  1. If you on a budget and you Love your Lexus and you want to keep it running to 'near dealership' specs :whistles: and keep more gas in your car this is what i think you should do based on experience. Starting off with the simple things 1st do yourself a big favor :) buy yourself a scanner.... you can get one from Autozone little as 50$, this save waiting in line at autozone for future CEL issues it will pay for itself in the long run. CEL (Check Engine Light) the only reason this light comes on is one of the sensor bad, so if you actually take time to replace all sensors this can eliminate future worries of this light popping on. 'REPLACE ALL SENSOR ARE YOU CRAZY YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THIS COST' well you dont have to do it all at once if your finances wont allow, just do a little at time. For example when you get paid do all your oxygen sensors. Most Lexus only have 3 and you can look online most them you can get as little as 60$ a piece. Oxygen sensors wont improve how the car rides but your engine can tell the difference when it comes to using gas. Then work on your V.S.S ( Vehicle SPeed Sensor ) then follow that up by replacing T.S.S Transmission Speed Sensor. Most may complain of the car not shifting right, these two sensors can be the culprit and replacing them can show some improvement when shifting occurs. They can run not more over 100$ if you shop online. Now were getting somewhere still a ways to go for some just replacing those can show a big improvement. Just understand what is a sensor. just feedback sent to the computer that all. They are made of plastic so just think if you have a car over 10 years old that plactic may get brittle and the signal it sends back might be off a few numbers... those few numbers can cause lost in horsepower and the engine can start idling real bad. :o When you get time on your next paycheck or whatever do you engine a favor, do a radiator flush and replace the thermostat, o.k you did that now you see where you Engine coolant sensor is? go head and replace that to. The Engine Coolant Sensor can improve some horsepower and idling issues 70$. Now this will improve gas mileage and idling your camshaft sensor it's right there looking at you when you raise the hood got mine for 75 at autozone the camshaft sensor is the reason for most us to see oil in the computer harness, well its' right there where you pour the oil in so if it has any micro cracks in it oil will come on in without knocking on the door and chill out in your car's ECU. You replace that good job, if you car could talk it would give you a cookie now one more sensor we need to look at, and that's the Crankshaft sensor this not going to lie is not easy to replace take it to the shop so they can do it, you have to take the front part of the exhaust off to get to it :o but well worth the money to have it done :) Now you did the Air-filter so when was the last time you change the Fuel filter think bout it if you have done it over 2 years. Now your car seeing you showing her some love so it do the same and not let you down doing your public display of her an engine that idle so smoothly you cant tell it's even on. Regardless what autozone tries to sell you those fuel additive, dont fall for it Gas boosters, fuel injector cleaners, water removers no no no actually while it do clean the injectors are they promising you it wont mess up your spark plugs. If you ever took a spark plug out and see Yellowish color on the tip, this is the reaction cause by those fuel additives. Autozone not going to tell you that that's why i am. Now Oil additives is a different story and you can call any lexus/toyota dealer and ask is it recommend to add oil additives when changing the oil, now see how you Lexus run if this lil bit free information dosent help you most likly have a car on it's last leg :cries: but lexuses have many legs to walk on :P so trust this Louisiana Native i guarantee ooooohhh boyyy !!! B)
  2. Well actually the power steering fluid uses transmission fluid i know it sounds crazy but if you look at your manual you see it recommends this... really just take your time to replace the simple stuff 1st. and do all your oxygen sensors. replace the camshaft sensor, your water temp sensor and your crankshaft sensor unplug your computer for about 6 mins under your glover compartment then plug it back i promise you see at lease 40% difference i Guarantee...ooooohhhh boyyyy!!!
  3. A while back my Transmission would not shift into overdrive (4th gear) thought it was my transmission going bad. Before this happen that Transmission was shifting real hard, thats before i discovered about replacing the motor mounts and transmission mounts, then it just stop shifting to o.d period. so took it and they kept it overnight found out it was my ECU ( computer) needed to be replace. once he replace it he told me he notice some oily residue where the harness fits in at. He didnt know where it came from but this was the reason my computer wasnt working good oil inside the computer. Maybe it the oil sending unit but when he put new computer in all work fine and i check it no oil sighted so i got happy maybe this wont happen again 2 months later oil in the harness again i took it to another transmission place and they told me maybe your computer getting so hot it's making the residue <_< yea right i thought, so i scan on line to find the answer and it was not hard to fix either.....IF YOU GETTING OIL IN YOUR COMPUTER HARNESS THE REASON IS ......YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR CAMSHAFT SENSOR...THIS IS LOCATED RIGHT BELOW WHERE YOU POUR YOUR OIL IN AT. THE REASON IT LEAKS IS THE PLASTIC OVER TIME CAN GET BRITTLE AND CRACK AND YOU KNOW OIL CAN CREEP INTO ANY LIL SEEP. AFTER I CHANGE THAT CAMSHAFT SENSOR NO RESIDUE FOUND IN THE HARNESS. See I did this myself why other so call mechanics didnt even know where to start.... :P my computer overheating can cuz oil like residue.... whoever told me that need another job
  4. wow man they tearing you up on that soap ish...... real talk you thought soap clean an engine huh.....wow never came to thought metals dont like water, wondering how rust forms? well i hope the engine dont lock on you man and just learn from this many people do no so smart things
  5. I learnt that resetting the computer on the good end gives you more housepower bad end you got to reset everything resetting it like you do your home computer
  6. Redoing my engine again :chairshot: this time the keeping an eye on the mechanic since last time the other mechanic ran off with my money... but do anyone know where i can get maybe used good condition ENGINE WIRING HARNESS for my 1994 ES 300 some of the connectors are broken off and I notice before had the engine pull. My CEL come on like for the thottle body sensor, EGR valve, PNP switch and my knock sensor was coming on right, took it 2 different places and when it came to PNP switch and the Thottle body sensor, they check it and said they were working but the CEL stayed on reset the computer and mention something was wrong with my computer which i got a rebuilt one. Which make me think gotta be the harness wires, now the engine out i look at my harness dont really see expose wires but i have notice broken connectors and even though i cant see any expose wires i think there are some somewhere that i cant see for given false codes, IF ANYONE READING THIS KNOWS SOMEONE OR A PLACE WHERE I CAN GET THIS ENGINE WIRING HARNESS PART # 82121-3320 please let me know thank you
  7. I try 3 things change the Tranmission speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor and this maybe a lil messy but worth it jack your car up safely find the right alan wrench to fit and take off the transmission drain plug, drain all the fluid put that "Seaform for transmission' 1st add the other dexron 2 trans fluid to it run it for 100 miles drain again add new fluid with the lucas transmission additive. and see how she runs with all said spend bout 350 do it yourself
  8. you know i'm having problems out of my cruise control and think it could be the switch shorting out my car in the shop not re doing my engine but when i get it out i'm take it check out the C.C switch when i turn it on it work for a while then shut off.... and as far as the music, got JL audio for the 6x9's which really need 5x8"s but i made another hole to fit, and orions 6 1/2's in the door...need an amp to sound good
  9. Well just about 4 years ago I got me 1994 Lexus Es300, a more over change dealing with American cars. All I had in my life was Fords and Chrysler <_< . When I bought my 1st Lexus from this private owner i'm like finally I'm driving something with a NAME . I know now never get tooo excited about anything. This car which I'm still working on ran good for about 2 days for the engine went out. Obviously this guy use this car and took it on a while ride and like it was a salvage car. Had to replace the engine which i was in such a rush doing, I just took it to the 1st place i saw....what a big mistake. This mechanic in Garland kept my car for over 4 months, :chairshot: telling me he had to do this and that. He gave me a replacement car to drive until he finish. Most times i went up there he rarely was working on my car, then when i sat around for few hours he seem to be putting few things together and took me to where they were doing my heads. He ask me 'do you want me to do the rings, they look good and will cost more i dont think you should replace them' after keeping my car here this long i went on head and agree not to replace them... one of many mistakes i regretted. When i finally got my car out the shop it ran good up until bout 3 months when i notice bluish like smoke coming from the tailpipe. This was the same time few other issues pop off, like my transmission was shifting real hard to my dashboard lights were going out. When i told him of the smoke, told me to use heavier oil. I did that with little result it smoke but not so much and it only smoke when i start the car up. Then i was told to use Oil additives which seem to work for a while but i still was using lot's of oil, by this time i could not reach him so i drove the car like this for a year trying to work on the other few things. After few months the transmission went from shifting hard to not shifting at all. Found out the ECU ( cars computer) went out. Got that replace but car still shift real hard, end up replacing all the motor mounts including the Transmission Mount. Now only 1st gear seem to shift hard guess I need to replace this transmission. but now I got my car at another shop to re due the engine and this time i'm keeping an eye out on this guy which seem to know what he's doing. I ordered the engine rebuilt kit and he showed me that i got the wrong Main Bearings standard I need oversize 010 and this time got the new pistons with the rings, so i mostly going have halfway new engine even lexus can agree i just hope when i get a chance to do my transmission i dont have to do this twice..if i only went back in time and said yes do the pistons and rings.... ha you live and learn right
