How much did you have to pay for the timing belt replacement? What's a reasonable price. My local mechanic stopped my heart when he quoted the service.

Interesting. Sounds like you should check your U-joints, and/or engine/transmission mounts. I have a different phenomena, gear whine fro the transmission when the car is cold. After it gets good and warmed up the whine goes away.
