  1. I have a 2008 ES350 that I bought new in May of 2008. I've never kept a car that long. It has 154,000 on it and looks and runs like new except......... the timing chain cover leak. It became evident at 140,000 miles. Interestingly, I've never had to add oil due to the leak. I placed a piece of cardboard underneath and saw the spots but never saw a drop on the dipstick. A friend who builds high horsepower engines called it a nuisance leak. For the last 5 years I've driven it about 3,000 miles a year at most due to my wife's difficulty in getting in and out of it. We're both elderly so it sits in the garage. I like the car so I'll probably keep it.
  2. Sounds like my '08 ES350. It sounded like that when new. Lexus said it was piston slap. Never believed them. It was I believe a problem with a string of engine builds that was eventually fixed. None of the loaners Lexus provided me with made the noise. For whatever it's worth, my ES has 141K on it now and runs well but recently developed a timing cover leak that's a major repair. Might expect that on an old Chrysler but not on a Lexus. Pretty disappointed with them.
  3. 2008 ES350 that looks like new, everything seems to be in good shape, but it sprang a leak in the timing cover. It has 141000 miles. I'm wondering whether to fix it, $2500 to $3500, and keep it or just bite the bullet and dump it. What's next? I thought I'd see 200K out of this car.
  4. I have an '08 ES350 with 96000 on it. The rotors are original and so are the pads. The last time it was serviced (92K miles) I was told that the pads still have 50% left. Unbelievable! Never experienced this before.
