fifty situation. I like the marrying of two different people to cook in their style, of course I love food and enjoy my wifes cooking, but I find I am cooking more than her at this stage in our lives. She Is working and I am quote retired. Barbeque is my 100% thing as my wife only burns it when she trys. I like RX would prefer to clean afterwards, as I too am more effecient (I guess the old Navy training). When we dated I remember each of us trying specialty dishes on each other. I won my wife with beer bread and a bottle of wine, oh those were the days. enjoy....

thanks RX I remember you giving that info, I checked mine and there doesnt appear to be any exhaust leak, but I didnt start it and move my hand around that area to see if I could feel any exhaust leak. Hope you and yours are well and having a great holiday season. Tom

I am sure that they checked the air pressure in your tires? You still may want to re check. I have got my car back with each tire off by 4 or 5 psi...??? I will check that,

I am still looking for ideas, if you have some experience with front end noise share your experience. thanks everybody.

My wifes RX300 AWD has been experiencing a low drone and rumble between 50 and 70 mph. When the tranny is put in neutral it is still there. The tires were rotated and balance (Michelin cross terrain) but the noise is still there, you can feel it somewhat through the steering wheel. Any ideas before I start investigating the front end? The car has 131kmiles on it and the drone goes up and down in pitch. The transmission is very smooth and no noise below 50 mph. Could it be axle shafts, bearings, or what else. Anybody have any ideas or related experience at this mileage?

I am so sorry, read the posts carefully, RXNC says approach the dealership firmly and tell them you expect them to replace the tranny on their dime. Dont get mad, just be very firm. In his posts he gives you how he approached it and was successful. Since you have had your service at Lexus, they may do a good will, faith replacement. If not run to a tranny shop, they are a lot cheaper. The dealer will charge you $4300 but the tranny shop may be considerably less. Good luck and dont forget to file a complaint with the NHTS board online about your failure, you will need your vin # of the vehicle.

We in the US were told that premium is the fuel of choice for the RX300, it will run with regular, but the book is kind of confusing. I find the mileage is better with the premium.

I put KYB on my RX300 and also am very happy with them, great product and good service from tirerack.

Transmission Problems/failures with RX300 awd/fwd
lenore replied to tslex's topic in 99 - 03 Lexus RX300
Lenore, what warranty did you get on that fix? I received a one year warranty with 12kmiles only. And that was from Lexus of Roseville, CA. They did a sucky job on my car and required another transmission and many follow up trips to repair the poor workmanship on my car. You would be better off at a tranny shop. By the way I have been asking everyone to file a complaint with the NHTS board online. YOu will need your vin #. the reports are starting to add up. -
There is a huge amount of data and forum on tranny failures on this site. Just type in Transmission failures RX300. Please also note that the fluid should be changed every 15k miles. The dealership will not tell you this officially. Also if you have a failure and are not near the warranty, get it done by an independent shop, not Lexus, because they will not give you any breaks. $4300 is about the norm at Lexus of America.

Transmission Problems/failures with RX300 awd/fwd
lenore replied to tslex's topic in 99 - 03 Lexus RX300
Great price on the transmission. Wish I had done the same. Lexus soaked me for $4300 . Thanks for that info. -
In town and highway mix mine has always gotten 16 to 17 miles per gallon. More highway and we have averaged 20 miles per gallon, however my wife's car is an AWD. Had the car for 8 years and that is what it gets. The computer is always been off.

You might try unplugging and plugging back in the connector to the top of the ABS unit, maybe corroded. That fixed my Ford F150 ABS light.

Which rotors or selection codes did you buy? I don't see Brembo listed but there are quite a few types listed.... Went to tirerack.com and selected the only rotors front (Brembo brand) the rear is particular to whether you have AWD or FWD.

I too have the Lexus of Roseville on the hit list, I have posted in the transmission thread the wonderfull work they performed on my car and the countless return visits to repair. Once you experience this kind of worksmanship, they lost at least 20 customers by word of mouth. Great thing the internet. I know of four people that personally refuse to give the pleasure of business because of my experience. Basic one o one on how to treat customers. That is why I take it to Toyota when necessary now.

That is an interesting observation on the fram filter. Be interesting to know if the oil leaking is on vehiclel where the owner has used fram filters. I never have, and have 131k miles, no sign of leak so far (knock on wood)
