  1. You should go to a Autozone and have them read the codes for you, that would give us a better idea of what is going on. and welcome aboard....
  2. I wonder if Auto RX would have fixed the problem. Some have claimed on the Club Lexus site to have really cleaned the engine internally with the stuff, Engine was smoother, and oil leaks dissappeared. Anybody have experience with this stuff.
  3. Actually it was by 2001 and you blow any and all credibility by making blanket statement without a shred of supporting evidence. So you think that from 2001-2003 all of a sudden everyone miraculously learned how to maintain their trannys, and thats why there are so few failures in those years compared with 99,00 ????? I agree, Lexus did and does have a problem on the 99 and 2000 lexus tranny. The failure rate is very high for such a high end vehicle and I repeat, Many of us did maintain our vehicles properly and still had the failure. The weak point in the transmission probably cant support heavy commute day in and out in hot weather. Blue stu acts like Monarch from the past that the failure is from poor maintenance..... Give me a break...
  4. Josh, also check and see if the state of New York has a Veterans home loan program, here in California they give loans and you get a great break in that you do not have to pay for Fire insurance, it is included, and the interest rate used to be cheaper than what the market had. I know some states are offering programs for their vets. As for VA yes it is reuseable as long as you pay off the previous loan. You will need to file for a certificate of eligibility was the Veterans administration. Just requires a DD214 or proof of military service.
  5. Hey good job and you saved yourself some big bucks, how does it feel to work for $300 per hour....
  6. The fluid is $5.00 a quart at toyota dealerships. The only alternative is Amsoil, however somewhere somebody found other alternatives, but I cant find them. Definetly do not have Quicklube do your flush, Get a 10 mm allen wrench or socket allen and change it yourself. Drain and refill with 4.2 quarts by dropping the fluid from the tranny pan and the transaxle. Both require the 10mm allen. get a funnel that fits the dipstick and refill and you are done... $25 bucks top... do it again in a week and a third time a week later. The fluid should return to its pink/red brightness. It is not that difficult.... then change the fluid once a year or every 15k miles.
  7. When the battery is dead, the shift lock solenoid wont work, look in your owners book, there is a little black square plastic piece down on the shifter, you need to take a really small screwdriver (flat blade) and lift that plastic piece, then insert your ignition key or screwdriver to unlock the shifter and move it back into whatever position you want. Get a new battery and it will work fine.
  8. I owned a used ML for one day, turned it back in when I ran a service history on it. It was 7 months old and had been serviced 27 times, all for problems.... Went down and bought my 99 RX300 brand new. The ML turns better (mercedes does a great job on suspension design) but the Lexus other than the tranny problem is far better...
  9. So west de selecting the overdrive in communte traffic at least stops the tranny from constantly searching for overdrive below 40 mph... Do you agree? by the way I live in sunny california so no snow problems for traction...
  10. Would you be so kind as to explain what those circumstances are? My 1999 is getting a new tranny as we speak (type?). I have instructed my wife to de select overdrive when in heavy commute slow traffic so that the tranny will not constantly search for the overdrive.... I too would be interested in that tsb.....
  11. i have not added a cooler , but did add an additional external fluid filter. my next move will be to move the tranny cooler in the wheel well to the front of the vehicle. When i do I will take pictures. Just need some time...
  12. The Michelin Cross/Terrains are the last ones I bought, great tire (little pricey) but I have over 50k on them and looks like they will go another 50k....
  13. Its is hard to break a cycle, I am on a Ford site and experience the same devotion, even when they are talking about spark plugs blowing out and thru the hood, engines that are garbage at 500 miles and Ford says suck it up and wait for months to get it repaired. People are basically idiots, and the only bright ones are on this site... Consummers need to demand more of the manufacturors, if not that is why quality goes down...
  14. Great hearing from you Josh, Congratulations on your promotion. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers....
  15. remember JD powers shows the initial reliability,I differ with the long term reliability, but Hope so for mercedes, they have been in the dump for the last 12 years...
  16. great info, wish you had the numbers on those amp chips, think the tech would give them to you or is it on your receipt?
  17. Oh yea, Stromberg carburators which where a mess compared to the SU carbs earlier....
  18. Wrong! Certain states require that your old plates are turned in. Here's an example from the NYS DMV >> http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/regtransfer.htm#surrender That is why you tell them they were stolen... end of subject....by the way my wife had plates too, but took them off after being briefed about security issue, in that bad people remember the vanity plates and can watch you more easily in the case of stalking and whatever... She "lost" them and got new plates... I highly suggest this for women....
  19. I wrenched on British sports cars back in the late 60's and 70's, have rebuilt Jaguar XKE engine, Mercedes 190e engine, Ford A4ld automatic transmission. (all successfully) and maintained all of my other cars. I did not rebuild my Lexus Tranny because I thought Lexus was going to help compensate, ( yeh right) . Have done everything else on my lexus including adding Filter on the transmission, Left Axle shaft, and any and all electrical problems.. Rebuilt the Alternator (new bearing and brushes) just trying to keep ahead,,, Replaced both front shocks and shock mounts. Many years ago used to race a Triumph TR-250 over in Spain and maintained all of my friends Bristish cars...Yea I can do it, but dont enjoy it anymore...
  20. Oh man where is Monarch when you need him, He would be crying to know the beloved Lexus failed with proper maintenance. I agree 148k on this engine is crap....If it had sludge or lost all of its oil or coolent, maybe...I know he didnt use Toyota Motor oil and toyota this or that... compensation would have been the proper thing...
  21. If you want to keep them for keepsakes, tell DMV that someone stole the plates... Then get your new plates....
  22. I think you got a pretty good deal, I would have done that stuff myself, but your cost seems extremely fair when considering how much Lexus would have charged. Drive on and if you have more problems replaced the other coil packs, they are easy work....
  23. You are so right RX NC, tell that girl that a Saturn is the alternative. Let her make a decision then....Then we wonder why they become pregnant and not married....
  24. I wonder if you have a cracked exhaust manifold, leaking air in....
  25. My son just called and said his wife got stuck, her car died while at a beauty parlor, The battery was dead, they jumped it and it ran, they kept it running to finish errands....The car is only 1 week old.... 07 es350 does anybody know if there has been a problem with batteries lately? And will Lexus come out to replace the battery? The nearest dealer is 40 miles away.. Ohby the way the trac light code is also on... could this be related to the battery going south...
