  1. I just blew it out with my air compressor after soaking it it in hot water for a few minutes. 100 PSI will blow out any particles. It looked brand new afterwards. It was black and totally choked with dirt before and it was totally white afterwards. I was actually surprised it worked. The filter is made out of woven polypropylene, and is extremely durable. It seems like one could do this for the life of the filter.
  2. My 2000 RX300 is gone. It was a fully loaded AWD with every option except the hitch. It had front and rear brush guards. It had 79K was black and had a few dents, was keyed up a little. It did run great. I just had the rear main seal replaced at Lexus. It sold for $16.5K The people who bought it were extremely happy. I picked up a 1999 ML320 with 57k for $14.2k. I am also extremely happy. It turns out I'm really a Mercedes man. Lexus wasnt really my thing, although my wife loved it. Thanks for all of the helpfull hints etc, since last year. You guys are great. Good luck with all of your RX's Thanks Mike
  3. I brought my 4 year old RX to Ralley in Glen Cove which I didnt even buy there for warranty work, and I got a brand spankin new RX330 as a loaner. I think the car had like 38 miles on it. Ralley is a class act dealership. Highly recommended!
  4. I just put my 2000 RX300 up for sale. Its a black AWD with moon roof, leather, Nakamichi, 6CD changer, and the LTD package heated seats etc. I have the front and rear dealer installed WAAG brush guards. It has 79K miles. I just had a new rear main seal installed. It runs like a top, and I have had no major issues with it. But here's the thing, Its a little scratched up. Someone keyed the front fender down to the metal. There are also some small digs and bumper rash as most New York City cars have. I put it in the paper today for $17,600. This is considerably less than others in todays paper. One madman wants almost 24K for one with 51k miles. Do you guys think my price is fair? I would be happy with $17K I'm located in Long Island.
  5. I have an 2000 RX300. Recently the throttle needs excessive force to be depressed while at rest. It seems to get worse as the car warms up. I lubed up the entire cable and throttle assemblies. It didnt do much good. Is there any way to adjust the cable? It seems kind of loose. I see a set screw on the throttle. Will this tighten up the cable. The throttle itself iseems fine, its just the resistance on the initial depression of the pedal. Any ideas?
  6. The rear main seal is covered by the Lexus secret warranty up to 70K miles. I just had my 200 rx300 with 68K done for free and they even gave me loaner rx330 with 48 miles on it for 5 days. You dont need an extended warranty or CPO to cover this if the car has less that 70K. Ive had mine 7-weeks and have no idea what the service history was. The service manager even checked out the engine for the notorious sludge issue by pulling off the valve cover. The engine is clean as a whistle. Id have to say I was very satisfied by Lexus service.
  7. Just had the main rear seal replaced and the friggin thing is still leaking. I started doing some research and came across a Toyota bulletin explaining issues regarding clogged PVC valves. http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h63.pdf It seems that if this PCV thing cloggs, it can result in excessive oil pressure inside the engine. This can result in oil leak out of the rear seal. This seems reasonable since my mechanic just put in a new seal, and he said the old one looked just fine, although it did seem to be leaking on the outside diameter of the seal. After trolling around some ather forums regarding the infamous oil sludge problem and leaking rear seal issues, there seems to be a general consensus regarding the notorious PCV valve. It should be changed every year or 12k miles. There are various explanations as to why the sludgging happens and it all seems pretty reasonable. Sounds good to me, but where is the PCV exactly. I know its on the valve cover somewhere. Do I have to take off the cool plastic cover on the engine to get at it? It would really be Murphys law if a $10 part is my solution.
  8. I only saw a recent inspection sticker. I didnt even get an owners manual, which by the way is available for free through the LEXUS web site. I didnt even get a key for the lug locks. I got one through Mcguard which is a top knotch company. I made an imprint of the lock faxed it over to them and had the lug lock key in 3 days for 10$ plus shipping. Im not worried about the maintenance though. Lexus seems to make cars that last 200K.
  9. Does anyone know where I can find a safari bar for my 2000 RX300. I currently have a full brush guard by WAAG on the truck and its pretty beefy. Westin makes a safari bar but not for the RX. Any suggestions?
  10. Hi All: Just picked up a 2000 RX300 at a bank reposessed auction. The truck has 72K, every option and Waag grill guard and rear guard. The car is a little scratched up and only came with one key. The interior is spotless. We paid $15K. The car does have some issues. The rear main seal needs to be replace at a cost of about $500, which should take about a day for my mechanic to fix, and $700 to remove the scratches. We just had the oil changed and had the belts replaced. Everything else checked out. I just have to say that this group is great. I followed the instructions on how to program the new key, and it worked great. Saved me $40 bucks at Ralley Motors in Glen Cove, NY which is probably the most expensive place on the planet. Thanks for all the great suggestions!
