Detailed The Civic, In Time For The Salt And Slush...
ArmyofOne replied to ArmyofOne's topic in General Chat
One of my favorite mods...showing my pride: and last but not least, the dreaded right side of the car...i never like to show it...and you will see why in a min... EDIT: oh, and these will be going on before the snow hits, i just have to order 2 more: -
Said nothing about any other makes. So rather than break forum rules I'll post where I know its ok. Well, I started at about 11am, I'm kinda picky so this took awhile. That and the distractions from the wife, the kid (not mine, my sister's) and the dog...Well let me just say finally, by 5pm, I was happy with the results. I also took off each wheel and cleaned it thoroughly with soapy water and an old rag (which i later threw away) and gave them a coat of Megs Cleaner Wax. I also took the time while the wheels were off to complete my Rust-Resistant Undercoating using Permatex Underbody Coating I got from the shop at work. But here we go, I used: Megs Deep Crystal Auto Shampoo Megs All Wheel Cleaner Megs Clay Kit Megs Aerosol QD Megs Microfibers Permatex No-Touch Wet 'n Protect aerosol Tire Shine Kit Scratch-Out (for ****s and giggles, the finish is virtually flawless, I pride myself on that.) and Megs Gold Class Paste to seal the deal. Some Metal Flake shots: ^what is it about bugs and freshly waxed cars? is there an unspoken rule?!

LOL thank god they didnt need us...but the war aint over yet....
-
Really, i had no idea. Thanks Steve, once again, you learn'd me somethin LOL. Anyone know anything about these tires?
-
Nor am I, but Brandon at TireRack recommended them, and they have very high ratings on the net... as far as speed rating...why is that important? i dont plan to do 130+ (H rating) in my civic...LOL
-
3,000 10th Mountain Division Soldiers (myself included) are on a 12 hr Deployment Activation Alert Status (DAAS)...so i will be there minutes after the storm is over if Federal Agencies deem our presence is needed.

Does it have to be a lexus? Or can the honda guys get some love too? :( I have been a member a really long time on this site, and a valued one too (i would hope).
-
Nor I. What i would reccomend is Mother's Back to Black for your application. a $7.50 cent bottle lasts about a year for a normal person, i go through it in 3 months.
-
What are your thoughts on these tires, I have 2 of them in 205/55/16 89H and i will be purchasing 2 more in the next month or so. the only reason im buying 2 at a time instead of 4 is i found a set of 2 on craigslist. they were on a car that was rear ended and totalled, front tires were new (1,000 miles) and rear tires were both flat. so i took the pair off his hands for $75. I did 6 months of research on tires, But everything i have read on the net and elsewhere has told me Comfortread is the best you an get for no road noise and that there is no better tire for comfort for the price, period. and thats what I'm looking for. thoughts?

Tires on the civic? Goodyear Assurance ComforTread in 205/55/16 89H...tires on the cavalier, i dont really care, they are factory 15 inch steelie wheels, so probably some $40 walmart special from douglas radial or something...who cares LOL. Yes, I will be training at the Joint Reserve Training Center at Fort Polk starting the first week of october for 15 days. How are you blake? you should call me man, you got the house #. if not PM me.

its only seen salt one winter. actually about half of one, the rest of this cars life was spent in virginia beach. im not buying it and parking the civic, i wish i could, but i cant. my wife has a full time job now, so i need 2 cars, and she has the 50 mile per day commute...so she gets the reliable, comfortable, kickass gas mileage havin' civic, and i get the not-as-good-on-gas, needs-a-little-work-but-is-relaible car for my 5 mile per day commute. everywhere i go throughout a days time im never more than a 2 mile walk from my home. so if my car breaks down, thats what the army gave me boots for. :D

I found a 1996 Chevy Cavalier. I actually detailed it some time ago, and the person is now offering it to me for $1,000. Its clean, needs paint, very minor rust (which in NY is no big deal on a winter beater) and passes NYS Emissions. It runs drives and looks pretty decent. It is black, with A/C, Auto trans, and thats about it. I know its a chevy and one of the worst cars interior wise, but i need a junker to putter around on post with. A few pix- When i detailed the car in may, I debaged it at the owners request. I talked with the owner some more today, and here is the plan. He is taking the car on one last trip to Virginia to see his wife and son. While home, he will be putting on 4 new tires, new brake pads on the front, window tint (DIY) and a fresh oil change (which wasnt originally part of the deal, bear in mind this was his idea.) When he returns from leave on September 14th, He wants me to pay him $500 and take posession. He then wants me to keep the other $500 in escrow for 30 days. If something major goes wrong with the car in 30 days, he will forfeit the $500 and i will fix with that money. If nothing goes wrong, then on November 14th, I will pay him the remaining $500. (Again, his idea). Even with the new tires and brakes, the price remains the same. $1000. I got the go ahead from the war dept (wife) today, so we are going ahead with the plan :). The car has no leaks, and needs no repair whatsoever. The only drawback is this...146,000 miles (will be ~148,000 by the time i take delivery). What do you guys think? I still have the 06 EX and will continue to maintain it with love. My wife just needs a car to drive to work, and so do i. since she has to drive 50 miles round trip to work and i have to drive 5...she gets the reliable, comfortable, more fuel effecient

So Im driving on the interstate right (I-81 SB Between Watertown NY and Syracuse) and I am in the fast lane, im doing about 80. Behind me from out of nowhere comes this silver Nissan Murano...he is right on my bumper. i moved over after about 30 seconds (passing a semi) and he pulled up next to me...then he does the unthinkable... he SWERVES at my drivers side with his SUV. I swerve right onto the shoulder to avoid him hitting me and My tires catch the edge of the pavement. It all happens so fast, i compensate to get back on the road and the force (by this time, im not sure how fast im going, but i know i have slowed down) spins me in a circle across the freeway (right shoulder to center median). I end up nose first in the grass, which is a marsh from the rain, in a ditch. THE DOUCHEBAG DID NOT EVEN STOP. I called the police and filed a report, and a nice motorist with an F150 pulled me out of the mud with my tow rope. so far the only damage is my shattered nerves and an alignment. the grass turned to mud when my tires hit it, i guess it was fortunate it wasnt any deeper than my ankles. I have the worst luck...but in a way, i have the best luck, cause that could have been a WHOLE lot worse... i was doing 80, he came up on my !Removed! doing at least 100...i would hate to be in his shoes when he gets pulled over some day. i know if i was a cop and i pulled someone over in an SUV doing 100+ for no apparent reason... sorry, just had to rant.

i love my optima red top. i have had THE SAME battery in every car, its been through 2 car accidents (front end destroyers), I LOVE IT. It was first in a ford contour, then in an ES250, then in the ZX-2, then in the 05 Matrix and is now in the civic. thats...7 years of the same battery! 800CCA's, 1000CA's and plenty reliable.

I have a question...if crude is over $120 a barrel (closer to 130 now i think...) and a gallon of gasoline is $3.99 on average... WHY IN THE NAME OF BARRY BONDS' *BLEEP*... is regular valvoline 5w-20 motor oil still 3.50 a quart? cause thats the same price it was 3 years ago... i use mobil 1, im just sayin...and it really hasnt gone up either, maybe a few cents... but a 20 oz. bottle of mt dew cost $1.50 at the machine...on average, .50 cents more than it did even a year ago...

Detailed- 1996 Chevy Cavalier
ArmyofOne replied to ArmyofOne's topic in Lexus Detailing and Car Care Forum
After a washing, but before wax, we decided the door trim and ESPECIALLY those goofy SS vinyl's that were on the car when he bought it for $500 had to go especially since everyone knows that in 1996...they didnt make an SS cavalier...or any year that i know of for that matter. only the Z24 and it had a factory body kit, manual trans and a whole slew of other goodies (RIMS) that this car doesnt have. oh, and he wanted to go naked steel wheels instead of hubcaps...whatever dude, your car LOL. We also debadged. After wash, clay and Megs. ScratchX and...the final product: He says he is going to DIY some tint next weekend, and that will be about all he wants to do besides maintain it. not bad for a winter beater (salt sux) His other car is a honda S2K Materials used: Megs Gold Class Soap Megs Claybar Megs Quick Detailer Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover Goo Gone Megs ScratchX Megs ColorX Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound Turtle Wax Polishing Compound Megs #16 Megs #24 some off brand paint sealant i got at wal-mart...we will see how it works Coleman Orbital Polisher Fine Steel wool 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit sandpaper Simple Green Megs Hot Shine tire shine and i think thats it. LOL I dont have a PC, but i do have a coleman...and it works wonders too. i could do more with a PC, but i am still doing my research on which one to purchase. -
Ok first, allow me to start by saying, this was a GIANT undertaking, as you will see in the pix. This was a paint restoration, and I am still not done, this will be a 2 parter that i will complete later this week. The bottom line is, i know some of you think i wasted my time and product on this car, but when you hear the story, you will see why i agreed. A coworker of mine bet me i could not fix the paint on his 96 cavi. (this coming after a confident detailer...myself...was conversing with another coworker/client and he overheard). I told him i was confident i can fix most things, but there are some things only a repaint can fix. he bet me $100 and a 30gb Zune MP3 Player (I have an ipod, but what the hey). he paid up front and we got started on friday. here are some before pix:

Well, as many of you know, when i got back from iraq, i sold my 2002 Ford Escort ZX-2 to my brother. I am helping him mod it, even further than i had, and here are a few teaser pix: ^who can guess what that is? ^17x7.5 Drag DR-11's in Gunmetal, wrapped in 225/45/ZR17 rubber. ^Front Bumper, kit is a KGS Engineering "Boomer" Fiberglass kit. ^rear bumper of the kit ^side skirts Interior has been done with Subaru WR Blue Paint on the trim, as have the brake calipers. 12" powerAkoustik taking place of the rear seat (there is NO seat) Pioneer DVD HU 12" Fusion in trunk bunch of other audio stuff, but thats his dept, i do engine, trans and suspension. after the kit, eibach coilovers are next! car is already fast enough ;)

"shamwow" Towels To Dry The Car
ArmyofOne replied to LexKid630's topic in Lexus Detailing and Car Care Forum
All that, I just look for any scrathes. But this is from a person whom drinks clear/clean water. :D  Go to some detailing sites and get some better towels. I use a product from wal mart called "The Absorber". Works great, and i have had 0 issues with paint scratching.
