  1. That was my point on whether or not the collision and the overheating were related. If yes, your insurance should be paying, if not, then I would think it should be under Lexus warranty. Of course if the collision resulted in damage which resulted in the loss of coolant and you never acted upon it for days or weeks, then I can see how neither Lexus or your insurance would foot the bill for repairs.
  2. What state do you live in? Finding a new RX300 is going to be tough. You could try going to autonation.com and do a search for all regions for a new RX300. When I do the search it shows 6 available. Give those dealers a call, you might be able to land a great deal if those cars are still actually available. Good luck.
  3. Are the two events, the overheating/blown engine and bump from collision related?
  4. The owners manual recommends oil changes at either every 5000 or 7500 miles. 5000 would be the heavy duty cycle and 7500 is considered the normal. I see nothing wrong with following the manufacturers recommendation in this case. My Lexus dealers recommends changes at every 5000, but then again the more they see you the more money they get. On a side note, on my other truck, a Ford Explorer, I do change the oil approximately every 3000-4000 miles. Ford's recommendation is 3000 miles for heavy duty cycle and 5000 for normal.
  5. I don't believe you can use the lock button to auto close the windows and sunroof. However, you can insert the key into the door lock and turn and hold in the lock position to auto close the windows and sunroof. As for changing the alarm to one button unlock all, tell your service adviser you want to change one of your CBEST settings. Here's additional FYI for all RX300 owners. What is C-Best and the C-Best settings for the RX 300? C-BEST system stands for "Customized Body Electronics" System. It is a system that allows customization through the dealer's handheld tester with C-BEST cartridge installed. The variables that are available for customization are as follows: Wireless Door Lock Remote Control Wireless operation Yes* / No Door ajar warning beeper Yes* / No Automatic Lock operation 30s* / 60s All door unlock (one press) On / Off* All door unlock (2 presses) On* / Off Panic Alert Operation On* / Off Door Lock Control (Key) All door unlock (key turn 1x) On / Off* All door unlock (key turn 2x) On* / Off Illuminated Entry Light Illum time 7.5s / 15s* / 30s Interior lights illum on key unlock On* / Off Automatic Lights Sensitivity -40%/-20%/0%*/+20%/+40% Control logic switchover New(type 1)* / Prev (type 2) Theft deterrent Passive arming On / Off* Vehicle horn and security horn On* / Off Entry delay time switch 0s / 14s* / 30s Power window system Key-linked open On* / Off Key-linked close On* / Off *denotes default factory setting It takes the dealer about 10-15 minutes to change any or all items. 1. Connect meter to DLC3 port 2. Turn on ignition 3. Go to "Customize" menu to make selections. Most dealers do not charge for this service.
  6. You can check for recalls and other service bulletins here. Click on the appropriate link for either 2WD or AWD. http://www.alldata.com/TSB/9974_mo.html
  7. Nick, I believe these steps should work for your harrier. I'm unclear though on what exactly is the problem you are having.
  8. RickC, 20-22 mpg with a car full of passengers plus loaded with luggage, a stuffed cargo carrier creating bad aerodynamics, and speeds at 80-85 mph is pretty damn good. Its very doubtful that any car can hit it's rated mpg under these conditions. On the other hand, driving just yourself, no cargo, no cargo carrier, at about 55-60 mph will more then likely meet or exceed your cars rated mpg. My RX300 gets between 24-27 mpg if I drive it between 50-60 mph on the highway.
  9. I'll try and answer your questions as accurate as possible. 1) You cannot use a precut key from another Lexus to turn on your engine. You would only be able to use the keyless entry feature, after they are programmed, to lock and unlock the doors. To start the engine, the key needs to be cut for your car and the key must be programmed into your car's ECU. 2) I'm unsure about the FCC ID, but if you are buying it from a Lexus dealer, they require (if I remember correctly) your car's VIN# so that the key can be cut properly to fit into your locks. Maybe the FCC ID refers to two little tags that the Lexus dealer gives you with your set of keys that are to be used for reordering spares. 3) Your key is mostly likely a Valet key if you cannot lock/unlock your glove compartment. Hope this helps and enjoy your new ride!
  10. Check out this thread to see how the RX330 rims would look on an RX300. The images are photoshopped, but you get the idea. The pics are about half way down the thread. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...&threadid=78512
  11. Another good Lexus message board is... http://www.clublexus.com/forums/index.php
  12. The RX 330 looks really good in black! Enjoy your ride!
  13. truonsi1, I have an RX300. It gets about 20.5 mpg driving about 40% city - 60% highway. When cruising on the highway it's mpg ranges from 21-26 depending on speed without cruise control. It seems that I can better control the efficiency then the cruise control.
  14. Welcome RX-Lan, Those instructions are for programming the remote lock/unlock feature of a master remote key. Those instructions should work on all '99-'03 RX300s. I don't believe they are for the new '04 RX330s though. To program a new key to be able to start the engine, follow these steps. Programming replacement keys. 1998 and up Lexus models 1. Enter the car with a working pre-programmed key and close all doors. Simultaneously depress and release both the brake and the accelerator pedals. 2. Within 5 seconds, insert the working pre-programmed key into the ignition. Do not turn the key. 3. Within 15 seconds of inserting the ignition key, depress and release the accelerator pedal 5 times. 4. Within 20 seconds, depress and release the brake pedal 6 times. 5. Within 10 seconds, remove the working pre-programmed key from the ignition. 6. Within 10 seconds, insert the newly cut transponder key into the ignition. 7. Depress and release the accelerator pedal one time. The security light should now begin flashing to indicate that the computer is reading the new key and programming the system. 8. Leave the new key in the ignition for at least 60 seconds. When the security light stops flashing, the programming process should be complete 9. Start the vehicle using the new key to verify that programming was successful. Failing on these steps simply means the new key was not successfully added/programmed. It should not damage your working master or the ECU. It might take you a couple of tries to get down the timing for this to work.
  15. Welcome to the board nq. To answer your questions, if a locksmith can cut an uncut key, then all the better for you, but not every locksmith can. In a previous post, rsml51 said "...a locksmith with a laser cut machine can cut the key for you. Not all have it, because it is expensive. It cost me $30 to get the key cut." Otherwise, precut keys matched to your VIN can be purchased from Lexus dealers and a couple of other places I think. A new key would need to be programmed in two ways. The first thing you would need to do is program the key to be able to start the engine. The other programming step is to enable the remote lock and unlock feature if you obtained a 2nd remote master key. For part 1 follow these steps. Now to program the remote ability go to this thread. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=ST&f=5&t=1916& Good luck! B)
  16. Quick question, do you have the FWD or AWD version? 20/26 is the rating for the FWD only. The AWD's rating is less. Also how are you recording your mileage? For highway driving, a good way to test would be to drive the same route preferably over a longer distance and reset the avg mpg reading after you have hit highway speeds.
  17. 1200 pounds is safely under the max towing capacity of the RX. RX300s with the tow package did come with a larger radiator and I do believe a transmission cooler. Although you may not need the transmission cooler, it definitely wouldn't hurt to have it. No suspension mods would be needed. And with only 1200 pounds, the RX should still have decent power.
  18. Mit, One other thing, according to code991, he/she was going to get $3000 off MSRP. That's a very good price for an RX330 these days. The prices that you have been quoted look to be around $2000 off MSRP give or take a couple of hundred. That's still good pricing, but obviously not as good as 3K off. If you are willing to shop around further and if Longo's mobile services is of little interest to you, I've heard good things about Crown Lexus in Ontario, CA. Take a look at these 2 threads from another Lexus board. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...&threadid=84987 (Read the 1st post from Jedi) http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...&threadid=82108 (Take a look at the post from Chad) It may be worth it to contact Chad with Crown Lexus. I hope you will be able to get the Lexus you want at a great price. Let us know who you ultimately but from and how much off MSRP you were able to get.
  19. Here's how Longo's Mobile Services work. Longo, like most Lexus dealers, has a fixed price sheet for how much services cost. Say you plan to service your Lexus for your 10K service. At the set price, you can either drive your car up and wait for service or you can make use of their mobile service. Longo will send a mobile service truck to your home or work and will do the 10K service on the spot. Makes it convenient for you. Now say you need to do a 30K service, which I believe is considered a major service. If you opt for the mobile service, Longo takes a flatbed truck with a loaner car on it, drops off the loaner at your home or work, loads your Lexus on the flatbed, then takes it back to Longo for the service. Once service is complete, they return your Lexus via the flatbed truck and then haul back their loaner. It's very convenient. Again, there is no additional charge for their mobile service, aside from the regular price you would pay for a scheduled service. As for the RX that I have, we actually bought one of the closeout 2003 RX 300's the week before the RX 330's arrived. So pricing and options info probably wouldn't serve as an affective comparison.
  20. Remote (key) Transmitter PROGRAMMING NOTE: The remote keyless entry system is equipped with 2 transmitters, having 2 unique vehicle access codes programmed into the wireless door lock ECU. MODES OF REGISTRATION (PROGRAMMING) There are 4 registration modes: Add Mode: Adds a transmitter without erasing existing transmitter codes. Four transmitter codes can be registered at one time. If number of registered codes exceeds 4, previously registered codes are erased in order, starting with first registered code. Rewrite Mode: Erases all previously registered transmitter codes and reprogram new transmitters. Confirmation Mode: Informs user of number of existing transmitter codes already programmed in system. Prohibition Mode: Erases all existing registered transmitter codes and cancels wireless door lock operation. Use this function if transmitter is lost or stolen. REGISTRATION OF RECOGNITION CODE 1) To begin programming, remove key from ignition switch. Ensure driver’s door is open and unlocked, and all other doors are closed. Insert key into ignition switch, and then remove it. Go to next step. 2) Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: press door lock switch to LOCK position, and then within one second, press door lock switch to UNLOCK position. Repeat procedure continuously until door locks have been locked and unlocked 5 times. Close, and then open driver’s door. Go to next step. 3) Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: repeat procedure in step 2), except~ for closing and opening driver’s door. Insert key into ignition switch. To enter desired mode, turn ignition switch to ON position and back to LOCK position (one cycle), within one second, the specified number of times. See REGISTRATION MODE SELECTION table. Remove key from ignition switch. Go to next step. REGISTRATION MODE SELECTION Registration Mode No. Of Ignition Switch Cycles --------------------------------------- Add 1 Rewrite 2 Confirmation 3 Prohibition 5 --------------------------------------- 4) If any mode other than confirmation mode •is selected, go to next step. If confirmation mode was selected, door locks will cycle 0-4 times depending on how many transmitter codes are stored in ECU. Example: two stored codes equals 2 door lock/unlock cycles. Registration of confirmation code is complete after door locks cycle. 5) Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: if add mode, rewrite mode or prohibition mode is selected, to confirm proper initiation, door locks will automatically cycle one time for add mode, 2 times for rewrite mode and 5 times for prohibition mode. Press transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for at least 1.5 seconds, and then within 3 seconds, press any transmitter button for at least one second. Go to next step. 6) If within 3 seconds, door locks’ cycle one time, new transmitter code has been successfully accepted. Go to next step. If door locks cycle 2 times, new transmitter code was not accepted. To program an additional transmitter or to make a second attempt, return to step 5) within 40 seconds. 7) Registration of recognition codes is complete under any of the following conditions: l~ * Forty seconds has elapsed since wireless door lock ECU has responded. * Driver’s door is closed. * Key is inserted in the ignition key cylinder. * Four recognition codes are registered at one time. Good luck!
  21. mit, Keep in mind Longo Lexus' mobile services. Your salesman should have mentioned it to you. Personally I think the service is a big plus. That's where we got our RX. We also had the best price from them and they had our first color choice in stock so it was a no brainer.
  22. From what I have read on other threads and forums, the metal key portion is not replaceable in the way you would want. rsml51 stated this in a previous post. "Can tell you that the metal part of the key cannot be removed. I made the mistake of buying one on ebay for $40, thinking I could replace the key part and reprogram the remote part, because someone on ebay had said this could be done. It can't. better off buying a new blank. " Your best bet is ordering a blank key that is cut for your specific vehicle. Programming the remote is pretty well documented so that shouldn't be an issue. Read this link and it's subsequent posts and see if it helps you out further. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...eplacement+Keys
  23. Did you mean, you want to add two additional speakers or replace the current speakers? If you are planning on adding two more and keeping the current ones, how would you power the new speakers? If you are replacing, that shouldn't be an issue, so long as your speakers fit in the current factory cutouts.
  24. Read skikayaker's Audiophile post. That should answer your question.
