Senna, i dont knwo why, but i love your ES...always so clean. just all around a beautiful car. keep her that way... AND FOR GODS SAKE, DONT FORGET THE PCV VALVE!!! :) nice house too...
-
Uh, miles per tank is not a very accurate measurement. :D ← from those of us who are too lazy to calculate, and dont have a computer in out cars to tell us what the mileageis, it will have to do LOL ;)

You Won't Believe This!

now that it is over, let's maintain some maturity and just let this thread slowly slip down the page. steviej ← dont make im lock it guys, i agree with steviej here, let it go, she obviously had some issues with mood swings etc...but its over... -
oh, i knew what an EGR was, but not an engagement valve LOL. thanks for clarifying. off i go, back on the road.
-
engagement valve?? forgive my n00bness, but i have never heard this term before...
-
that discounts the worn steering rack , you will notice that on a winding road, you will turn the steering wheel halfway and the car wont turn for almost half a rotation. kind of dangerous. so thats not your problem. i would lean toward a decompressed strut myself, because the other struts can pick up the slack. i am assuming these are gas filled struts. as for your acceleration issue, do a complete tune up and see if it gets better.

its an LS430?? with rust??? how old is it??
-
My 98 gets between 23.8 to 24.4 in town (and to work) Highway is around 28.1 to 29.7 (with cruise at 75mph). At half tank it is around 200 to 210 miles. Only use 87octane. ← 205 last fillup, i still had 1/4 tank. **Disclaimer** My car is 15 years old and in severe disrepair, please pay no attention to the fact that i only get 220 miles to a tank fo gas...that is all!

my bad due, i feel so bad abut that. about my bro, you probably havent had a fight like this...ill PM you, it doesnt belog in this thread...
-
ok man, you know what, we both need to chill here, i jumped to conclusions...my fault. i didnt mean to *BLEEP* you off, and i seriosuly dont know what came over me, other than the fact that im a little drunk and just had a HUGE fight with my younger brother about how he is the most arrogant cuss and how the world doesnt revlove around him. but thats besides the point. i jumped to conclusiouns and assumed you meant something that you didnt mean. my fault entierly. ill edit my post and you can edit yours if you wish.... my bad man. 100% my fault. i guess i really dont have a point now , i had a point, if in fact you were calling me a liar (which you arent) that my car is 15 years old so i have no idea what has been done to it, just like you said LOL. thats the issue with internet boards, it can be SO hard to understand how people mean things when they say them. i apologize for being out of line. we cool? Overdrive Light Started Blinking, Then One Second
ArmyofOne replied to trafukin's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
jason, at JP Imports has told me something similar on old trannies. you cant flush them. he also said that (on my particular car) Lexus doesnt even reccomend a flush, at ANY point in the vehicles life. on old transmissions, the bands that are in betwwen the gears deteriorate. when they do, they pick up particles from old, broken down trans fluid. when you flush the trans, the flush takes all fo the old particles out, and the tranny will slip as a result. thats the best way i can describe it, btu you have to have some working knowledge of an Auto trans before you can understand it. i dont even fully understand it myself, but thats the way i was told. -
**POST DELETED** i jumped the gun, sorry all.
-
well if the sludge has already occured it will not run right. take off the oil cap and look inside the valve cover, if you cant see anything thjat looks like grape jam (only brown instead of purple) you are probably OK, but to be sure i woudl have it checked by lexus. thats the only way i know of to check it...

Not yet. Pick it up on Monday afternoon so I'll see what I can do if I get home before dark. I kind of expected better service from the dealer, though. Granted, I didn't buy the car from them, but SOMEBODY has to work on it. So does ANYBODY ave any idea about this phone? Searched the threads but didn't find much. I did learn about the nav system though... :) ← i work for motorola...since this is not ananalog phone, im pretty sure any cellular service can work with it. i know a guy i work with, has a motorola car phone in a 99 LS400, and it has SBC service, so i know it can be had. "Dan" is the test driver for our 1999 LS400. Unfortunately, we cant get him out of the car. If you know him, please call him on his cell at 555-6936. Tel him his kids miss him and stuff...and his wife says he's in big trouble. [/audi commercial] :D

VBdenny, There are two lights that have a relation to your engine oil. 1) Low Oil Pressure Warning Light (gas can with a tear drop of gas coming out) 2) Low Engine Oil Level Warning Light (gas can with what looks like water underneath it) If you're getting the light with a gas can and what looks like a tear drop of oil (or some other fluid) coming out of the tip of the gas can then you need to either clean or replace your oil pressure sensor. (1st light above) If you're getting the light with a gas can and what looks like water (or some other fluid) underneath it then add engine oil as soon as possible (back to full). These things are very sensitive. (2nd light above) I had the first problem and all I did was drain my engine oil, remove the oil pan gasket, replace the gasket, removed the oil pressure sensor and cleaned it off VERY well with a little water and assembled everything back together. No more light and no more problems. The oil pressure sensor may be cheap but at Lexus and Toyota it isn't. But if you don't want to DIY and get a lil' dirty then go to a trusted mechanic and have him replace the oil pan gasket and see if he can clean off your oil pressure sensor...if you're getting the 1st light I descibed above that is. Then again, even if you're getting the low engine oil level light it still wouldn't hurt to get a new oil pan gasket and clean off your oil pressure sensor or get a new one. Hope this helps. ← not sure about the LS400, but in my ES250, it has to be WAY low to come on, like about 1/4th of a quart under the add line. when i took delivery, it was that low, and the light was not on...

well all i knwo is mine had one. it wasnt an ES250 one, so what? it was broke, i took it out, it has only a cassete/Am?FM in the car, btu the cassette doesnt work.

Considering 1993 G@300
ArmyofOne replied to ArmyofOne's topic in 93 - 05 Lexus GS300 / GS400 / GS430
i ran the carfax...it has a salvage title...that would do it... i asked the dealer. they said it was hit on the passenger side by a minivan and recently fixed. it drives ok, but he said the B-pillar had to be replaced, so i am VERY cautious. i havent totally ruled it out yet, but... -
couold be a worn rack and pinion, about wat speed do ytou have issues with it. the outer tie rods are also an issue here, but as was previously said, easily replaceable. which dierection does the car wander, if it wasners in both directions, then the problem is either in the tie rod ends, or the inner tie rod bushings (AKA Steering rack). Approx $1300 P&L on my ES. if it only pulls one way, i would guess you have a decompressed front strut (assuming they are gas from factory). decomressed struts will often pass a bounce test, becuase the other side is taking the load. this is especially true if you have a Front Strut Tower Brace (FSTB). this is a bar that bolts on each tower and across the top of the motor, to reduce body roll and smooth out the ride.
-
Anything is possible. :D I don't think that this project is for the average person, unless they have the electronic knowledge to do it. I would check the feasability of doing this at a car audio installer. I'm sure they'll tell you that you have to replace your factory radio, rather then rewiring it. P.S. I'm almost sure that a changer option was not offered as an option in 1990 ES's. ← i think it was an option, but very few had it. mine had one, i took it out, cause it was broken (the motor on the turning thingy blew out) i was told it was goig to be over $100 to fix, by 4 different people. i sold it in a garage sale for $20. :P there is even the moutning hardware, wiring and the slot for it in the trunk. EDIT: then again, maybe not, mine may have been from an LS400 of the similar year...hmm, i will ask the previous owner about that...

ArmyofOne replied to Vicki_in_Florida's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
no...it was the day before... :D -
it does. people sue over the stupidest stuff. i heard one time about a guy that tried to sue M&M's/Mars because he bit into a peanut M&M, and there was no peanut, he bit hard expecting one, adn bit his lip. so he sued...i dont know if it was true or not, i heard it from a coworker...but its stuff liek that that makes insurance (both car, hom and malpractice types) so hard to acquire.

if you have driven the car AT all, with the new cluster in, unless you reset the trip odo before you moved so much as a foot, your mileage will be off enough to get you in trouble...a few miles may seem like no big deal to you, but i almost bought an oldsmobile once that had had the odo rolled back (CARFAX to the rescue!) it actually had 259,XXX miles, and the odometer said 145,864.
-
has some peeling clearcoat, but nothing too bad, on the rear by the antenna. Asking $6,750 with a 3 month warranty. i ALMOST traded in the ES 250 on it today...opinions? i need to go back and get the VIN # and run the carfax...but it is a nice car, green, w/ beige leather, in excellent condition inside...i wonder why its so cheap? mileage was ~ 110,000 IIRC. are these good cars? what can i expect from them performance wise? i will be upgrading to one eventually, so these answers will not go wasted!
-
SK, could it be as simple as taking the speedo out of the new cluster and putting the old speedo in there?? if its an analog Odometer that is, if its digital, then we just entered a whole other playing field. but if its analog, on my contour at least, all you had to do was use your old speedo (since the odometer #'s are in there).
-
yeah im trying to shy away from old cars... i will have to drive it before i decide, and of courtse sell mine (i'll take $1500, like anyone at this site wants that car... , but ya never know.) UPDATE: this is crazy, but my ATX Dipstick reads bone dry. JPI Just serviced it yesterday, and Jason noticed today the dipstick had no fluid, so he added about 1 qt. and poof! there it was, at the warm level. i drove it home, maybe an hour, and i check it when i arrive...no fluid on the stick...WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? to make matters worse, there si no ATF on the ground in front of my house (only oil) and the car drives incredible. the shifts arent clunky, there is no slip...where the hell has the fluid gone? is this a toyota thing?
