  1. Definitely not the exhaust. It sounds like the knocking you get with low grade fuel.
  2. 1998 Sc400 w/90k miles. I've had this noise since I got the car with 65K miles. When the car is accelerated under load and you then ease off the throttle then moderately throttle up again there a gurgling/rattling engine noise as if low octane fuel is used. Only happens after agreessive acceration is let off and the throuttle is slightly reapplied to tack along. I always use 92. Changed plugs and did full 60k service on car when I got it. Never went away. Mileage is good, engine codes check good. I'm having the timing belt done so while they are in there what should they look for? Only other symptom the car's idle in drive seem just a little low. Any thoughts ideas appreciated.
  3. A businessperson with integrity. He knows the tires are poor so he won't sell them. They do still exist. More than likely your guy was selling fear to up sell you. I have Kumho ASX's on my SC400 now for 20K miles. Guess what they are very good tires. Except in snow over ~3 inches. I'm rather particular about tires. But after years in sales and marketing I understand a few points about human preception and price points. I've driven 80's vintage bikes over 120 mph, cars +170mph and aircraft supersonic, I understand the varibles of perfomance. Had topline Michelins and Brigestones and Goodyears on the car before. Nothing SIGNIFICANT in the cars performance between each brand except for the lack of flats relative to the $250 Michelins and Goodyears wearing out quickly (~20K). So I cheaped out this time. I'm VERY happy I did. These tires can't be beat for the price. Everyone is discussing shades of grey in performance. What about real life significant improvements. Most people can't notice a quantitative difference of anything greater than 10-15% change. Most people compare the feel of tires to the prior worn out set. Most people are conditioned that higher price must mean its always better. These tires deliver what they promise. If you need to pay and additional $170 per tire for a 5% increase performance that you'll likely never notice, more power to the tire companies marketing teams.
  4. Swapped the tranny mount with new. No more vibration/noise issues! The old one still looked good even after it was removed. Seems the tolerances are very tight. Cost about $55 and less than 20 min.
  5. Problem: Until the engine warms up fully I have a slight whine/whirring noise and minor vibration at center console that can be felt thru the parking brake handle. Sounds like some kind of worn bearing. However it only occurs when stopped and when in drive. In Park or Neutral and stopped, no noise. Goes away under acceration. Once car is warmed up no more noise. This second issue may not be related and from posts may just be the nature of the beast. Minor delay in the initial shift out of first when cold. After shifting once or twice out of first it shifts normally, warmed up or not. Also noticed a very slight ticking noise from passenger side lower dash area when slowing to a stop. This almost sounds like a leaf fluttering in a vent. 1998 Sc400 86k miles. Last ATF Type IV change ~15k miles ago. Fluid level and color check OK. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!
