  1. Thats cool I got the brembo cross-drilled rotors and they are sweet. I have also upgraded the suspension with the TRD strut brace, sway front and rear, and lower member brace. I would highly recommend doing this. It is no longer floaty feeling at all. Feels much more precise and hardly any body roll around corners. Plus its not that expensive to do, I got most of the parts on ebay. Now I really want to get some cool looking 19's deep dish style to make it look more aggressive. Any good suggestions? I don't want it all blinged out looking, i am looking for more of a racing aggressive look.
  2. I actually just put a optima red top battery in just a week ago in my 98 400 , yes the batter needs to be flipped around but you can't even tell anyways... Got it at autozone right down the street . The GS 400 OEM battery is supposed to be rated at like 585 CCA , and the red top has 800 CCA . THIS DOES NOT HURT YOUR CAR if you do this. In fact it makes it take more of a load off of your alternator , making it more effiecient I would think. It definitely seems to crank up immediatley, the lights seems brighter and more resilient. Maybe this is because it is getting a better power source. However, one modification I had to do to get the battery cables to reach the battery was to raise the battery up about 3/4 inch, so that the cables could sit on the post completely. I did this by placing 2 wood shims on the front and back of the battery underneath it. You can get a whole pack of them at home depot or lowes for like 2 dollars. Since the shims are like an elongated triangle , you want to put 2 of them on top of each other with the fat ends in opposing directions so that it will be a flat , level surface. Then you put 2 of them in the bottom of the battery box toward the windshield, and two of them in the box closest to the front of the car. You sit the battery inside, install cables. Then you tighten the bar down that goes across the top of the battery. If there is any play between the bar and the battery, you can put one of the plastic pieces that comes with the battery on the top of the battery on the side right underneath the bar and this will make it nice and snug no movement. The plastic pieces that come with the battery are universal mounts for like GM and Ford cars, and are meant to put on the bottom of the battery to hold it down. They work great when you put them on top under the bar to make it snug as well ! I only used one of the bars though and it was towards the bumper. I went with the red top because it was cheaper than the yellow one, and because I have no yellow under the hood to match it. There is some red on the trd strut bar, and Rockford fosgate fuses , so the red on the battery ties it all together a little nicer.
  3. Thats great glad you like the Borla exhaust, I do too... Is this the first step for you for modifying your car? (Is this the only thing you have done so far?)
  4. I have the TRD strut brace, so I don't think that it will work with the EDFC right? Don't you have to have the RMM strut so there is more clearance?
  5. Hey , I've had the Borla exhaust for about 4 years now. At first when you put it in the difference isn't that noticeable. However, I would recommend a good air intake to allow the engine to breathe easier. The stock intake is way too restrictive. When you do this you will be able to get air into the engine alot easier, and you will be able to get it out alot easier with the Borla exhaust. You will notice the sound difference when you do this. My car kinda sounds like a corvette, real deep and throaty. It gets loudest when you open it up under full throttle and the vvti kicks in. Exhaust and intake together I think is good for about 20 horses.
  6. I recommend the Falken Ziek 512 's . Very quiet tire , awesome traction.
  7. I bought the car used with 50k on it , so unless they got it changed before that !
  8. My 1998 GS 400 has 100k miles on it. I was concerned about some of the belts getting too worn so I put a new serpentine belt on it (30 bucks at autozone). But mostly I was concerned about the timing belt because you cannot see it, so I decided to have it replaced as well as the water pump. One of my friends offered to do it so he replaced them. I asked him to save the timing belt so I could look at it and when I looked at it , it looked almost brand new, with no visible cracks on the tread. The only cracks on it were microscopic on the outside of the band, and the only way you could see them is if you folded the belt together and looked at it under some light. I was really surprised that this belt did not have more wear for having a 100k miles on it. I mean I probably could have gone another 100k with no probs! But having peace of mind is more important to me so I am glad I did it, but at the same time I think man I really didn't need that done and I could have saved some money. However, I do believe maintenance is very important since I plan on keeping my car for several more years, and I like to take care of it you know?
  9. I agree with Lexusfreak on the tire selection. I have had Michelin pilots , Bridgestone potenza pole positions, and dunlops. The ones I was most diappointed in was the bridgestones. Those were like 180 each and they did have unbelievable traction, but they wore out so damn quick and were loud and caused a harsh ride. I decided to go with Falken 512's this time and they were only like 90 each, and they are so QUIET ! Can't even hear them at all, plus great traction. Plus the tread design looks really sweet when you are looking at the car from the rear. The ride quality is that much better seriously. The guy from NTB tried to talk me out of them, but I didn't listen. (he wanted to sell a more expensive tire) Glad I didn't listen! Research them on tirerack.com , and compare the characteristics of the tire, (treadwear, temperature, traction, speed rating) , and compare this all the other tires on there and look at the cost. Best bang for the buck without a doubt. Oh one more thing. When you get new tires put on, make sure that they put new valve stems on your tire. They used my old ones on my new tires and within the next 3 days I had 2 flats. One on the highway, and one in my garage. I was mad! I took it back and they said they accidentally used to old valve stems and that was causing it to leak. I shredded one of the tires on the highway (ruined the sidewall) and they replaced it, so they had to eat one of those tires for that mistake.
  10. I just installed the TRD Front Strut Brace last night. Initially when I went to put it on , it appeared as though it would not fit at all, the holes did not line up. I had to jack up the car on BOTH sides to get that bad boy on. When you jack it up, the bolts start to go vertical and then they start to drop. This made it alot easier to get it on. So when you jack it up place the bar on top to match the holes, then s l o w l y start to lower the jack till the bolts go through the holes. When they go through the holes, immediately put the nuts on and hand tighten it continually until the car is all the way on the ground. Then get a torque wrench and torque down each bolt to about 30 pounds. Man this strut bar is a tight !Removed! fit ! I thought at first it might not work, but it is that tight of a fit. The car drives completely different now. No more nose dives on corners, and it feels like the front end of the car is so much tighter and precise so I highly recommend this strut bar if you do not have one. I also purchased the TRD sway bars front and rear which will be installed this weekend, as well as the rear strut brace which is supposed to be delivered today. Stiffening up the suspension is a number one priority for my GS 400 . From the factory it just has way to much body roll. Just by installing the front strut brace I could already tell a HUGE difference and it was only 152 bucks from sewell lexus in Dallas. Intake and exhaust also makes a pretty big difference as well, Weapon R intake and Borla exhaust . The engine sounds so much more throaty and responsive. Almost sounds like a corvette! I am also interested in getting a set of coilovers. The biggest problem here is figuring out what application of coils would work best for the money. Have any of you guys heard which is the best set for the money? I have looked at Tanabe sustec, Tein flex, tein cs, Bilstein, Intrax , etc. I wanted to be able to adjust the ride heighth as well as the dampening preferably with a dial in straight on the coil so it would be easier to adjust. If you guys have any input on coilovers that would be cool .
  11. I'm interested email me at mdwtexas@comcast.net .
  12. I only use mobil 1 5w30 in my Gs 400 . Works like a charm. I put 280k miles on my chevrolet beretta running mobil 1 . Can only imagine what kind of mileage I can get on my GS with Mobil 1 . Best oil out there bar none ! :D
  13. 135 mph top speed? It goes way faster than that. I got my needle buried at 160 on the Kansas turnpike for a couple of minutes and still had another 1000 rpm to go until redline. Man I wish we knew of a way to take out the speed limiter !!!
  14. Yeah man I got the K40 superwideband with sensors on the front and rear bumper and it is totally awesome. It has like a 2-3 mile range, great on the highways. It does pickup alot of microwaves in the city though, and wal-marts too. I always tell everybody when they ask "what is that beeping noise?" I say, oh that's my wal-mart detector, see theres one right over there!
  15. Hmmm ... thats a really long time. Well I figure what the hell , since hes already going to be working under there he will probably give me a really really goood deal on it anyways, and I plan to drive my car for while since I like it so much. I can't wait to start getting some modifications (mostly bolt on) that will push it even faster. I love the borla exhaust that's on there (give a little deep growl) . But I'm thinking about getting adjustable coilovers really soon. I want to stiffen the supension some and lower it about an inch. As well as a strut brace for front and rear to tighten the chassis roll. Have any of you guys done any of these things? One of my favorite things about the car is that you get 80% of the torque at 1800 rpm. It's makes cruising around town at stop lights and what not an unbelievable ease as you can pass everyone without barely hitting the gas. Happy New Year!!!
  16. Hey guys I am going to have a buddy of mine replace the timing belt in my GS 400 this week. He has his own shop and said he would do it for 300 bucks! Thats not too bad considering Park Place wants 900 ! I'm almost at 100k , and it has never been done, so I know I need to do it ASAP . Anyways I will let you guys know how it goes. I already did the serpentine belt myself and it was a piece of cake.
  17. Hi I have 98 Gs 400 , black, tan, with borla exhaust. Super awesome car, best car I have ever owned. Only thing ever had to replace was the throttle body. I only run mobil 1 oil in it, and it has 96k on it. I also have a sony es mobile head unit with infinitys all the way around, 2 rockford amps , and a infinity 10 inch sub that hits pretty hard. I also have k40 radar with front and rear bumper sensors.
