  1. ← Dude, thats were I have been shopping. There are no QUALITY 1998 GS400's for high teen listed with AROUND 42k miles. Not trying to be a d!ck, but would like factual responces. Not just "I think it's tooo much" with no fact to base it on. ← ← I purchased a 98 GS400 in September of 04. I paid $21,500. The car had 47,000 miles and was equipped with the nav package, 17" factory chrome wheels and the factory spoiler. Silver exterior with the light gray interior. Car was in like new condition but needed tires. I couldn't be happier with the car or the price. Very difficult to find a low mileage GS400.

  3. Is there a way to check the condition of a timing belt or do we just assume they're at the end of their useful life and replace them?
  4. What was the age of your GS when it reached 80,000 miles? I guess my concern is whether the belt deteriorates much with age, or is it basically miles that wear them out. I know that radiator hoses never seem to need replacement on Lexus products. I replaced the radiator in my SC400 with 150.000 mile and the radiator shop said the hoses would go 400,000 miles. Just wondered if the timing belts can can go 80 to 90,000 miles irrespective of age. Thanks
  5. I'm the new owner of a 98 GS400 and I have a quick question. The car has 50,000 miles and has been well maintained. Do I wait until 90,000 miles to replace the timing belt, or should it be done now given the age of the car? Is there a way to check the condition of the belt short of replacement? If the safest route is replacement, would you recommend changing the water pump and belt tensioners at the same time? Appreciate the help.
  6. Had a little accident on top of the cup holder cover in our 98 GS400!!! My dear wife dropped a couple of drops of nail polish remover, and when I went to wipe them up, I now have a cup holder with the finish removed in an area about the size of a nickel. Is there any "easy" was to have this repaired? Would a detail shop be able to cover this up? If I need to remove the cover, can someone tell me how it's done without removing the entire console? I may be on the way to my friendly dealer to buy a new cover if that's my only option. Sure appreciate the help.
  7. I need some help. I'm fairly new to the Club, and just recently purchased a beautiful 98 GS400. My wife accidentally dropped some nail polish remover on the top of the cup holder cover, and when I wiped it off, it took off the finish in an area about the size of a nickel. Looks pretty ugly. Anybody have any ideas as to what my options might be. Is there a way to have the cover repainted, and if so where would I find a paint code. Secondly, does anyone know how to remove the cover from the console without disassembling the entire console? I guess my last option would be to order a new cover from my friendly Lexus dealer. I haven't checked with them yet, but it may be difficult to come by the part. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks
  8. I'm new to the club, and am in the process of buying a 98 GS400. The car has the factory nav system with a cd changer in the glove compartment. How can I tell if the stereo is the Nakamichi unit? There's no identification on the stack as is the case with the non-naviagtion cars. Do I have to count speakers? Thanks.
