  1. GEICO......................caveman
  2. In twenty years all cars will be made in China, their goal is to employ their people, the auto industry is next. In our world the auto makers will sell out to the cheapest labor.....
  3. Sorry West, I forgot that these cars do give some indicators when the tranny messes up....
  4. You know I just read all of this, I wonder if cleaning each of the ABS sensors at all wheels and cleaning the sensor rings with a brass brush to clean any buildup would fix the problem. I just replaced the left front axle shaft and when I removed the sensor it had some light metal debris stuck to it. I cleaned it and didnt think much about it, but maybe all of the wheels have some debris on the sensors. After all mine is an 8 years old car. May be worth a little time and effort and may solve these vibration problems. Lexus folks are parts changers, example MAF sensor when just some cleaning will fix problems. Hope you all read this and if you try it give some feedback if it solves the vibration.....
  5. I hope you dont have a sludge problem, however do some research, type in seafoam on this site, You may be able to quiet the lifter by running some seafoam through the engine oil. But the oil would have to be changed right afterwards. If you are not a do it yourselfer, than a good engine cleaner added to the oil and then getting a oil change right afterwards according to the manufacturors recommendations may help. You may just have a sticking lifter. Switching to a good synthetic oil afterwards would be recommended.
  6. I personally am against the additives, I would look for products that have high quality in the first place. You will have to do some research, and read many of the sites for input from fellow car owners.
  7. However if you do commutes that envolve a great deal of city driving and in the heat of summer, these trannys suck....The cooler is located in the wheel well with poor cross ventalation. I am planning to move the cooler to the front of the vehicle where it can be effective. The tranny in overddrive is constantly searching for top gear below 40 miles per hour even in commute traffic. poor design and poor ecu design.
  8. Thank God for your daughters safety.... god bless
  9. I think you all have missed the boat, Sounds like the valve body assembly is dirty and the overdrive shift solenoid is failed or sticking. I hate to tell you but the tranny is about to go out. Mine failed as your did. Does the fluid smell burnt when you check the dipstick? If it is black or very dark brown, it is probably going to fail completely soon. The dealer would doubtfulling clean the valve body assembly for you, but a tranny shop might. A fluid flush might make it worse. Good luck...
  10. seems like it would be hard to overfill, unless the car was jacked up and not sitting horizontal. I know you can put excess in but it should flow back out the hole. I just did mine for the second time today on the front and rear differentials on my RX300. I installed Royal Purple synthetic which apparently has the additives for limited slip already mixed. My RX has limited slip from the factory... A half quart seems quite substantial for expansion to me. Please note: if you jacked the car up and are not sitting level, the fluid would also flow out....
  11. Read all forums on transmission problems, especially with the AWD model....
  12. I have not experienced the Muddy brown look lately, but Someone mentioned to deselect the overdrive while in town so that the tranny is not searching for the highest gear in slower traffic. Last night she forgot and drove it home with overdrive deselected at highway speeds, bummer, ate more gas. I just try anything to make it go further, I have already added an external tranny filter, but would like to move or add a cooling fan to the external tranny radiator which is located in the right front fender well. I sure wish Lexus would step up to the plate and recall these darn things....wishful, but will never happen.
  13. Hey good morning, I would still do a change once a year if I were you, just chalk it up to the yearly maintenance and piece of mind.
  14. As you have said you have a relationship with LExus, I suggest approaching them politely, but firmlly that you would like them to take care of the headlight, since you have given them your business and there appears to be a problem with them failing. Remind them that the other headlight was replaced for the same failure.
  15. Is your use of the vehicle mostly on street traffic or highway? My wifes is mostly street and in Sacramento during the summer gets quite hot. I have asked her to deactuate the overdrive while commuting unless she goes on the highway. I am 35k on my second tranny at present and have changed fluid 3 times. I want to move the tranny cooler to a place where it will receive more air flow. Good luck
  16. Well here on the west coast, regular $3.17 and premium 3.41 sucks big time
  17. Hey, toysrme, you seem to have a lot of experience with the oxygen sensors, tell me, I have a 99RX300 and have no indications and car runs fine, but I have 135k miles on it. Mileage is same as when I got car new, but the oxygen sensors have never been changed. From your experience is it time for me to change at least the two pre cat sensors?
  18. The vibration is not normal, as for the lamp yes it is a bulb that can be replaced.
  19. Maybe your Kenmores are made there, The last ones I have purchased had made in Mexico on a majority of the parts.
  20. I'll check behind the fuse box to see if wires are touching, this is the second fuse that went up in flames. Do you think the wires in the trunk hinge could cause this problem? you should be able to remove fuse and measure 12 volts on one side, and nothing on the other side. The side with 0 should not read a direct short to ground, but would probably require removing the lamps in the brake lights to confirm this. I would check the lamp sockets first, removing them, and hitting the brakes to see if the fuse blows, if it does you probably have a dead short in the harness, and yes possibly in the trunk harness.
  21. I agree, they used to be really good, but they are all made in Mexico, poor reliability, I would buy a LG or Samsung refrigerator. Sorry, but that is the way of all American companies, lowest labor, poor reliability.
  22. I am an Audi TT also, but I too am not cute. Go figure, in my younger days I used to race British sports cars up and including a Jaguar XKE....
  23. By the way, the missing plate will give a bored cop a reason to stop you, no matter what you are doing. My son is a cop, he says its great for stopping suspected folks, ( he works in a high gang area) . I know in my town of Roseville the cops are quite bored and love to stop you for missing plate.....I know it looks cleaner without the plate....
  24. If the fuse melted in the fuse holder it is possible it was corroded and arc out, burning everything, the short in the harness should have blown the fuse unless it is the wrong amperage, but even with a short it should have blown. check for signs of corrosion on the rest of the fuses where they contact the fuse. Only other thing is behind the fuse block, wires could have shorted burning the block.
  25. I have the same issue in my 99 RX Did anyone suggest a fix? That does not sound good, Did you take the cover off the top of the engine and check for leaks from the fuel injectors. I would hate to see fuel leaking ontop of the engine.
