  1. k. get the green stuff. at least it will help reduce excess dust. I never got a chance to mention this, but you could ask Stillen. They've made something that looks similar to stock brakes and are cross drilled and slotted. See if they can offer you a workable number.
  2. Actually, lexlugar SC is first Gen. Mine apparently is a second gen. The Taillights on mine is slightly different from the first gen, followed by the 97 SC's with the Crome on it--making it the 3rd Gen US. I really don't know why some people make that distinctions since not much has changed from the first. I agree with you. I'm not particularly a big fan of the new SC, and I am definitely dissapointed with only one engine option.
  3. Your Display isn't busted or malfunctioning. There are a lot people who've experienced that problem including me. It's the way cold cathode works. It requires time to warm up, before it lights up. If you garage your car, it may stop, but I can't definitely say.
  4. The Car Manufacturer doesn't get the road hazard warranty somebody like Sears or Merchant Tire would have, and since your rim is bent, you're SOL. Sorry. If you have a full size tire as your spare, I would suggest using that tire as your full time wheel, and get a 16 or 17" rim from a junk yard LS430. That would work. You could put in a request here and see what kind of a price they come up with. http://www.autosalvageyards.com/leftrequest.htm http://www.uneedapart.com/used-lexus-parts.html You could also ask a body shop or dealer for where they dump wrecked Lexus cars.

SW03ES: I need 25 signatures of current residence to show that there is a demand for the plate. Once I have those, I can contact State and get the approval process started. Thanks
  6. Brembo's look expensive, but consider them to be better braking for the money. You'll probably spend $2500 up-front, but in the long run the difference can be seen. Besides a big brake upgrade is what you'll need for quicker braking and longer lasting, something the Toyota Brakes will not give you. They're designed to wear out quicker, hence the reason why Supras and skylines don't have stock brake packages. Consider it since you're driving aggressively and cost is a factor in your decision-making. If price is a major factor consider:--Wilwood The Wilwood Front package is available for the 90-94 LS400. Check with a company called Precision Braking in Portland, OR. They've made a front brake kit for my car. Let them know that one of their clients in Maryland who requested for a complete brake kit referred you there. For the Front kit, they'll charge you $1000 or less+ $30 S/h, and they are cross-drilled/slotted, since they billed me $1000 for the research time. http://www.precisionbrakescompany.com/

you still live in Maryland, right? Similar to Volunteer Firedepartment tags, county police, Penn State and so on. http://marylandmva.com/VehicleServ/Special...ry.asp?sku=amat http://marylandmva.com/VehicleServ/Special...u=mil&TagId=621
  8. I guess. I wouldn't. Any reason why the First Gen is important to you?
  9. I wouldn' t recommend driving aggressively with the LS. It sucks. If you're in the UK, I would recommend getting the front Brembo Brake package. They shouldn't be on back order like the US. If you're in the US, Stillen has a non-big Brake system available for the LS. Get those. They are cross-drilled and slotted and would fit the LS. Since you mentioned that your brakes are wearing out rather quickly, it might be the brakes themselves that need to be replaced. I'm experiencing the same with my LS with the front right wheel. It keeps reducing the air in that tire too. If you take your wheel off, see if the rotors are moving with the least amount of resistance. if they don't something is wrong. Good time for an upgrade. I'm asked a aftermarket company to make a kit for my LS. They're stuck on the rear brakes, being such a difficult combination. Good luck in your investigation. :)
  10. AWJ: You're welcomed to take a look at mine. One owner with highway mileage. The only thing that was wrong with the car was a minor dent and a few scratches on the bumpers and side panel. $200-500 worth of work professionally. That and the Trunk lid issue that AWJ and I wrote about on another post. Even the Lexus dealer was saying this is a good buy for the price I paying. And just to further my point, the car passed Maryland State inspection with flying colours. Maryland is one of those states where they will bill you $100 for State Inspection and you won't have to do it again, and it's through. Zeta: So what if it's a SC400 with lower mileage than mine. Look at the stats below. from Kelly Blue Book. Blue Book Private Party Report Maryland • March 25, 2003 1992 Lexus SC 400 Sport Coupe 2D Engine: V8 4.0 Liter Trans: 4-Spd Auto Overdrive Drive: Rear Wheel Drive Mileage: 128,000 Equipment Auto Climate Control Power Steering Power Windows Power Door Locks Telescoping Wheel Cruise Control AM/FM Stereo Cassette Anti-Lock Braking Leather Dual Power Seats Moon Roof Alloy Wheels Consumer Rated Condition: Excellent This is the best condition of the car, and I know there's always something wrong. "Excellent" condition means that the vehicle looks great, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning. It should pass a smog inspection. The engine compartment should be clean, with no fluid leaks. The paint is glossy and the body and interior are free of any wear or visible defects. There is no rust. The tires are the proper size and match and are new or nearly new. A clean title history is assumed. This is an exceptional vehicle. Private Party Value $7,125 Private Party value represents what you might expect to pay for a used car when purchasing from a private party. It may also represent the value you might expect to receive when selling your own used car to another private party. ---Private Party Value is always higher. http://kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.ur?kbb.MD;7...400&12;LE;A4&&& 1992 Lexus SC 400 Sport Coupe 2D Engine: V8 4.0 Liter Trans: 4-Spd Auto Overdrive Drive: Rear Wheel Drive Mileage: 128,000 Equipment Auto Climate Control Power Steering Power Windows Power Door Locks Telescoping Wheel Cruise Control AM/FM Stereo Cassette Anti-Lock Braking Leather Dual Power Seats Moon Roof Alloy Wheels Consumer Rated Condition: Good "Good" condition means that the vehicle is free of any major defects. The paint, body and interior have only minor (if any) blemishes, and there are no major mechanical problems. In states where rust is a problem, this should be very minimal, and a deduction should be made to correct it. The tires match and have substantial tread wear left. A clean title history is assumed. A "good" vehicle will need some reconditioning to be sold at retail; however major reconditioning should be deducted from the value. Most recent model cars owned by consumers fall into this category. Private Party Value $6,500 Private Party value represents what you might expect to pay for a used car when purchasing from a private party. It may also represent the value you might expect to receive when selling your own used car to another private party. For the Nakamichi, I would have added $400 max even if it's a rebuilt or $600 if it's brand new. I hate to pick on you guys, Zeta and AWJ, but you're wrong in this case. I waited 1.5yrs and didn't follow through with 8- Sc300's and 400's because it would cost me more money in the long run. Patience does payoff. Lexlugar: Congratulations on the car. I was wondering if there were any special equipment added to justify the extra cost? Something like aftermarket performance upgrades or even a very nice aftermarket stereo.. If you have those added then it might be worth $9500, but since you've already bought the car, it's too late to negotiate with your best poker face. I agree with AWJ that you didn't get ripped off badly, but you could have done better, in my opinion.

I'm surprised the dealer wasn't able to find the part. If you haven't found the parts yet, I'll try to get some research done for you. SW03ES: I wanted to start a LOC plate for Maryland. You interested?
  12. yeah, I would recommend the green stuff. Are you driving your LS agressively or are they just wearing out very quickly?
  13. you paid $9k for a 92! Ouch. :( I paid $6200 for my 95 SC300 with a 165k on it. Even with the mileage and model difference, I got a good deal. If you still haven't paid for it. I would suggest waiting for a better deal, and expanding your search are to 300miles.
  14. :)
  15. Description "Shocks vs. Struts – What is the difference? Shocks and struts serve the same basic purpose – to lessen the amount of bounce in your tire and therefore stabilize your vehicle. Because struts are more important to the overall operation of the vehicle, they tend to be more costly." http://209.115.190.42/mech/shocks.htm 08:35 (3/19/2003). Overall, a shock is only part of a strut. there is an upper piece that makes up a Strut Tower. In some cars the Struts need to be replaced instead of the shock because of the way they built the suspension.
  16. Expect to pay a lot. There aren't too many neg. tips we I can give you regarding a new car, but I would definitely recommend buying the car from a city where there isn't much competation like a small town dealer. Chances are the price will be cheaper already. If you were on the North East Corridor, I would have recommended a dealer, but you're not. To cut back on cost, I would also recommend not getting the fancy Mark Levinson stereo since that's probably the 10k option. Most common neg tip. Trade in. If you have one, make them buy it for more. Do a Kbb.com trade-in and private sale comparison. You may find out that you can sell your car for more if you sell it yourself. And last, come into the nego. table with a number in mind, and don't budge. Never smile or agree to anything, unless you know for sure that's what you want, and be prepared to walk out the door. If they don't stop you from walking out, the dealer isn't worth dealing with. ENJOY :) Personally, I wouldn't mind getting an Infiniti G35 Coupe. That's nice to me.
  17. It looks like a shock instead of a strut?
  18. I assume you're talking about the Clock and Temp guage. If that's the case, there's another post in the LS400 Category marked Clock/climate. I've posted a company's name where you can get the part rebuilt cheaper than what the dealer will charge.Check it out.
  19. Try Napa or Pepboys if you're in the US. They should have all the necessary tools for the job.
  20. Take it to the Lexus Dealer or show it to a very good mechanic, and have the car throughly checked out. You definitely want to lookout for any kind of leaks. Body Damage can be checked out by you, by looking at any deformations, paint pealing and blemishes and so on. Oh yah, the first reaction is usually the best one, and finally, BARGAIN, BARGAIN, BARGAIN. Happy buying
  21. I don't know about the Canadian Facility or the ones in Europe. I don't remember seeing it in the Kentucky Plant, but it has been a while. :) By the way, where in Maryland are you?
  22. sorry I never got to you sooner. The Webaddress to Steve Millen Sports Car is www.stillen.com. That's one option. Since you have a 91 that shares the same design as the 94s, chances are you could go with the same lowering springs as I have on my LS. H&R Springs, the ones that are made in Germany. There's always the Japanese site you could visit. If you could find the nearest TOM's Dealer, you could get those Springs too. You might want to make sure your computer can read Japanese. http://www.tomsracing.co.jp/index_.html http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp TOM'S has made modifications to the LS400 and the Celsiors. Take a look at some of the pictures and it should give you a better idea on what you can accomplish. On another note, how come you're not checking out the LexusOwnersClub UK version. They might have some more info that you might find interesting. I hope this helps to some degree.
  23. personally, I won't put spacer on my LS. Afterall it's a luxury car not a Sports car. From what I know, Spacers tend to move the Wheels outward. It could be good for your car, but lookwise-bad. SW03ES, I quite sure Toyota doesn't make their own brand of Wheels. Where would they make them? It won't be in the Japanese Facility. Last time I checked there wasn't any space there.
  24. It used to be in LS400 category. I remember replying to it once long ago. AWJ: I don't think there's a LS300. It sounds like something Hyndai may come up with. Matt: On another note. I wanted to start a license plate design for the LexusOwnersClub.com. Do you or any of the Admins have a design for the logo in mind? Chances are a colour logo will need to be faxed or emailed to Maryland Authorities so that they can put it on the plate. PM me with what can be done to make this possible.
  25. scl789: You never did send me those part numbers. WIthout them, I can't help you. Email or PM me with the list.
