  3. You know maybe just cleaning the canistor valves might work. By the way the carbon canistor is back by the fuel tank and it does have external pressure valves that feed the ECU. It is on page 1817 on the RX300 repair manual...Search this site for the download of a RX300 repair manual.
  4. I know that they had to replace my charcoal canistor on my 99 many years ago for that problem. It fixed it. But It is frustating when you are trying to diagnose it. good luck
  5. If your car is running at a slower speed than what is indicated, it is probably getting better fuel economy, maybe that is why auto manufacturors are doing so.. I have checked my speedometer on My RX300 (99) and it is only 1 to 2 miles per hour faster than GPS indicates. My 2005 Ford F150 is about 4 mph faster than gps indication. The speed sensor on the drive shaft should be quite accurate if properly counted in the Computer on our cars. Yes Tire pressure and tire size could effect this, relating to revolutions per mile by the tire. All aside, I drive with the flow of traffic and yes it is generally faster than the posted speed limit.
  6. I agree. Our 2007 Rx 350 is about 3 to 4 miles slower than what is registered on the Lexus speedometer. We have varified this whenever we pass those speed display detectors on the freeway, following my wife in my MB while on the phone with her to confirm our speed, as well as with our portable GPS. I'm going to test mine too against my PDA GPS. But I have a question. As far as MPG is concerned, isn't it possible that your odometer is correct even though you speedometer might be off? Shouldn't one test the odometer before determining that the MPG calculation is erroneous? That is correct on the old analog speedometers, as they were gear driven many years ago...

  8. I know the Engine ECU will compensate, but does it put the engine in a different load situation? I have used regular on occcasion in my RX but mostly use premium as recommended by Lexus...

  10. Is $37900 for the middle level Es350 A good price? My son and his wife went shopping today, and a broker said he could get one for $37900 before tax and license.

  12. I agree, bite the bullet and have them replace the part, then make them pony up to make sure that the transmission is good. That way you gave them the benefit of doubt, and they should stand behind their rebuild...
  13. If your tranny was slipping I doubt that the speed sensor was at fault, however the sensor could very well have been messed up by AAMco. Maybe take it to Toyota, or an independent Toyota mechanic and have them check replace the sensor. Get every thing in writing and if it is The tranny shops fault take them to Small claims court....
  14. Worst cars I ever owned but very fun to drive, Triumph TR250 and Jaguar XKE (1968). The British cars were notorious for everything going bad. Electrical, over heating, and transmissions that wore out....Next worst, Ford Windstar (1998) Everything electrical and crappy brakes....(always wearing out)
  15. I wonder if they unplugged the abs speed sensor on the left wheel (front). hopefully they didnt break the wire...They probably caused this I would say hey when you removed or replaced the tranny you messed up the speed sensor line....your dime
  16. The screw is under the switch panel, put some masking tape on the vinyl next to the wood grain, then use a small flat blade screwdriver to carefully pry the wood switch panel out.. I put a putting knife under the screw driver to protect the vinyl from damage... There is a clip at the top and bottom of the switch panel but I cannot remember whether it is on the side or top and bottom...I have only done the drivers door, but I assume the passenger side is the same...
  17. I believe there is a little plastic piece that you have to pop to access the screw, also under the door switches there is another screw...You have to pry the piece out from the top very carefully, there are plastic tabs that grip the arm rest....Sorry I wish I had a picture...

Yep, $35 dollars in parts costs from Walmart and toyota filters, The rest will be your sacrifice to the Lexus Gods, and enjoy that Coffee and free donuts, and get plenty of bottled water.....Hope they treat you fairly, make sure if you have any issues to bring them up for your warranty work....
  22. Mike00 has the correct instructions, And yes I have removed and replaced the left drive shaft on my RX300, so there are people here that do it... The use of a small crowbar my help a lot, the spring clip is what holds the shaft.. By the way I had a really hard time removing the axle from the hub, I suggest putting the axle nut back on and hitting it with a heavy hammer if it sticks, I tried wood between the shaft and hammer, but it cushioned the blows. The new axle shaft should come with a new nut. I replaced the seal on the tranny where the axle goes in, also another challenge when trying to insert the new seal straight. It can all be done, just takes patience.. by the way I removed the abs speed sensor before I banged the axle shaft out of the hub, I didnt want to risk any damage. It was dirty and had some debris on it. Toyota sells a Haynes repair manual for the Highlander/RX300 for around $15 which is really good for reference..Good luck
  23. this is a picture note the drain plug above the left two bolts...not the tranny pan...
  24. On the AWD RX300 there is a power take off drain plug directly to the rear of the car from the tranny pan. On the right side you will see a drain plug which is vertical, ot horizontal. Then to the right side of the car to the point of the rear drive shaft there is a transfer case with a bottom and top plug.... I am not sure if the RX330 is the same....
  25. Thanks for the link and the techniques. I have been changing brakes, master cylinders, and other items like this for more than 20 years so what your words are confirming what I suspected. I should have prefaced my comments with requests to confirm anything UNUSUAL in changing out the brake pads. Btw, what are most of you using for replacement pads? Lexus or from the FLAP? Gary I tried some aftermarket ones for about two days, big mistake the originals lasted 75k miles, so I bought a set and replaced my new aftermarket pads... Ps I usually buy aftermarket, but the Lexus pad is awlsome, My next pad was akebono ceramics and brembo disks at 110k miles. they are wonderful....
